  6. Agreed! ... Right ... But "10 years ago or more", besides me having a lot more hair on my head and less fat in my body , I was a lot less tech savvy than now; "touching" the registry, for whatever reason, was considered by me (after the advice given by many IT-literate people at the time) as a serious "faux pas"...

  7. Hi all and merry X-mass, I got bored and with the help of @Dixel and some amount of inspiration I sometimes get from @win32, I butchered the latest Opera 96 (110) to make it run on our beloved Vista ! This chinese browser Opera is based on the newest Chrome 110, which is officially supported only on Win 10 +. Also, I forced it to use its native hardware Skia engine 110. (which is now blocked on win 7 by default). For those who still drive their Sd.Kfz.8, Opera 95 and Chrome 109 are the last for win 7, so as of now, win 7 and the extended kernel for Vista are not able to run the 110 Chrome version. Please don't ask me about running it on WIn 7, I don't know (or won't tell) anything. In theory, it's possible for win 7 to run it. But only if you edit the browser code. (which is forbidden). Only Vista related questions. Thanks. Opera EULA says we can't edit their code, so I shall share my hacks/findings with @win32 and maybe he will be able to implement this in his next kernel release, so all of you could run it without the editing hacks.

  8. This is a continuation of my previous nVidia tutorial, but this time I decided to do it for folks with the extended kernel by @win32! As we know, the last officially supported driver was from the early May of 2016. This one is from 2017 ! Some may say it's a miracle , you betcha ! This driver was tested and confirmed fully working on 600, 700, 900 and 1000 series. Except the cheapest GT1030. You need the ex-kernel installed, I tested on a clean Vista with the updates up to 03.2019.+ the kernel. It's not allowed to share modded copyright protected material here, hence the new topic with the precise instructions follows. Tools you need :Driver Signature Enforcement Override, Universal Extractor and any HEX editor you like. Go and grab here: https://www.softpedia.com/get/Compression-tools/Universal-Extractor-Bioruebe.shtml Download here, here it is. 9. The U.S. federal government banned the use of Kaspersky software. By Mark Hachman, Senior Editor, PCWorld MAR 28, 2022 9:59 AM PDT Antimalware provider Kaspersky Lab has been blacklisted by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, adding its name alongside Huawei and ZTE as companies that are deemed a threat to national security. The FCC maintains a list of companies which are “deemed to pose an unacceptable risk to national security or the security and safety of United States persons,” and added Kaspersky to the list on Friday. Officially, the list now includes China Mobile International USA Inc., China Telecom (Americas) Corp, and AO Kaspersky Labs, as well as their subsidiaries. FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr said in a statement that adding those companies to the list “will help secure our networks from threats posed by Chinese and Russian state backed entities.” If a company is on the restricted list, it can’t receive federal subsidies, Bloomberg reported. The U.S. federal government banned the use of Kaspersky software in federal information systems in 2017 because of concerns about Kaspersky’s links to the Russian government. Individual users may continue to use products blacklisted by the FCC if they choose to do so, however. Kaspersky does not appear in PCWorld’s list of the best antivirus programs for your PC but does appear in the current list of PCWorld’s best free antivirus programs for Windows. If you try to install Kaspersky’s free tools, Windows Defender may flag Kaspersky as dangerous. We encountered the issue in our testing, though it wasn’t clear why the issues occurred. He has formerly written for PCMag, BYTE, Slashdot, eWEEK, and ReadWrite. https://www.pcworld.com/article/626854/kaspersky-blacklisted-as-a-risk-to-u-s-national-security.html

  10. OT: Today, it has come to my attention (quite by accident, TBH ) that an Eclipse forums member has appropriated my MSFN forums "username" (VistaLover): https://board.eclipse.cx/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=239 Until one specifically visits that member's profile page, it isn't clear/evident (by simply reading posts of him[?]) that "I" have no affiliation whatsoever with that member there; of course, I don't claim any copyright over my MSFN username , just thought I'd make it crystal clear to those MSFN members happening to have an account at Eclipse (some sharing the exact screen name between the two) that I am not that member ... Apologies for the OT, hope you all have a great New Year...

  12. I would not use either on Vista. I would use (and do use) v94 forks for anything I run with Vista or higher. I have no need for anything higher than v94. And there is no such thing as "future proof" - we can only find what works for us "today" and we have to decide for ourselves if we want to be a dog chasing its tail with constant updates that gain us nothing or if we are content with running "old" and not having to deal with the hassle and nuisance of constantly upgrading.

  13. Dad Looking Forward To The Peace And Quiet Of Work After The Holidays LIFE·Jan 2, 2023 · BabylonBee.com SAN DIEGO, CA — With the last hours of the Christmas and New Year's seasons ticking away, a local man found himself looking forward to the coming peace and quiet he will experience when returning to work after the holiday break. "It will be so wonderful to go back to the seemingly endless, daily grind of my job after this period of noise and chaos," said Lloyd Braun as his children ran screaming in circles around him. "It's important to have a break from celebrating and weathering daily hurricanes in the living room." Braun had initially fallen into the annual trap of looking forward to the Thanksgiving-Christmas-New Year's holiday season, thinking it would be a wonderful time of relaxation and offer an opportunity to recharge his batteries at the end of the year. Unbeknownst to him, his wife had been looking forward to his time off from work, taking opportunities each day to "get some stuff done" while he was available to stay with the kids. Before long, Braun found himself longing for the stress of his job. "I really find myself missing the endless meetings, frustrations with coworkers, and unreasonable expectations I deal with at work," he said. At publishing time, Braun was excitedly packing up his briefcase, laying out his outfit for his first day back at work, eagerly looking at his upcoming work calendar, and dreaming of the time he would have to spend sitting in his car in heavy traffic during his morning and evening commutes to and from the office. 16. If I ever drink anything alcoholic these days, it's a small glass of white wine per year, only for new year time really. I was told in the past in one social setting I should drink a bit to ease up, apparently I appear real tense in those. That time I just said I'm not much for alcohol. There was one other time before that when I did opt to drink some beer with the guys I was with at some bar, all it did was it gave me a headache and sent me to the toilet sooner.

  17. IO: Fire and ice With 67 moons and counting, Jupiter is a solar system in miniature, full of many weird worlds to explore. But two of its moons excite the imaginations of science enthusiasts like no others: Io and Europa. Io is the most volcanic world in the solar system. Slightly larger than our Moon, the world fosters multiple erupting volcanoes on a daily basis, some of which shoot plumes of lava 250 miles (400 kilometers) above the surface. Vast lakes and rivers of dark magma flow while a caldera named Loki emits more heat than all the volcanoes on Earth combined. Why so hot?Io is caught in a cosmic tug-of-war between gigantic Jupiter on one side and large jovian moons (Europa and Ganymede) on the other. The varying gravitational pulls stretch Io like a rubber band. On Earth, we experience ocean tides from the Moon’s gravity. On Io, there is a ground swell. The stretching of all that rock produces heat, which melts a layer not far below the moon’s crust that then bursts out of volcanoes that pepper its surface. Io is literally turning itself inside out.... More: Weird Moons of the Solar System: http://www.cosmosup.com/weird-moons-of-the-solar-system/

  22. Things work in mysterious ways. Opera 96 had updated to 96.0.4653.0 on 02.01.2023 (today) to Chromium master 110.0.5464.2. Earlier 96.0.4640.0 (on 20.12.2022) updated to Chromium on master to 110.0.5449.0 . I haven't tried the 96.0.4653.0 , I'm lazy to patch everything all over again. Sorry for the previous "acopule" typo, it's the consequences of celebrations, And Happy New Year !

  23. The Chrome version 110 will come out in February, and Chromium-based browsers and applications will base themselves off 110 starting from then. Right now it is still somewhat obscure. Opening a file and checking its version information would be slower than what GetVersionEx does, which is to make a call to another function which accesses a data structure located in memory. But Chromium already did both and still does now. I think the big difference is that some Windows 8+ specific code paths are still being skipped in Opera.

  29. No, this is not what I would do... So I would have two copies of the same profile(s) which diverge more and more in the future, if I would copy the NM28 profiles to NM27. Or...I would have to copy the profiles always when I want to use the other version - extremely inconvenient. An advanced warning would we good in case of the separation of the profiles would be a final intended decision. There is no other way to satisfy both sides, I think. So you have to change something in one line of four shortcuts (one time only, not every time you're using the other version) - this is much more easier then copying profiles whenever you want to use the other version (NM27/28). You also don't need any .bat to server your requirements. If you want to start NM27 with it's dedicated profile, click the NM27 shortcut - if you want to start NM28 with it's dedicated profile, click the NM28 shortcut. The issue @VistaLover mentioned didn't occur to me in the last years when I was using Nm27/28, as mentioned above - else I wouldn't suggest this method. In conclusion the "shortcut method" I described above is a good deal, I would think. OK, so OE Classic isn't a good replacement for Outlook Express... There are browsers for Win9x/NT4, actually: - K-Meleon 1.5.4 (2022/12/08) - RetroZilla 2.2 (2022/12/08) - RZ browser 2.2 (2022/12/08) "RetroZilla" is a suite (like SeaMonkey), "RZ browser" is just the browser. Of course, their engine (especially when it comes to JavaScript) is aged, but they support TLS 1.2. They are available via @roytam1's blog (https://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/) or via my website (authorized mirror, https://soggi.org/misc/tools.htm). kind regards soggi

  30. Well, I finally solved it about a year ago in one of those rare instances when I actually manage to find time to work on my long-suffering never-completed projects. You can stop the process that "deselects" these components by editing their respective .INF files and commenting out the "ValidateProc" line in each of their sections. Extract MOTOWN.INF and MMOPT.INF from precopy2.cab if they don't already exist in the main \WIN95 folder. Find the sections [media_acm], [Rec], [Vol], [media_clips], and [CDPlayer]**. Comment out (place a semicolon at the beginning of) the line in each section that begins with ValidateProc. (i.e. ;ValidateProc) Save changes. This should solve the problem. ** = I don't remember anything offhand about the [CDplayer] section; or whether or not this is required. I may not have looked into it further at the time, but just handled it similarly to the others once I figured out how to prevent them from being deselected.

Space Documentaries by Destiny - Best videos 2022 Something Strange Is Happening To The Solar System - Best Videos 2022 by Destiny - 99,587 views Dec 24, 2022 It would seem that the Solar System has been studied by mankind, if not completely, then in full detail. The planets have all been identified for a long time, rovers have been traveling on Mars for a while, comets and asteroids have been almost counted by name, and even the soil from one of them was taken and delivered to Earth for research. But this is where the scientists were dumbfounded. It turns out that our entire solar system, including the far, far away Oort cloud located at a distance of a light year from the Sun, is immersed in a giant bubble! Its diameter is 1000 light years. And what is remarkable, our Sun is practically in the center of this bubble! Are we really living in a huge bubble?! And how does our solar system actually work? "I watched this entire video over the past week and that last bit made me realize... even if you could live forever it would be a sad and terrible existence when everybody else is gone for good. And I think death is actually a good thing. After a long and love filled life, loving your friends and family and the beautiful of our existence. When we all have to be gone from earth, can we live in space without being depressed? Without missing our Sun? Or Earth... the wind... the oceans and trees. Life is fleeting and this is a beautiful gift we all share right now." Scientists Are Worried! Something Wrong Is Happening On Jupiter Right Now by Destiny - 1,346,772 views Oct 15, 2022 Scientists don’t only study planets, but also their weather. And on one of the planets in the solar system, there are storms 1.3 times the diameter of Earth, and raging with a force that is hard to imagine. What's going on with Jupiter, and why is it so important that everything is okay with the gas giant? "I always imagine that - when we die, we will become this "free spirit" noclip mode that can just roam around the universe in whatever speed that you want. So that you can explorer every wonders of the universe." It Might Happen For the First Time in 100 000 000 Years! by Destiny - 158,426 views Nov 26, 2022 Huge tsunamis tear down coastal cities and flood entire countries. Millions of refugees rush to the land that remains untouched. There’s not enough food and fresh water for everyone. Mass starvation and wars begin. Some scientists say this is what will happen to our planet in the near future. But what will be the cause? A huge asteroid impact? A supervolcano eruption? No… just this microscopic green plant, snow algae. Scientists have created the first large-scale map of their distribution across Antarctica. Researchers found that from 2009 to 2019, vegetation cover in Antarctica increased more than in the last 50 years altogether. Soon the white continent will turn green and then disaster will break out around the world. Although... Antarctica has already been covered in dense forests at least twice in Earth's history. What was happening on the planet back then? Why do scientists think that ancient Antarctica was covered with trees? And why would the transformation of an icy continent mean the total collapse of our world? "If this was two hours long it would have been perfect!" - yeah, 13:50 only...

NASA Discovers Mysterious Structure In Solar System! by Destiny - 1,430,178 views It seems that the solar system has been studied inside and out. Our spaceships have visited all of its planets and even managed to take their pictures. But today, we will show you our solar system in a completely new light. You'll discover secrets that haven't been revealed yet, hear eerie sounds coming from the solar system, see strange objects that frighten and amaze scientists, and even look inside the solar system's bodies! But let's start from the very beginning - the birth of the sun and the planets orbiting it! "One of the best videos I have watched! I love it!" 35. It probably tries to connect to OE Classic' s Activation Server, a now popular method for activating payware; the AS checks the validity of used license code (being legitimately acquired/"whitelisted" and not being shared beyond the sanctioned number of different devices/installations); should be easy to discover the hostname/IP of the Activation Server it tries to connect to via a MITM proxy; I suppose software like ProxHTTPsProxy could be used for that task... You probably want an "off-line" activation method for your work copy, but the author may respond, and rightly so, that such a method hasn't been provisioned for an app (e-mail client) that has to connect to the web for its intended (premium) functions... FWIW, their order page promises "instant" access (in bold) to the premium features ... https://www.oeclassic.com/order

  37. It's not technically corrupt (well it could be said from the older version perspective), sometimes you just have to move/migrate things around, rewrite some data to improve something and the old version obviously doesn't understand these changes. It's a one-way thing and the only guaranteed way back is with a backup. This is actually tweakable. There are registry settings specifying how exactly should the associated program be invoked, so you can put whatever arguments you need there. Does shell->open->command ring any bells?

  38. It occurs to me that WETV would be a great set of call letters for a US TV station, but a quick search shows there are none with those call letters. A few quick postscripts to this saga: First, Serpent 55 (thus presumably all UXP browsers as well: Serpent 52, NM 28, IceApe, etc.) work with Office 365's Webmail page, so that may be the easiest option for XP users. It's certainly the cheapest! Second, paying the OE Classic authors $37 wasn't the end of the story, at least for me. They did send me my license code, but when I tried to activate OE Classic, it tried to connect to the Internet, and failed. I don't know which site it's trying to connect to, but it's evidently blocked by ForcePoint (our company's Internet censorware). I have a proxy server set up to bypass ForcePoint, but naturally, OE Classic doesn't seem to honor the system proxy settings! So I couldn't activate OE Classic and get rid of that damn ad in outgoing emails. I emailed the author but have yet to receive a reply. If they don't come up with a solution, I'll have to ask for a refund. I assume the purpose of OE Classic accessing the Internet is to ensure the same license code can't be used to activate more than one copy. That makes OE Classic considerably more expensive: if I need a home copy, a work copy, and a laptop copy, that's $111; quite a bit steeper than it sounded at $37! So even if they do come up with a solution for #2, I may still ask for a refund and just use #1 instead. Or I could activate it on XP but use (free) Mozilla Thunderbird for the other two PCs.

  39. I think I also see it that way, seeing as I do use google for searching it doesn't matter because I'm not connected to anything or any other google services. I think that is what pale moon thought (to be unfirefoxed firefox) but realized it just don't work that way. Shame for people whom need privacy and want to enjoy life, I'm not one of them and am happy being off the grid (so-to-speak). I've never voted to owned anything or even had a credit card. At the same time I'm easily found but I don't care. Again, not the case for some people. Hope that made sense. Oh, and, welcome to our forum

  40. Great feedback. I'm hearing that the new prompts are confusing, but otherwise it's working correctly. The warnings are necessary on this first version. They will be phased out very quickly. I'm getting rid of the "Apilog.exe ... rerun" one now. It will revert to canceling the load silently. Done! The switch to enable auto-stubbing of load-time missing API's is a running ApiLog.exe with logging (to console or file) enabled. You do have an invalid AppHelp.dll in your path that fails to delay-load at each boot, however. Sheet.dll already had some issues that still need to be fixed. Only the version string display code was updated. What version were you using previously? The new ordinal support in Kstub825 is fully documented. The definitions work exactly the same as for named functions. The ordinal numbers just need to be specified as shown in the examples with leading zeroes as padding so they sort correctly. I've also replaced ExitThread with ExitProcess so apps don't hang if a missing API gets called. Kex22_26pre2.7z

  43. The October 2020 version works if it is set to "big picture" mode. You will see store information and everything. But sometime after that, the login window switched to being rendered by CEF (Chromium) so it is not possible to sign in as there is no text, graphics or buttons on the login screen now. As for the Intel drivers, I have a couple of systems that can use them but they are in very poor shape. Various differences in rendering quality are known to exist between Vista and 7 and I don't want Vista to be compromised by any changes I do. So I'll try to do something that doesn't "change" Vista to its detriment. Also, the Vista extended kernel will be able to run Chromium 110 and 111, at least with --no-sandbox. I will try to get the sandbox working in time for the main release of Chromium 110 in February. I am adding the appropriate functions to kernel32 and userenv. I just checked the Chromium source code and discovered that the version nags are persistent now because they are not calling GetVersionEx* or similar to check the version, but they are checking the version number of kernel32 instead.

  45. You would be best suited to search for such compatibilities online. It depends on the board and the NVME combination, whether or not Windows 7 will boot on it. You may need to install both the storage controller and disk driver to your boot and install images. Due to the various incompatibilities and not having time to figure out which NVMe/board options worked, I had decided to not use any NVMe for Win7 at all and only M.2 SATA SSD.

  47. Greetings. Please say to me, if i do something wrong... https://mega.nz/folder/68dj2YTY#As2w31IO4Smr7gy6p1ciSg OpenSSL*.7z - development files and binaries of OpenSSL (for testing purpose) 3proxy*.7z - package of 3Proxy + SSLPlugin. After launch bin\3proxy.exe it open port MITM 3128 (due to configuration stored in 3proxy.cfg). Additional options - "toggle_certstore" - to not save certificates in certs folder and "ssl_ciphers" - list of allowed ciphers in OpenSSL notation. Default "ALL" (~140ciphers), full set - "ALL:COMPLEMENTOFALL"(~190 ciphers) ProxyMII*.7z - package of ProxyMII + Python3.7.1. After launch ProxHTTPSProxy.exe or ProxHTTPSProxy.bat it open MITM port 8079 (due to config.ini) I'd tried to add to OpenSSL very weak cipher (DES-CBC-SHA) as 'last hope' to connect - but it doesn't work as expected. IE8 can connect with OpenSSL s_server via this cipher, but both 3proxy and ProxyMII throw an error. Yes, it must work without PosReady. At least i'd checked it on fresh virtual WinXP SP3 without additional updates (made sure there was no 256bits ciphers and TLS1.1/TLS1.2). Python 3.7.1 required Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable. In 3proxy next config open 3128 as MITM and 3126 as standard proxy for all domains except *.google.com and msfn.org (they will be redirected to 3128 port and, therefore, MITM). Domains must be listed in one line, without spaces, with comma as delimiter. ssl_mitm proxy -p3128 ssl_nomitm allow * * *.google.com,msfn.org parent 1000 connect+ 127.0.0.1 3128 allow * proxy -p3126 Best regards.
