Yes, you are right, javascript engine at the 76 level. The goal is 78-79 level, left not so much to do.4 points

then you may try mypal68.13, it seems to work. (just to remind that mypal68 can cause BSoD on some systems, better save your works before testing it!)3 points

yeah, someone may report this to upstream via repo's issue tracker or their forum. but who can take up this job? (I can't as my position stands(or say, being standed)) and my advice: if you're going to report this to upstream, better register with different handle name than here's, and capture different screenshot which is not disclosed here, if you have newer OS environment, you may test with official PM32.1 to see if whatsapp is working on official build or not. and report to them if it doesn't. and FYI: mypal68.13 works (with general.useragent.override.web.whatsapp.com="Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:78.9) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.9" (without quotes) in about:config)3 points

About Cauldronfare fail with "browser outdated" error 1. It does not like 'firefox68' so just remove it form the UA string general.useragent.override;Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Mypal/68.13.0 works But this is not good because affects all web may break other sites for sure. I put site specific override but it does not works, will to think why, then to change the UA string by other means like extensions. 2. set network.http.sendOriginHeader;1 in about:config thanks to @roytam1 thanks and to hope2 points

MyPal68 requires a "modern" CPU (SSE2 able or beter IIRC), Plus it will only run stable if you have Windows XP SP3 In theory it should not require you to install Visual Studio 2017 runtime because it already contains all dlls in its directory. So in short if you got Windows XP SP3 + Pentium4 or later it *should* run. then again I just say *should*2 points

As sad as it is to see, I'm certain there will come a day where 7 will also no longer be able to suit my needs. It will be unfortunate, but I will most likely move to a Linux-based OS such as Mint and theme it to replicate the look and feel of XP/7. Themes and a bit of fiddling with WINE can make Linux more comfortable. I think this would be a great idea for anyone uncomfortable with W10 or W11, but are unfamiliar with navigating Linux. (Although some people have managed to get Steam working for XP beyond 2019, that too eventually broke over time. Some things just don't last forever.) Doesn't mean I wouldn't still use 7 or XP from time to time, though. I'll always have either one on a drive on-hand. There's hundreds of legacy and offline applications that are too useful to die off. @cmccaff1 mentioned this.2 points

Although I am actually not a friend of Google, I love to do many things by using a tablet. Apple is no choice to me for many reasons , so I am an Android user for many years. Searching the internet, researching and reading books or articles is the main intended purpose of my tablet. Many of my posts are written under Android and its most recent browsers. It's very comfortable and easy. As a respite from the Chrome or Chromium world, I then enjoy surfing with my UXP browsers under Windows XP.2 points

Finally, after 1 year, Windows Update V4 now works, but not the Windows Update Catalog. It's still buggy. But @WinFX did a very nice job!2 points

After lots of testing with newer OSes, I feel better about making the leap to 7+ in the future. For now, I am happily sticking with XP. Microsoft truly outdid themselves with this OS, in all its various flavors and evolutions. Compatible with lots of vintage and modern hardware and software, lightweight and fast, with rock-solid stability. I find that XP is still perfectly fine for offline use...there are tons of programs that will keep it useful forever. The only real question mark going forward is web browsing...of course, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for whatever the future holds. One thing I will say with regards to web browsing is that if you can make good use of user agent spoofing/switching, you can get a lot of mileage out of 360 and other XP-compatible browsers to this day. The mobile versions of most sites, where applicable, still seem to work fine in old browsers and should render with no major graphical bugs. Of course this doesn't work with all sites, but as much of the web is mobile-optimized now, it is a lifeline for XP-compatible browsers as more desktop-optimized sites continue to be redesigned/updated to take advantage of whatever the latest JavaScript standards are.2 points

I believe what this means is that improvements were made to the JavaScript core compared to the 'stable' Mypal68. If I was reading what Feodor wrote correctly, 68.13 improves it to Firefox 76 standards, which seems to mean improved nullish coalescing & optional chaining implementations along with other important back-end upgrades. Of course, I could be completely wrong on this one, but that's what I got out of it.2 points

I learned the speed-up-then-coast back when "hypermiling" was a big thing. One of my "favorite" things to do is see a RED LIGHT over half a mile up the road and take my foot off the gas and coast the entire half mile.1 point

To be clear, what you have called "Win2k-basic-gray" is the base window styling of an inactive window. When the window is active the title bar appears as a blue gradient by default. The appearance of these Title Bar stylings are not unique to Windows 2000. Since, I believe, an edition Windows 98, Microsoft started using Title Bars with a blue gradient styling by default. The exact default gradients, as seen in Windows 2000 family operating systems, and I believe also Windows Millennium Edition, became used and thereafter used. As of Windows XP RTM, the operating system provided for its own skinning of windows (the skins are known as Visual Styles) as part of the Themes system service. As of Windows 8, disabling the system skinning is still possible, but not normally (disabling the Themes service no longer would work) and it appears that the operating system was adjusted so that it does not normally happen; a user wanting to disable or opt not to use the visual styling would have to do quite a bit of much more complex work to achieve it (I do not recall exactly what). I have set my system (Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3) Display Properties to use "Windows Classic style" for "Windows and buttons" (see attached picture for reference). I see the Windows Classic style gray (with gradient) title bar whenever a window that is not set as active displays and so long as the there is no styling being provided by another source (such as by a software program). There can be only one window with a designation of active, so all other un-skinned (by the operating system) windows would have the gray title bar. I work with many windows and I see very many gray Title Bars while doing so. In the case of 360Chrome, I only encounter the regular, unskinned, title bar (gray (inactive) or blue (active)) when the application crashes, and usually when I interact with something in a window or elsewhere (for which case I think the operating system interacts with the Title Bars of the all open windows). Presumably, the display of the true window Title Bars happens because the skinning program or program that displays a non-standard, customized window (as is the case with 360Chrome) fails to maiming its skin functions or painting and then the title bar part of the window is otherwise interacted with by other process (such as the operating system; the rest of the window may still display as it was last painted prior to the crash). I am not sure where the "above" and "below" are referenced/quoted from and cannot provide a good answer to the question. Yes. For both active and inactive Title Bars, the default height is 18 pixels. The default windows border (shown when the window floats and is not maximized or minimized) size is 3 pixels, a white pixel between two gray pixels. The window boarder is rather interesting. When the boarder is set in the Advanced Appearance dialog box (both Inactive Window Boarder and Active Window Boarder both change together), the resulting boarder is the given amount plus some. When the boarder is left at the default size of 1, the resulting boarder is 3 pixels, one while pixel between two gray pixels. When the boarder size is set to 9, the resulting boarder size is 12 pixels, 10 gray pixels, extending from what is otherwise the window, followed by a white pixel, and then a gray pixel. I have not decreased or otherwise changed my Title Bar heights. Windows_Classic_Style_TIF.tif Display_Properties_Advanced_Appearance_TIF.tif1 point

In terms of compatibility between protection programs, I can confirm that Malwarebytes Premium v3.5.1 is not compatible with either Avast Premier 18.8 or Panda Dome 22.00.00. However, there should be no problems with Malwarebytes Free v3.5.1, as it does not have real-time protection.1 point

Well, the only drivers that will work will unlock your USB ports. You can download them from here. (these drivers were originally posted on msfn, but the download some download links are broken) Having USB it's great... you can use a cheap Wi-Fi dongle (not the latest gen, but older with B/G standards), USB storage etc. USB sound is supported, but you might get some stutter so you better go with a cheap PCI sound card or something like a Sound Blaster Live! which is also dirt-cheap... As MrMateczko said get on of those video PCI-E cards, I had problems with GoForce 7 series on different configurations (they not officially supported) so it's better stick 6 series or a PCI-E ATI...1 point

not github specified, but general git usage/concept. unfortunately this is how git works, and it could be more troublesome if in svn/cvs way. (for having a upstream-tracking branch and a dev/work branch for actual porting and merging in same repo)1 point

No drivers are available for the integrated GPU in either of those motherboards, use VBEMP or GeForce 6000/7000 series or Radeon X300/X500/X600/X1050/X700/X800/X850 PCI-E GPU, or a PCI GPU. Use PATCHMEM, user AHCI driver if you want to use a SATA HDD/SSD. Can also use IDE/PATA HDD which is the easiest option. Install 98SE with "SETUP /p i" switch to disable ACPI which causes issues. Use unofficial USB drivers for USB 2.0/Flash Drive support. No drivers available for the integrated HD Audio, use cheap USB Sound Card or PCI sound card. As for LAN, might try drivers from here: https://soggi.org/drivers/realtek.htm1 point

In terms of Protegent Antivirus, there is a review on Softpedia: https://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Protegent-Anti-Virus.shtml To be honest, I never heard of this program before, though. But it seems indeed to be XP-compatible and quite well known in India (and probably in other eastern countries). Anyway! Another option which has to be checked more deeply.1 point

That's why on browsers that allow me to build with both static and shared linking options, I like to do local shared builds, but public static builds. RetroZilla takes ~126 MiB RAM using Windows XP SP3 and Visual C++ 6.0 SP5 to build rzbrowser.exe with static libraries, but only ~83 MiB RAM to link gklayout.dll with shared libraries. Using Visual C++ 2003 bumped the RAM usage of rzbrowser.exe from ~126 MiB to ~178 MiB, but I don't believe I tested that compiler with shared libraries (~117 MiB would be my guess if I did). Building shared libraries of RetroZilla Browser will result in a bin directory size of ~20.5 MiB excluding MSVCRT.DLL. Building static libraries results in a bin directory size of ~18.5 MiB (I don't remember the exact bin size because I more commonly do shared builds instead of static builds, not to mention the differing build configurations I often use that will sway the bin directory size slightly).1 point

Thanks, yeah it had to be said, I'm tired of that trio of users saying hi to each other every day and then placing each other upvotes for their ego-boost, it looks very silly and spammy ! I used the Italian antivirus on my girfriend. She is my testing grounds. The amount of time it was used is very short. but I can say it's very light-weight, I know for sure because she runs on a very cheap Pentium CPU I bought for her on sale for 45 Euros in 2017. Pentium G(smth) - Kaby lake with fake cores. The one they use in office machines only.1 point

Hahaha; I personally refrain from logging into certain things on XP out of an abundance of caution, though I'm certain the majority of malware nowadays probably target more modern OS's and hardware. It's nice to hear that you still get use out of it, to the point that it's still a daily driver. XP and 7 are both my daily drivers (they get equally used almost every day, but if I had to pick one I'd have to go for 7). I must admit I didn't like 7 at first, but I've grown quite attached to it over the years. Also a lot of things that are no longer possible on XP are still possible on 7 (like installing and running Steam games, a must-have for playing with my nephew). It seems a lot of browsers are no longer supporting XP as of late. What browsers do you use? I am currently using a fork of Pale Moon called New Moon, but would appreciate hearing any other alternatives (besides MyPal, as while it's nice it does not fit my needs. Many webpages would not load properly on MyPal.)1 point

Dear @AstroSkipper, why did you ignore this question? I asked it to ensure if I understood correctly what you said or not. Please respond. Thank you. That comment was actually not meant for you. And a member here will probably decide for himself whether certain contributions require a statement or not. BTW, I never try to say anything, but I say it as clearly as possible, in most cases even crystal clearly. Regarding your reply I didn't say it doesn't matter to me generally, but in most cases it doesn't matter completely to the companies where I am or was a customer. And that has already been the case for a long time, unfortunately. It used to be different, but you can't understand that because of your age. Apart from that, this is all completely off-topic again. We want to move on here. Content that would serve the topic here would be much more important and appreciated.1 point

No problem here when shopping on Amazon in my browsers under Windows XP, and have been for years. Without @roytam1 this would probably no longer be possible. Windows XP is my main OS, and I do all there, as far as possible, of course.1 point

I have to say that I believe Windows XP as an OS will always be usable, even if in an emulated form. With the amount of legacy software out there, it will be worth something, whether if it's simply to run older games or programs for older hardware. In fact, I just installed it recently to a spare drive for use on older websites and for running DOS games. I use it for viewing sites like Bitview, FriendProject and RetroBook, all of which were made to emulate the 2006-2009 era of the internet. However, I wouldn't use it to login to more serious pages though (like Amazon for example).1 point
