Thank you, i didn't know that. However i downloaded latest version for better web compatibility.

@roytam1 can better speak to this, but it's unlikely that later versions of his FF 45 build will help with Web compatibility issues. AIUI, the changes he's been porting into FF 45 are mostly security-related. I'd be surprised if any changes to FF 45 have been to support newer Web features, like

The page expects support for Web Components in the browser, precisely customElements.

According to the chart at the link, customElements wasn't added to Firefox until version 63, well into the Quantum era. No hope for any of @roytam1's browsers unless either:

  • JustOff can pull off the trick with an add-on somehow (not holding my breath)
  • MCP gets around to adding customElements support to UXP; is that what @UCyborg meant by "not finished yet?"

Yeah, he's got an extension for GitHub/GitLab utilizing so called "polyfills". Also seems to have some more specifics than just "work on these URLs".

Web Components, which includes customElements, were supposed to make it in one of the last major versions of Pale Moon, but it hasn't happened yet. Partial implementation can be enabled in about:config by turning on dom.webcomponents.enabled.

Just tried that, but then YouTube doesn't load any more... :realmad:

As time goes by, Pale Moon becomes more and more obsolete for use with the "modern" web...

Better to just put a lightweight Linux distro on old hardware and use a decent browser.

The video plays with nothing else working when enabled in Serpent?

While were at it ... I have a question (2 actually) that I've been wanting to ask .

media.eme.enabled

Should that be enabled (default false), as media.eme.apiVisible is defaulted to true?

media.mediasource.webm.enabled

Should this be enabled (default false) as, media.encoder.webm.enabled,  media.mediasource.webm.audio.enabled and media.webm.enabled are defaulted to true?

Thank you in advance.

I've been trying out several linux distros.

Also, another option, there is 360 Chrome that is working (quite) well and this computer is so old, they were taking dinner reservations on it for the last supper ;)

media.eme.enabled

Should that be enabled (default false), as media.eme.apiVisible is defaulted to true?

You can enable it if you have an Encrypted Media Extension worth running. The only EME left is Google's WideVine, but the last version that runs on XP is no longer used for streaming, so there's not much point in enabling it.

I just checked and that pref is enabled on my browser, but that was just a leftover from testing the Adobe Primetime CDM (another EME) for playing h.264 videos. It works, but @roytam1's browsers have simpler ways to play those, so there's not much point in enabling it either.

Wow ... thank you very much for answering - I had no idea it was pointing to Encrypted Media Extension and I don't use WideVine or Primetime so I will disable (toggle to false) both:

media.eme.enabled

media.eme.apiVisible

As well as:

media.gmp-eme-adobe.enabled (already false)

media.gmp-eme-adobe.visible

browser.eme.ui.enabled

Very much appreciate your help :)

I wish they would concentrate on finishing that rather than finding more things to remove from UXP! customElements has been standard for some time and implementing it would probably go a long way toward making their browsers work with several troublesome sites.

I would guess that YouTube tests whether some aspect of Web Components is enabled; if so, it tries to use it, then fails due to the incomplete implementation. So in this case, no implementation beats partial implementation.

All to stay the folks still running 7 are doing so for a reason, and are NOT about to be suckered into a fourth-rate OS like Windows 11. We share many of the same concerns and philosophies as those running Vista, XP, 2000, etc.

Whats the newest hardware that you are running Win 7 on?

I'm not running any new hardware really, my main PC is a Dell OptiPlex 980 tower, from 2009 or 2010. A bunch of them were being recycled so I snagged as many as I could.

Hi guys. I've been using Serpent / Basilisk for a while and it works pretty good. Thanks roytam1!!!

I wanted to ask you what is the proper way to upgrade to the latest version. Is it to unzip the new basilisk.exe and paste it on top of the old one? I would like to be able to keep the settings, addons, etc. Thanks in advance.
