At work, I can do the work of THREE people because I use scripts and macros and know how to get my computer to do some of the work for me. That is, afterall, why they hired me instead of another one of the folks doing 1/3rd the "efficiency". 1

Mathwiz Posted August 19 Posted August 19 The discussion of "whether one should" use Supermium's password manager is sort of irrelevant to @kwisomialbert's question anyway. He "does" want to use it but it's not working for him. So, is password manager broken in the latest version? (I don't have Supermium myself so I can't check.) As for losing your passwords if the HDD crashes, I know; make regular backups, yada yada. But again, the computer is supposed to do some of the work for you, and storage isn't that expensive. So why doesn't the password manager make multiple copies of your passwords, ideally on different drives if you have them? For that matter, why isn't mirroring/RAID more common in PCs today, so if an HDD fails, you just replace it and let the PC take care of rebuilding everything? Two or even three 2.5" drives don't cost that much or take up much space. 1
Dave-H Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Supermium's password manager is working fine for me, and always has done. It is backed up to the cloud by Google Sync, so it's synchronised with my other Supermium installations on other machines, (I know, I know, but it works for me, and I don't use it for any really sensitive passwords like online banking!) I back up my whole machine locally regularly as well, of course. 3

Mathwiz Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Thanks, both of you. As I don't use Supermium myself, I'd forgotten that it isn't "unGoogled" and, therefore, Google Sync is available to back up one's passwords with a somewhat reasonable level of security.
justacruzr2 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Probably not the first to post about Supermium but it's great. Tried K-Meleon but it didn't work right for many websites. Tried MyPal but never could get it to run. Always blew up on start with the message MyPal has caused an error in kernel32.dll......MyPal will now close. Still have and was using Firefox 45.9 and it did pretty well with the exception that on some websites, such as this one, clicking on a button wouldn't work and many websites I had to make a security exception for Firefox to load the page. But Supermium is letting me go anywhere I usually go with no problems. Everything is displayed correctly and every button works. I'm very impressed and hope the developers (I know its a modified version of Chromium) keep it up to date for any future changes to the way browsers work. My system is an HP Pavilion Media Center with dual-core Pentium D processors running XP Pro SP3 on the one drive and XP Pro Media Center Edition on the other. Very handy to have parallel installations. Anyway hats off to those who work on Supermium. Great job!
Monroe Posted September 22 Posted September 22 (edited) I assume that you are talking about the version of Supermium in the 'Web Browsers / Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes' section. That version does not seem to be portable or am I wrong? I am using Win XP and would like a portable version that is Google free for Win XP. I found a version at Major Geeks: Download Supermium Portable - MajorGeeks / Supermium Portable 132.0.6834.226_R5.02 Date: 08/26/2025 Size: 192 MB License: Open Source Requires: 11|10|8|7|Vista|XP https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/supermium_portable.html Then at PortableApps.com: Supermium Portable 126.0.6478.261 R7 (web browser with legacy support) Released A new version of Supermium Portable has been released. Supermium is a web browser based on Chrome with legacy Windows support (XP/vista/7/8). https://portableapps.com/news/2025-01-27--supermium-portable-126.0.6478.261-R7-released and there appear to be at least a couple versions at Github ... but they seem to be only for Windows 7 and 8. I've been wanting to try Supermium for a year or so but just not sure which version to work with and if a portable version would work. In the Supermium topic in 'Web Browsers' there is never any talk of a portable version. Would that portable version at Major Geeks be OK to go with? ... I've read the talk about using only an 'ungoogled' version. Thanks ... Edited September 22 by Monroe sp, add
NotHereToPlayGames Posted September 22 Posted September 22 1 hour ago, Monroe said: there is never any talk of a portable version Technically, the developer doesn't have to create a portable version. Any web browser, be it Mozilla-based or Chromium-based, can be 'made into' a PORTABLE version by using a "loader". I've only used PORTABLE browsers for the last THIRTY YEARS.

I've read the talk about using only an 'ungoogled' version. Thanks .. I think NOTHEARTOPLAYGAMES has answered your portable question. The version I downloaded is the 132 etc, etc version. I just picked the 32 bit version for XP but didn't notice if there was a portable version. . I suggest you try it. The first time I installed it I chose the "ungoogled" version. Problem was that eliminates Google as being one of the search engines you can make as the default. Since I regularly use Google for searching, I uninstalled it and re-installed it without checking the "ungoogled" mode. There is no "ungoogled" version of Supermium. It is a choice you make during the install. Edited September 22 by justacruzr2
justacruzr2 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 7 hours ago, tekkaman said: How is the performance with a Pentium D CPU ? Does Youtube play videos ok ? It's good performance after the first run. First run sets up a bunch of stuff on your computer (files/folders) and that slows it down a little bit. After that it's alright. And yes, YouTube works like you'd expect. There is a performance setting in settings. If you have ever used Chrome it's pretty much the same layout and should be familiar to you.

Also, that seems a bit vague, "Pentium D" reveals a benchmark score of anywhere from a terrible 374 to an impressive 3240. 12 hours ago, justacruzr2 said: It's good performance after the first run. That's only talking about the launch time for the GUI to load, that doesn't really reveal "good performance". For me, running all three v132s on the same exact hardware, Supermium is THE SLOWEST PERFORMANCE compared to "real" Chrome and "real" Chromium. Edited September 23 by NotHereToPlayGames
justacruzr2 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 My Pentium D runs @ 3Ghz and that might explain why performance on my computer is better. I'm happy with it.
justacruzr2 Posted September 23 Posted September 23 One more thing I'd like to mention is that during the install, when you are presented with the choices you can make as to how it will install, there is one check box that says "Do Not Modify Registry". It's probably not a good idea to check this box as Supermium fools websites into thinking you are running Windows 10 or 11 with Chrome.. Don't know how performance might be affected if you do check that box. Also, what I can see from the files it installs, runniing Supermium "ungoogled" or in Classic v60 are modes that are switched using script shortcuts. You will see them in the directory as Supermium (ungoogled,) and Supermium (classic). There might be different entry points in the executable that accomplishes this.
