Win7 Deployment methods
Tripredacus replied to Bobbymat26's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
I don't use Lite Touch with WDS but I do use WDS... at least just for PXE booting. The reason for DHCP is that the client needs an IP address. In a default (single server setup) the DHCP server also knows the location of the PXE server. So when you set a client to boot to the network it sends out a request to get an IP address. The DHCP server responds with an IP address and some other stuff like gateway and what the PXE server's IP is. If WDS is on the same server as the DHCP role, they work together so it sends the address automatically. If the WDS is on a different server, you configure the DHCP server with an option and enter the IP of the WDS. So then the client will send its capabilities to the WDS. The WDS looks at the capabilities and responds with the appropriate boot file. -
You are right tain, you can interpret it that way. If you dig down to the bottom, there are 2 types UEFI 2.3.1 firmware and BIOS. We call "it" (the menu) the BIOS still. UEFI BIOS (sic) usually has legacy support in it and can be changed in the Boot section or CSM. You can choose if you want devices to boot in UEFI or Legacy mode. Some systems let you enable both, but I prefer to use one or the other... Now the amount of systems that would let you replace the entire firmware with an actual BIOS rather than a UEFI is going to be limited. For example, the Intel 6 series boards you can find some that have either a BIOS or UEFI. Intel coincided adding UEFI to their boards with support for 3rd gen CPUs. You can find board REVs here: (3rd Gen-Ready AA#s) http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-033076.htm But I am unsure if you could dump the BIOS from the old rev and put it on the new rev. I think for most people's concerns is that they can disable UEFI boot in the BIOS (and secure boot or whatever else) if they have the option. Then, for all intents and purposes, they have normal "BIOS" ... As mentioned, all "BIOSes" are different and some may not operate the same way as others.

Alternative methods to change OS boot on Dual Boot.
Tripredacus replied to Dogway's topic in Windows 7
I was surprised by this just last week. I am working on a custom appliance and it uses a wireless/BT keyboard. I did not expect that I could enter the BIOS using it but it works just fine. -
Windows Mail is only in Windows 8, its fine to keep the topic here. I, myself, do not use the program.

You can change the setting in the BIOS usually. I think if the disk is in GPT format, it may not boot in Legacy Mode on some hardware which may require a reinstall. On some BIOSes, when you change to legacy it won't show the HDD as a bootable device, or you may get a BCD error.

an autounattend.xml file work for win 7 & 8.1
Tripredacus replied to aymon102's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
The answer files I use for Windows 7 and 8 are the same except the product key is different. So if you just didn't have the ProductKey object, the file would work with both. -
I have been able to reach autoitscript.com for 2 days now. Anyone know anything about it?

XP Event Log entries' help links no longer working?
Tripredacus replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
I never use those links. Did they actually go to a page that was helpful? I seem to recall they went to some page about as helpful as a 404. -
The user has not set their country in their profile, it is possible they are using a different locale than en-US. Also Windows does not treat all keyboards the same. For example, using an Apple keyboard on XP also ends up having "odd" key press results on the non-Windows keys.

Explorer Application Error on restart in Server 2012 R2
Tripredacus replied to Tripredacus's topic in Windows Server
I forgot that a KB came out for this issue. It is not a fix, but maybe a patch will come in the future. NOTE: It was discovered to also be a problem with Windows 8.1. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2929203 -
That date is for Windows 7 stand-alone only. You can still purchase a computer with Windows 7 installed from an OEM under the Downgrade Rights program after that date.

A similar thing happens if you try to modify signed drivers. At least those can work for testing purposes because you can disable Driver Signature Enforcement.

I liked how Superman Returns was pretty much a sequel to the 80s movies. I haven't seen the new one yet. I have that Supergirl movie. Its kinda boring as compared to the filmmaking of the Reeves movies.

I can think of a reason... but if so I would have experimented with trying to get a free app first.

All controllers work a little bit differently from others. That's why I asked for models. You look up the technical docs for those controllers to learn what their capabilities and requirements are.

Well let's take the 3ware 9750 as an example. Batter backup p/n iBBU07 is an optional component which can be connected to the card. It says this about it: and From here: http://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/wiki/RAID_Controller_and_Hard_Disk_Cache_Settings

The problem is that Apple is pretty good at not allowing non-certified devices to download apps even if you purchase them. But I wonder how you were able to purchase it without having a device to access the store?
-
Well we have a hardware forum (I just move the topic there) so you can post what controller you have.

If you have a cell phone with a sim card, it can cause feedback through a speaker when it reups with the network.

[REQ] Clean Msconfig on the first Login after WPI.
Tripredacus replied to yocarim's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
MSconfig is just a program. Do you mean the items listed under Selective Startup? -
This sounds more like a hardware question. What is the controller you are using?

At a point where you cannot access a DNS name, go to the CMD and use NSLOOKUP to see if you can resolve the IP address.
