  1. Read this. Fernando1's modded AHCI drivers should work, though.
  2. nLiteRx (mayber read "nLite Redux"...) or nLite℞ (see ℞).
  3. No. None at all.
  4. Sergio Endrigo - Lontano dagli occhi
  5. Then the single disk dies and everything goes puff! Of course, if one's single 4TB disk is in truth a 4TB RAID 6 SSD array, then it's different... but is the cost worth it?
  6. Regretably, the day they eventually get hardware good enough for 7, it'll only be available as an used OS, if at all... so they'll be stuck with "8.11 Update 3 SR8 SP5" or whatever absurd name MS'll have come up with, by then.
  7. And KB951126 (from Apr 03, 2008) has the latest HAL files, v. 5.1.2600.5574...
  8. Yes. Update to MSI 4.5, then try and see whether you can update MSE without errors or not, and post back what happened, OK?
  9. Yes. Here: <link>.
  10. Sure. But, now that you've mentioned it, I think I should remark that 0xEB is an interesting animal: it's a short jump (the intimates call it "JMPS") and it transfers execution unconditionally to a position denoted by it's argument, which is a signed byte, and which is counted starting immediately after it (and, thus, the 1st 0x90 is position "0")... so that on XP and before, that's 18 bytes starting from the 1st 0x90 and, on Vista, that becomes 34 bytes (which is actually true). Hence, it's interesting to note that the "never executed instruction" remains vallid! I cannot help but wonder: isn't there really really any way the execution can ever get there? If so, why carefully correct it to keep it valid?
  11. Those 128 GB and 256 GB pendrives at such incredible low prices are either scams (most probably) or made from worse than product-line-reject parts (much less probable) and, as such, totally unreliable. OTOH, SanDisk Cruzer Blade 8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive for ca. US$5 seems about right.
  12. Give the System File Checker a try, it may be able to fix it. Here's how.
  13. If I may hazzard a guess, it's a PASCAL-like Unicode string, initiated by a little-endian word counter "07 00" (meaning) 0x07, with no terminator... so we have 0x07 BOOTMGR, instead of 0x05 NTLDR !!!
  14. With all due respect, your punctuation got me confused... Is that what you meant?
  15. From the start, it sure an interesting collaboration, which I've enjoyed very much. But, when it comes to graphics, make no mistake, I may have even helped, but Larry is the one and only!
  16. A new jre wasn't released yet?
  17. Welcome to MSFN!
  18. IE6 files v. 6.0.2900.5512 or higher are sp3... the most recent are marked (xpsp_sp3_qfe.xxxxxx-xxxx) Of course XP SP3 included an update for IE6, but it wasn't advertised as such in so many words. BTW, I think the very last update for IE6 SP1 came out on Feb 2013 MS security ISO update package. A reliable guide is the version of SHDOCVW.DLL, as sumarized in this table (please scroll down, it's the Builds table that's relevant...).
  19. Yes. But WEPOS was released on 5/24/2005, and came with IE6... And that means extended support until 7/14/2015, just like for Windows Server 2003. Well, in any case IE6 SP3. Updates for IE6 SP1 stopped some time ago.
  20. It goes without saying that, even in situations where including a 9x boot into the multiboot setup is not feasible, it's generally possible to include an MS-DOS 7.10 boot (to bare metal) in almost any multiboot setup (which uses to be my 4th boot option), and I do, of course, recommend it! Changing subjects, since you're set on assembling a new machine, consider buying, say, a couple of 512-byte sectored SATA HDDs, while they're still available: Previous Spec-Sheets for the same HDDs WD Caviar Black (512 or AF) 2011-13.7z
  21. I sure know what you're talking about. Granted, sometimes I do write tl;dr replies. But, in any case, nowadays, whenever it dawns on me the one I'm posting to isn't able to read beyond the second line, I give up helping him/her as politely as possible, as fast as I can.
  22. I don't think so... An upgrade to an OEM license should be itself OEM, and, as such, not transferable. And, nowadays, it's probably possible to acquire an FPP 7 Ultimate with both x86 and x64 discs inside (to be used in a either/or basis, of course) for a very good price, since it's not anymore the latest Windows.
