Replace cloned Windows 7 with a new working Windows 7.
Tripredacus replied to KlingKlang's topic in Software Hangout
You can install Windows 7 on top of itself but it won't save any settings. All (or most) of your files would still be present but most programs would be required to be reinstalled anyways. Part of the reason is that it replaces the registry. But I agree. The inability to do a repair install during boot is annoying. I like how Windows XP had done it instead. -
Can't get WDS to see Unattend XML

Use notepad to search for any log files created at the time of boot. It may also use setupact.log instead. -

The Case of the Disappearing DVD Recorder
Tripredacus replied to Monroe's topic in General Discussion
Home DVD Recorders never had a chance. When they came out, Tivo was already on the scene. Once TV providers started offering DVRs, that took care of all of it. -
Aviv00 doesn't have an avatar. His condition is not unique of IPBs that have been through migrations. Some users who have a default or "no avatar", after some upgrade levels the original "blank" resource (or whatever) no longer exists and results in it displaying strange. But, this display issue is browser specific. In Mozilla browsers it puts a box around the username and sometimes a post title.

Windows 8.1 and 2012 R2 WDS deployment
Tripredacus replied to navrenga's topic in Unattended Windows 8/Server 2012
If the deployment uses DISM, you need a Windows 8.1 boot image. The DISM from older OSes can't service drivers or updates at least. What are your DiskConfiguration settings? What are you deploying to? -
I'm guessing this is because all the users that MS should be listening to regarding how to improve the OS are also the same users that uncheck that box to send data/particpate in the customer experience programs.

how to Build Pre-Activated Windows XP Disk
Tripredacus replied to MrPrince's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
That is not a universal key. It is a Volume License key that was leaked with warez copies of Windows XP. -
Can't get WDS to see Unattend XML
Tripredacus replied to heyjim's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
When you get to the first page, open a CMD and then notepad and look at the wpeinit log file that is on the ramdrive. It will show whether or not it picked up the answer file. -
Yes I never understood why some forums have rules against bumping topics. Especially since most boards have the ability to archive un-used threads into a read-only section automatically.
-
Well, for one, Imagex doesn't support Windows 8 or 8.1. You would have seen errors during deployment. You would need to use DISM. But what you describe makes me think it is a video issue. Do you have a different monitor you could try?

Now that's quite a switch for gaming in general, and Sony in particular. Legacy embracement rather than Legacy breaking. Naturally the MicroZealot fanboys have nothing good to say about it. If this happens, I'll probably get it. My PS2 is starting to show its age so much so I've been contemplating buying a normal DVD player.

how to Build Pre-Activated Windows XP Disk
Tripredacus replied to MrPrince's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
There are certainly other threads for this subject already that have nothing to do with warez. Here is an oldie: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/71016-multi-manufacturer-pre-activation/ And some general information about the subject from our Unattend guide. http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/29/ But if the goals are to... say... take a Dell OS and put it on an HP, well that's a different story. -
Are you running via an elevated command prompt?
-
While that is the case, it is always true that it is the BIOS itself that determines whether or not you have the option of having no logo at boot. With notebooks, their BIOSes are typically very limited. The only way would be to use a whitebook BIOS (potentially) or to modify the BIOS itself. That's no easy task so you're probably just better off not bothering.

Not as bad as this...

Yeah that World Championships cart from last week... It was collectively agreed that it has been the one in the worst condition to appear so far. Not counting that one that got VGA graded (and other recent finds) at least the seller put tape over the eproms. And Earthbound has a problem and that is the amount of bootlegs that have entered the market in recent years. You may say that World Championships is the rarest, but the only reason people say this is because of the price. There are far more uncommon games that don't get the same hype because they don't go for so much money. That, and for some reason, Nintendo fans have inflated the market and get all the attention. For example, the Sega Genesis has a competition cart too and even less were made than the NES ones. http://www.sega-16.com/2013/02/sega-ages-blockbuster-video-world-game-championship-ii/ Hearing about the NES cart is boring now, it seems one pops up every year or two. Maybe a dozen have entered the market in the past ten years and some website makes a big deal about it every time. I can't figure it out.

Replace cloned Windows 7 with a new working Windows 7.
Tripredacus replied to KlingKlang's topic in Software Hangout
There is a way to do a repair (in-place upgrade) on Windows 7 but you need to do it from within the OS. It is unlike XP where you could do the repair by booting off the OS disc. If that OS came with your notebook, you aren't allowed to transfer it to different hardware. -
Bing Desktop taking 320GB's of my drive. How to uninstal?
Tripredacus replied to Balconybar's topic in Windows 7
There is a malware that is known as "Conduit Search Protect" or "Search Protect by Conduit" that uses the names "Bing Desktop" and "Windows Search" when installed. The common way to determine this infection is that your default home page or search page in various browsers may be false page. For example, I've seen one infected PC with this malware where the Firefox and IE home page was a fake Google search. It looked like Google but the URL was wrong. Topic may be moved to the malware forum if user confirms this is the case. -
language package
Tripredacus replied to forever0donotknowme's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Well now, most OS files are not redistributable. Maybe if you can be more specific (like... WHAT language), someone can find a link to a language pack on Microsoft.com somewhere. -

IPB Update July 2013 (to version 3.4.5) - BUGS Only
Tripredacus replied to xper's topic in Site & Forum Issues
You can try going to the XP Unattend guide in this case: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/ I do not know if it uses a db on that part of the site, but the main site index isn't really cached because it pulls those news stories from the database. -
There seems to be a few Adventure Time games, which one are you referring to? http://vgcollect.com/search/adventure+time I don't like the show. Something about it, not quite sure. It isn't so much that I'm not a kid (well maybe it is) as I do enjoy watching The Amazing World of Gumball or even Regular Show.
