Crash dump is indicating the issue to be related to ATSwpWDF.sys. This file is used by the Fingerprint/Biometrics (AuthenTec) software.

Apparently it isn't an option anymore. I read many posts on Google Groups that pretty much say you are SOL if you don't want to put in a phone number. I even have this issue (partially) as Google had once asked me to put in my phone number but I refused so then they suspended my account on Google+. It's fine as I don't use Google+ but when they had recently did their account merge with G+, Gmail and Youtube, it ended up suspending my Youtube account too! I can still use Gmail tho... I guess I will just have to live without being able to like or upload videos.

I've dealt with MSSE team on one occasion and I agree they seem to have their own priorities that don't seem to match up with anyone else's. jaclaz Even our pals at Microsoft now are encouraging people to just "look it up" in Windows 8. And it isn't very helpful!

No I do not keep a record like you say. I had taken a screenshot of the issue and it is still on the image host.

I really don't have a folder with a lot of EXEs in them. I organize everything I download. So as a test I just went to the System32 folder and MsMpEng.exe went up to 50MB. It idles at 36MB. So I can say I've never had a problem with MSSE at all and not seen any sort of performance impacts. (This is on Windows 7 not 8 so I'm off topic here)

There is no red x in Mozilla browsers. Here is an example of when a similar thing happened with Ponch's avatar: Ponch no longer has this problem with his avatar and it shows up as the gray man for me now, but aviv00 (among others) has always shown up looking strange. Although, it could be caused by my particular security setup, since I have seen screenshots from other users which do not show this type of display.

Intel tried this years ago but the other manufacturers balked at the idea because they would be losing money on those proprietary parts. Aside from HDDs and RAM (although nVidia and AMD have been moving towards modular mobile video recently) you are pretty much doomed. Have a hinge break on your notebook? Is it a common issue with that specific model? Go to Ebay and find a replacement hinge kit for $70 because everyone else's hinges are broken! Basically any time a friend or relative wants me to look at a notebook, I have to use the disclaimer that in most cases physical damage repair can cost almost as much as just buying a new one. You can install Windows 7 on top of itself but it won't save any settings. All (or most) of your files would still be present but most programs would be required to be reinstalled anyways. Part of the reason is that it replaces the registry. But I agree. The inability to do a repair install during boot is annoying. I like how Windows XP had done it instead.

Use notepad to search for any log files created at the time of boot. It may also use setupact.log instead.

All this and no network troubleshooting? Can you ping google.com? Can you ping 173.194.117.6?

Home DVD Recorders never had a chance. When they came out, Tivo was already on the scene. Once TV providers started offering DVRs, that took care of all of it.

Aviv00 doesn't have an avatar. His condition is not unique of IPBs that have been through migrations. Some users who have a default or "no avatar", after some upgrade levels the original "blank" resource (or whatever) no longer exists and results in it displaying strange. But, this display issue is browser specific. In Mozilla browsers it puts a box around the username and sometimes a post title.

If the deployment uses DISM, you need a Windows 8.1 boot image. The DISM from older OSes can't service drivers or updates at least. What are your DiskConfiguration settings? What are you deploying to?

I'm guessing this is because all the users that MS should be listening to regarding how to improve the OS are also the same users that uncheck that box to send data/particpate in the customer experience programs.

That is not a universal key. It is a Volume License key that was leaked with warez copies of Windows XP.

When you get to the first page, open a CMD and then notepad and look at the wpeinit log file that is on the ramdrive. It will show whether or not it picked up the answer file.

Well, for one, Imagex doesn't support Windows 8 or 8.1. You would have seen errors during deployment. You would need to use DISM. But what you describe makes me think it is a video issue. Do you have a different monitor you could try?

Now that's quite a switch for gaming in general, and Sony in particular. Legacy embracement rather than Legacy breaking. Naturally the MicroZealot fanboys have nothing good to say about it. If this happens, I'll probably get it. My PS2 is starting to show its age so much so I've been contemplating buying a normal DVD player.

Are you running via an elevated command prompt?

While that is the case, it is always true that it is the BIOS itself that determines whether or not you have the option of having no logo at boot. With notebooks, their BIOSes are typically very limited. The only way would be to use a whitebook BIOS (potentially) or to modify the BIOS itself. That's no easy task so you're probably just better off not bothering.
