Windows 2000

Extreme Explorer 360 (Chromium 69) - General Discussion

@BTTB, Chromium-family browsers use multiple processes, whereas older Firefox-family browsers use a single process and typically in x86 Windows, a single process can only use up to 2 GB of memory (unless /3GB is set to assign 3 GB to programs and 1 GB for the kernel).

Firefox 54 is the first multithreaded version, and 53 was successfully run on Windows 2000 extended kernel by @blackwingcat. I wonder if later 5x versions are possible with the kernel wrappers available for XP?

what part of "360chrome is Chromium 69 and needs no kernel wrappers to run on XP SP3" did you fail to understand? :dubbio:

That remark was in reference to the previous sentence about multithreaded versions of Firefox (given that Chromium 69 is multithreaded, which was cited as an advantage over the older Firefox-based builds that also run natively on vanilla XP).

It was somewhat off-topic as well so I apologize nonetheless.

360Chrome 17 May 2019 Update
The translated pages of the 360Chrome Forum aren't too bad if you scroll and read, it may help fix any issues you may have.

To update your 360Chrome Browser, go to Customise and Control on the far right of your browser page, scroll down to Help and click About.

I have to say it's a pretty neat browser that is based of chromium 69 and works on XP! Plus with tweaking it's privacy settings it's a great browser! :D

Hi.:hello:

It is difficult to make a Chrome setting with a good level of usability and privacy.
Could you insert some tests?
Thank you.

P.S. I would be more interested in seeing the connections blocked with UBO

Hello Guys

Could someone provide a link to an English (UK or ZA) spell checker for 360Chrome.
One that works while you type.

Also, I have Enhancer for YouTube Version: 2.0.89 en_US [en-US] extension installed.
Anyone have a workaround for the slow choppy video and sometimes crackly sound.

Thank you.

Regards,
BTTB.

The invite link is invalid, however I'm gonna contact him via the advanced Chrome Forum. There's no reason to have two backported version of Chromium when we can have a joint project and share what we achieved. I'm gonna send him everything we have done as soon as I have the chance to have a word with him, then perhaps this time we will really have Chromium running on XP. :)

There's a link to a test Chrome 76 in the second url you posted, but when I start it up in XP I get: "Entry Point Not Found: The procedure entry point AcquireSRWLockExclusive could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll"

Oh well...

AcquireSRWLockExclusive was introduced in Vista, so perhaps it will at least run in Vista?

As for converting to run on XP, perhaps it and related SRWLock calls could be replaced with a mutex or critical section, at the expense of performance.

It doesn't seem to work on Windows Vista.

"The procedure entry point TryAcquireSRWLockExclusive could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll." followed by an "Chromium XP has stopped working".

Perhaps @FranceBB could contact the developers of this Chrome 76 project because his project at least didn't give an error in Vista (only the "Chromium XP has stopped working" appeared). This way they could combine their ideas and solutions and maybe, just maybe get Chrome 76 up and running.

Well, wouldn't you know: TryAcquireSRWLockExclusive requires Win 7.

Sounds like he's way ahead of you....

Good. Meanwhile, 360 Chrome is working OK, and actually can display correctly things well beyond Serpent 52. Even if not perfectly compatible with Chromium 69, it sure is way beyond Google Chrome 49, and that's pretty useful as it is.

I contacted him and he replied.

Please note that his very first release release is expected to run on Windows 7 and above as it's just a test, so it will not on XP and Vista as there are many missing kernel calls. Even by linking it to our modified kernel there are still QueryThreadCycleTime, SHGetKnownFolderPath, SetProcessDPIAware, and an API API-MS-WIN-CORE-SYNCH-L1-1-0.DLL which makes use of OpenProcess which will prevent it to run on XP.

I sent you a new Discord invitation via Skype. By the way, I'm having trouble registering for MSFN so can you tell the people on there that Chromium XP release 0 is only for Windows 7 and higher? I saw that they were expecting it to work on XP but release 0 only includes GUI changes and a fix for "not a valid Win32 application".

I sent to him our code stored on GitHub and some of our compiled binaries, although I didn't send the compiled version of Chromium yet, but he'll be able to access it soon as I'm gonna add him to the Windows XP Forever group.

C'mon guys, let's make this flipping browser run! ;)

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I'm trying Chrome 360, but it's asking me for a 360 Account. Can't I just log in with my google account? Is there a way to link those two?

EDIT: Some messages about the CPU and other stuff are still in Chinese. Is there a way to get them in English?
