Here, you will find a list of software compatible with Windows Vista, after installing the new extended kernel by Win32. As this project is very new, this list will remain quite short for the time being. List: BeamNG.Drive 0.16 and later Chromium versions 53-73 beta (later versions currently do not work) Firefox "classic" versions 53-56 Firefox Quantum version 57 and later GIMP 2.10.18 Google Earth 7.3.3 and later Interlink Mail client Logitech Gaming Software 9.02 Opera 44 (later versions currently do not work) Palemoon 28.x Rocket League Thunderbird versions 53 and later Waterfox Classic Waterfox Current Whatsapp I will continue to update this list as more software is made compatible. Feel free to contribute your own additions in the form of a reply to the topic, and I will add them ASAP.1 point

I've attached RAR5 compressed files with lists of download links for all official updates for Vista 32-bit and 64-bit Post SP2 up to April 2017. Includes all language packs for Vista, IE9 and local Help update. Also included are Ultimate Extras, Optionals and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 / 4.52 with updates. Superseded updates are not included except for a few ones just to satisfy Windows Update. Hotfixes are not included, unless available through Windows Update. Someone please mirror them on Web Archive. ASAP. EDIT: Updated files with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Language Packs. Installing System Updates: If you want to install a language pack, you must do it first, by downloading and running the language pack executable. 1) Download all files from Main_URLs.txt to the same folder. 2) Using WinRAR, sort files by type and unpack all .MSU files to the same folder, overwriting existing files. Then you may delete the .MSU files to save space. 3) Unpack the WindowsVistaSP2_x86_Installer.rar or WindowsVistaSP2_x64_Installer.rar (just batch files) to the same folder where you extracted the files. 4) Open a Command Prompt with Administrator privileges and switch to the folder where the update files are. 5) Run Main_Part1.bat, Main_Part2.bat and Main_Part3.bat. At the end of execution of every batch file, Windows will restart automatically. 6) Optionally you may install local copy of Help update (LangPacks_Help_URLs.txt) and the IE9 language pack (LangPacks_IE9_URLs.txt). PS: It'll take a while to install all 210+ updates. Installing .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 / 4.52 with updates: 1) Download all files from NDP35_45_URLs.txt to the same folder. 2) Unpack the WindowsVistaSP2_x86_Installer.rar or WindowsVistaSP2_x64_Installer.rar (just batch files) to the same folder where you extracted the files. 3) Open a Command Prompt with Administrator privileges and switch to the folder where the update files are. 4) Run NDP35_45_Install.bat, if needed Windows will restart automatically. 5) Optionally you may install a language pack (LangPacks_NDP35SP1_URLs.txt and LangPacks_NDP452_URLs.txt). Installing updates for optional features (only if you have installed IIS, IIS ASP, IIS FTP or Telnet from Program and Features Control Panel extension) Download all files from Features_URLs.txt and run the following .MSU packages if you have installed: IIS: KB4012373 IIS ASP: KB2124261 IIS FTP: KB975254 Telnet: KB960859 and KB30203931 point

(Note: this text is written for and directed at Big Muscle. Just pointing it out in case that the "you"s looks a bit wierd to you (the person reading this text)) Let me first get the most important thing out of the way: You CAN make money with open source software. In many ways actually: You can charge for the convenicance of auto updates You can charge for direct support (for example, via email or via a private discord chat) You can charge for the convenicance of having an already compiled binary version (which is especially true on windows; on linux for example, you usually git clone the repo, cd into it and type `make && sudo make install` and that's it. On Windows though...) You can make (optional) donations Speaking of donations: what you offer on your website, those are NOT donations. Those are payments. It is NOT freeware. You just get a free demo version. A donation is something optional. The point of a donation is not to get something back from it (besides maybe the knowladge of having helped someone/-thing or maybe getting a "Thank you" mail from them), but purely to support someone/-thing. And I want to mention that that is the only reason why I actually paid 5 bucks for it: not because I care about the watermark (if that would be my only reason, I could have just used a cracked version, and yes, I DID have a working one back then, but I didn't use it), but because I want this project to stay alive. In other words: I am pretty shure that a lot of peole donated just for support, or at least partially. Anyways, I of course know that there are not only positive things about open sourceing this software, namely: You may not make the exact same amount of money from "donations"* You may unveal your secrets* However, both of these arguments are very weak. The first one I already talked about above. For the second one: opening this app would mean that a lot more developers could integrate it (as in making their app compatible with it, not as in stealing your code; the only app I know of that supports aero glass is Winstep Nexus, and that one only works when it really wants to, which, as a dev explained to me, is not their fault). It would allow other people to learn about windows from (because, as described on glass8.eu, it uses undocumented windows features). TL;DR both arguments are... bad. Now let's finally get to why I think it should be open sourced: You (Big Muscle) are not able to maintain this on your own, or at least not in a way that I would concider acceptable for a paid app. Often times, this app gets a fix about 1-2 months before the next major update comes out, which will break it again. And again. And again. This app would be accessable to a lot more people. It would improve the user experiance since it will allow updates to be completed much, much faster. You would not have to stem this project all on your own anymore, which, again, you're not able to. Almost the entire forum is just "It doesn't work" posts. As described previosly, third party compatibility could also be improved massively. A concern you may have is others missusing your code to make money on. This is actually not a problem. You can either use the GNU GPL (or similar), which will technically not prevent your code from being commericallized, but since every modification that is being made availably has to also be opensourced under the same license (or a newer version), it is very unrealistic to think that someone would actually do it, exept maybe in those ***** bundles. While some apps (like OpenOffice or 7-zip, see here ) do suffer from this problem, I, again, don't think that such a tool like AeroGlass would really suffer from this. Alternatively, you can also write your own license, for example like this (this is not legal advaise): Of course, the above mentiond "license" is only one of many ways it could be done (and, again, it is not legal advise). I hope that you will change your mind about this program and it's licensing and distribution, as it would gain both you and even more so it's community. Cheers.1 point

Thanks, I expect there are other ways to do it. What I already posted works fine for getting rid of the unwanted characters. Most of the downloaded files from the links provided in the lists are .msu. The batch installers daniel_k kindly attached are expecting mostly .cab. So a little tweaking is required.1 point

Keep in mind firefox is in version 79 already. So not beta anymore.1 point

Hi, I'm busy with other stuff, so can't provide you with a script/batch file to rename the files. I'm sure you'll eventually figure it out by yourself. For obvious reasons, you shouldn't have such long filenames to avoid issues during installation because of long pathnames exceeeding MAX_PATH size.1 point

Dear WinClient5270 I compiled an installer for firefox 79 (beta) for Windows Vista with the extended kernel When installed, it should work out of the box. https://mega.nz/file/7jRymQYT#FCZXhFv9C8nWLF9hV7AJqGZQ8deh6oh31vBhP3wJSFY I hope this makes it to the compatible software list Best regards!1 point

Realtek 8821CE: https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/rtl8821ce-software (the second download link of course!) But the Radeon Vega 8 Mobile: https://www.amd.com/en/support/previous-drivers/apu/amd-ryzen-processors/amd-ryzen-5-mobile-processors-radeon-vega-graphics/amd-ryzen-5-2500u You may still have a chance with 2017 drivers, but wayback machine is broken right now though Why does OS support get dropped for mobile GPUs before desktop ones, anyway? You may want to look at this and inf mod the driver specified: https://community.amd.com/thread/224947 If you try using such a driver, you will probably have to disable driver signing enforcement.1 point

I'm not exactly sure what your hardware is, but I see that you have some kind of AMD graphics. Their newer drivers crash under Windows 8, yet they don't on 8.1. In any event, try finding the drivers on AMD's website. You also seem to have Realtek audio. Vista and up do have an inbox driver so it may not be a problem but it appears their newest stuff will work: https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zoo/category/pc-audio-codecs-high-definition-audio-codecs-software1 point

Great news! However little use we may have for Internet Explorer, it seems that Vista is still quite attached to it, so Vista users can benefit from the enhancement discussed here. It might be worth mentioning that the last cumulative security update for IE9 with an sha1 signature was KB4507434 in July 2019. (I’ll leave the can of worms labeled sha2 on the shelf.) July 26 was the third anniversary of VistaLover’s original post about enabling TLS 1.1 and 1.2 on Vista, and we all owe him a debt of gratitude.1 point

... If you have upgraded past 32.0.0.371 (as I expect most have already), simply uninstalling the newer version and running a backed-up version of the 32.0.0.371 installer won't cut it Adobe, since long ago, have taken extra measures to hinder you from easily downgrading AFP; you have to first uninstall a current version with their special Uninstaller tool: that tool also gets updated with each new AFP release and can uninstall the current version of Flash as well as all preceding ones; but it can't uninstall a fresher AFP version than its own! https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html (BTW, they have removed the check that was present after Flash Player information ; you get: Issue Flash Player installation was not successful. FWIW, version checks still exist on https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/ ) https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html#main_Download_the_Adobe_Flash_Player_uninstaller Permalink to the executable: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player.exe (currently at version 32.0.0.403)1 point

That's bad... I mean, putting notifications, fair enough, introducing a banner saying that it will be discontinued, fair enough, but removing the whole archive and putting a time-bomb inside an executable?! I mean, c'mon... I know that they're doing it for security concerns, but honestly, they shouldn't take such an extreme measure, 'cause perhaps I'm not on a machine connected to internet, perhaps I wanna run .swf files locally... Adobe shouldn't artificially block Flash, it should be up to the users, really...1 point

Although it seems doubtful that this issue is in any way related to Firefox, it might be helpful if OP could confirm that Firefox is selected as default browser in order to finally settle such questions. It’s puzzling that OSVersion values are still present after using Haller’s Reg file. For future reference, greenhillmaniac of MSFN has Reg files at his Repository in the Extras folders for x64 and x86 respectively.1 point

Hello everyone! Hereby I would like to introduce myself to you all. After browsing through this forum for quite a while now, I have decided to create an account and fully benefit from a membership status. As you might suspect, here in Switzerland we have many great goods. Chocolate, cheese, that kind of stuff. But what we do not have is a community for older Windows Operating Systems. It should be noted that Windows 10 surpassed Windows 7 as the most popular OS back in 2016 (!) here. I never understood why people had the urge to upgrade so quickly. So me, back then being a Windows Vista user, was out of luck. It would be a challenge to find anyone using that OS, let alone a proper, warm and friendly environement like this one! I have always loved Vista, for me the peek in Windows history. It saddens me that many overlook the fact, that Windows Vista was groundbreaking. It introduced us to a new era..but eventually it was 7 that got the reputation that Vista deserved in the first place. That is why I am here. Because this is the community I was looking for, a community that respects us Vista lovers . Note: People tend to say that my writing comes off as "cold-hearted" and "arrogant". That is not the impression I intend to leave! I fear the reason for that is simply that English is not my first language..I appologize for such issues beforehand. I am looking forward to the future and wish you well. It is important to stay safe, especially during such frightening times. Thank you for reading! NT 6.01 point
