  1. Do not copypasta text from other sites and make it a thread. Put the link to where you stole this info from. MSFN is in EU so we have the EU Copyright Directive to deal with.
  2. Firmware is just to say code on a chip, typically writable chip, on a PCB. Non-writable chips can have firmware (technically) but obviously it can't be changed. The point at which something needs it would be any sort of complex function that can't be handled with your typical electrical logic methods, gates, triggers and the like.
  3. Updated It can get to a point where you don't end up getting to have the same username everywhere. It isn't the end of the world.
  4. Any OS modification can be talked about but only if the instructions to create such modification are the primary method of doing this modification. Distribution of OS files or complete OS ISOs is not permitted, nor the promise of making them available to either the public or in private.
  5. It is still to combat spammers, but I do not know the stats on the block.
  6. Dupe topic. Other one is here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183446-windows-81-extended-kernel/
  7. None of the remaining links on that thread go to any sort of download.
  8. Forums that still do the delete inactive accounts thing are either running extremely old software or do not know why that SOP was created in the first place. The issues with large datasets in tables for forums were solved ages ago, so there is no issue with needing to purge accounts or things like threads becoming very large.
  9. Basic network troubleshooting. Verify your current IP, gateway, DNS and subnet. Can you ping gateway? Can you resolve DNS? Know that Windows does not let you use multiple gateways. So if you have WLAN connected and it has a gateway, LAN won't have one and vice-versa. Make sure if you have DHCP on both interfaces that they are not trying to use the same IP range/scope. If you are trying to bridge the networks, you may want to use static IP on the LAN and have WLAN on dynamic.
  10. I'm sure you've read the forum rules, specifically Rules 1 and 4e (to cover the bases).
  11. You only get 1 intro thread.
  12. Moved this and Detox posts into Funny Farm. Not funny, but, posts don't count.
  13. Experienced a power outage last night. The previous system shutdown at 4:23:00 AM on ‎2/‎23/‎2023 was unexpected. Four hours previous, this log was generated: The system uptime is 38087169 seconds. I am really thinking these experiments are going to be over soon, that computer needs to be replaced.
  14. Product keys being put into the BIOS only started with Windows 8. Named OEM Vista install suppresses activation, so it would not ask you for a product key (or you could skip it) when installing with the OEM's recovery media and it will show activated. MS changed named OEM COA with Windows 8 to not have a product key on it, whereas 7, Vista and XP still did even though they were not used. NOTE: Named OEM COA is the type of COA that has the manufacturer/OEM's name printed on it.
  15. This is false. A system with a COA with a product key on it should not have a product key in the BIOS.
  16. There are two main ways to obtain it that I am aware of. If you are talking about "just getting the OS" meaning it is installed onto a PC, then the license cost is less than $200 plus whatever the price of the computer you get it on. You do not get recovery media in this way and you also do not get the product key. The way to get the installation media is a bit different. Microsoft does not sell one-off media + COA for IOT Enterprise SKUs. You have to buy the "kit" from an Embedded Partner. The kit is the DVD9 Master and support documentation and I'm thinking that comes to somewhere in four figure territory. The product keys are a separate cost and come in minimum quantities in the tens of thousands.
  17. My understanding of a typical corporate environment is that their toolset consists of archaic database connected applications and websites. So the days of needing to update your OS to run your fancy enterprise/corporate software is a thing of the past.
  18. I used these terms in google hp ftp netwaiting

  20. It seems their old site is primarily locked behind server-side stuff that wasn't capable to be archived. IGN is the company that ran both sites, so they are the content holder. So if you can't get any help from them at their website, you could try interacting with them on social media like twitter. https://twitter.com/IGNrando
  21. It seems to be SP20495 https://ftp.zx.net.nz/pub/archive/ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp20001-20500/ But it is a waste of space unless you are using a dial-up modem.
  22. No one here can help you defeat the copy protection of a program. Doesn't matter the age. Have you tried contacting the company who made it? I don't know French well enough to navigate their site, but there are some screenshots of the program you are talking about here, so I imagine it is the correct website. https://ignrando.fr/fr/transfert-logiciels Contact link near bottom https://ignrando.fr/fr/espace-pro#service7
  23. Think twice before hitting the Submit Reply button. There is no harm to leave a useless post, maybe it is not useless to someone else.
  24. OK it is a VM. Windows NT is a bit particular concerning CPUs. My guess is that it is seeing more than one CPU and you are using the wrong edition for the amount of CPUs exposed.
