  1. That is likely because the majority of the Embedded software downloads were behind the ECE/SOC paywall for many years. It (ECE) is not around anymore, so I don't think there is any harm in pointing out that it once existed. (EDIT: the first link actually talks about it) Also wanted to point out there is something from 2009, an Update Rollup 1.0 with a p/n X13-82297. And before you ask, no I can't make it available.
  2. The only updates that really matter are those that deal with security certificates.
  3. Over the past weekend, both my home computers (32bit and 64bit) have had their Chrome updated and now both have the nag message on them.
  4. No. And do not attempt to delete your old posts. If it is found that you have deleted old posts, those posts will be restored to the best of our ability and you will be banned. It is very annoying for us to have to do this type of cleanup (we have done it before to those who decide to deface their posts on the forum) so we'd prefer that you do not attempt to do such a thing.
  5. Yes there is an easy way but there is not reason to do it. Better would be to lock one or the other (or both)
  6. No, you seem to request a different username whenever you change whatever your focus is. There have already been at least 3 changes in this thread not counting requests that were denied.
  7. It used to be very good, but has gotten worse over time. And bloated along the way, reminds me of a certain operating system.
  8. Do not create duplicate intro threads.
  9. I don't have specific details (I can get them if needed) but it appears that the CurseForge launcher no longer supports Windows 7. However, it does look like the updater checks compatibility before updating rather than after. Every time I open it, it has an error that says to update to Windows "10.0" and then the message goes away and I can do everything I normally could. CurseForge launcher is used for Minecraft but there are (or where) many alternate launchers.
  10. He was so optimistic that I was fully expecting him to rejoin the forum like nothing ever happened.
  11. Rep doesn't mean anything, so it doesn't matter if people are farming rep or not. The reason it is here is because it is on by default from the forum software. It is not worth the effort to turn it off, since (as stated) it doesn't mean anything.
  12. Meta failed because it is VR and VR is not mainstream. VR has many issues, making people sick is one. Another is the content is severely lacking or not any better than just being like a video game. Meta was created to be a newer type of place like ActiveWorlds which was always niche even back then. An online world like that won't be in every household until they can make it work for everyone and there is actually a reason to have/want to use it.
  13. The service is called Software Protection and it is present on Windows 10. Windows 10 does not use the same vote system as XP. I do not think that the things that it reads to (I'm not even sure I am allowed to say what it does with this info) is available to the public. I have yet to run into a situation where activation is lost by changing anything in the system outside of the mainboard and that has been the case since Vista. Vista and newer you can change any hardware and it isn't going to enter notification because of it.
  14. If it had to be done, I put the .exe into some folder, usually mount:\intel. Then using FirstLogonCommands, point to a .cmd file located in the same place. Then in the .cmd would be a line like so: c:\intel\setupchipset.exe -s -norestart
  15. I try to not use the .exe if at all possible, rather see if I can find a download with the INF files in it. Alternatively, you can look onto the Windows Update Catalog for cabs by searching for the DEV_* value.
  16. All the drives in my first post are still running, but the first 80 GB one has two SMART warnings now and really should replace it.
  17. In the past, I certainly did have specific reasons for using Chrome. Mostly that certain websites worked properly with it while others didn't. Things likely changed and now I can't really think of any real reason to want to prefer Chrome for anything, except maybe to stop Google Drive from showing the incompatible browser message. So I think my initial reasoning for wanting to stick with Chrome is just old ideas, or perhaps that it is what I had been used to.
  18. I can't speak for anyone else as to how they are acquiring it, but IOT Enteprise in the LTSB/LTSC branches is not a retail OS. There are two ways to acquire it: 1. Be an Embedded Channel Partner/IoT Distributor 2. Buy a computer with the OS already installed There are demo/trial versions that can be acquired. If you buy an appliance with the OS installed, you do not get installation media, but certain companies may provide recovery media depending on volume. So far in my experience, no one has bothered to request recovery media for any appliances with an Embedded SKU since XPe was still available. Nowadays clients are perfectly fine with hotswap warranties. Official info here but note that ways to acquire this OS outside of these methods cannot be discussed here. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot/iot-enterprise/commercialization/licensing
  19. You didn't put the model for the system. DDG seems to indicate that it is S01-pF1013w, and if so then the maximum amount of RAM supported by the board is 32 GB (2x 16 GB) https://support.hp.com/id-en/document/c06696087 https://support.hp.com/id-en/document/c06678632
  20. I have not seen any messages on Chrome on my Win7 32bit at home about EOL yet.
  21. At least with Mozilla based browsers, you can download a specific version and just never update it.
  22. It was always clear that stop/start was a big picture thing and has nearly nothing to do with the individual. That is the primary failing of the article that takes the individual point of view, or the single car angle. It is entirely big picture and that aspect of whether it helps or hurts is what is important. But for the individual, or "the selling point" for a person to buy or use this technology, it depends on a couple of things. First of all is the lifespan of the product. We may have been living in a world recently where people do not keep vehicles for a long period of time anymore and this shouldn't effect how technology is designed but we all have a feeling that it does. This stop/start thing may work well now, but will it work well in 6 years? How about 10 years? I never wanted it because I live in a area where it gets cold. I know how regular cars work when it is cold and the start/stop tech always sounded like a recipe for disaster. I am glad that (at least for now) if you buy one of these cars, the dealer can disable that option for you.
