best tool to add the taskbar back in windows 8.1?
Tripredacus replied to legacyfan's topic in Windows 8

However you manage a firewall I suppose it doesn't matter where it resides. But having it on the network edge is better since you can manage it for all interfaces and not just one computer.

Hardware firewall has been my best performing option. Also makes it so I don't have to tool around in the OS changing a bunch of things.

Best to use the Direct Link option instead of BBCode. The forum does not fully support BBCode anymore unfortunately, the editor will parse it but it gets stripped from posts after submit. Future IPB updates may remove it entirely.

It is random.org not .com Anyways, sites with Cloudflare DDOS protection have has a pre-loader message for a few years now. It is only recently that 1) random.org has had it (it appeared shortly after that large cookie notice that takes up the top 1/4 of the page) and 2) the Cloudflare message changed the text to checking if secure. It is also possible that websites that are using the Cloudflare service are not aware that some browsers can't pass this message. But I also wonder if these same browsers were able to pass the old pre-loader message that Cloudflare used to use.

I've been seeing the "Checking if site is secure" message on a few sites, I think it is not actually doing what it is saying. I haven't seen any that got stuck in a loop but I have seen 1 (somewhere) that never went past the message. It was a one-off site visit and I didn't care enough to get past the message. For me it happened with Palemoon 28 (Firefox 60).

What is your preferred release version of Windows 10?
Tripredacus replied to sunryze's topic in Windows 10
This is not true across the board, but may well be true for versions available under Retail or Enterprise subscriptions. There exist versions that use online activation, the same as a Retail Windows OS. -
Back when those OS were current, Flash wasn't the only game in town. IMO the best video quality of embedded media players was Quicktime and with RealPlayer often being the worst. Apparently there is a plug-in for Windows Media Player but for some reason I have no memories of that one. https://websitehelpers.com/video/formats.html

Windows 7 On A Samsung Evo 960 SSD?
Tripredacus replied to legacyfan's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
You would be best suited to search for such compatibilities online. It depends on the board and the NVME combination, whether or not Windows 7 will boot on it. You may need to install both the storage controller and disk driver to your boot and install images. Due to the various incompatibilities and not having time to figure out which NVMe/board options worked, I had decided to not use any NVMe for Win7 at all and only M.2 SATA SSD. -

Running Windows 98 in 2020 and beyond...
Tripredacus replied to Wunderbar98's topic in Windows 9x/ME
The rationale for removing vanilla from the thread title was because Vanilla implies completely untouched and that such an OS is likely extremely rare. Modifying or adding things makes something no longer vanilla and it doesn't matter if it is a KernelEX or not. -
If the external servers that the browsers send info to are known then the IPs or domains should be listed so that people can add them to any firewall or proxy they happen to have. As a small example, in my Dev environment, it is completely isolated however I have a set of 10 IP addresses outside of the DHCP scope that allow internet access, but the firewall is configured to block all access to Microsoft websites from those IPs. People can choose for themselves whether they want to use the browser or not, and how involved they want to be in using it.

Computer-Central (Feature Request & Support Thread)
Tripredacus replied to legacyfan's topic in Websites and Boards
It just redirects back to the web host. -
I will try this weekend, but if it requires a restart, we may never know if it works.

No versions of Windows are abandonware.

Microsoft Windows XP Embedded (Codename: Mantis) Service Pack 3
Tripredacus replied to Dweiwin's topic in Windows XP
That is likely because the majority of the Embedded software downloads were behind the ECE/SOC paywall for many years. It (ECE) is not around anymore, so I don't think there is any harm in pointing out that it once existed. (EDIT: the first link actually talks about it) Also wanted to point out there is something from 2009, an Update Rollup 1.0 with a p/n X13-82297. And before you ask, no I can't make it available. -
No.
