  1. then its not a bios issue, so my idea is out the window. try a different hard drive like, i believe, someone else here suggested. also, what hardware have you changed since the last time you ran XP?
  2. when i reload my computers i dont have much to install anyway, so i just reload it manually. that way i never lose my touch
  3. i have a feeling when vista comes out in full, your still going to need a quick computer to handle it. my computer is no ancient piece of hardware, but its still fairly decent. and my rig could just barely run vista. i dont like the aero interface either. i like the XP one the best to be honest. im using XPize and the regular xp interface and i like it. i also dont like how they changed the start menu, now its just all on the one panel. i prefer the all programs menu. its much easier to find stuff that way. mind you if i played with it enough, id fully know how to use it, but i dont feel like learning anything new right now windows explorer is horrendous, its terrible looking. the classic one worked, and its efficient, leave well enough alone apart from all that, i like a few things they have changed. like the icons for instance, i like how some of them look, not all of them. anyhoo, thats me.
  4. i know i have been kinda against 98se, but i still need it as an operating system for a few computers in my house. so how can i help? iv written a tutorial on how to get the ipod to work under 98. i dont know if itll work under 98 FR, but i can test that out. its here if you want to look at it

    IE7 and looks?

your not alone, it is hideous looking. they should have stayed with the "classic'' look there. im no fan of tabbed browsing either, they can have it as far as im concered.
  6. hey, i just saw this post here and i gotta tell you, nice website site. very simple, doesnt take long at all to load which is good, because it makes it perfect for a homepage for a browser. going to be using it on mine ill tell ya, keep up on it

hey man, np, good work deserves compliments
  9. this topic seems to be very touchy with people. i personally dont care what os im using. just as long as it doesnt crash on me. and right now, XP is where im intending on staying. i run 98SE (with all the updates and stuff found on this wonderful site ) on a compaq laptop and it runs great on there. runs fast, efficient and doesnt lock up on me at all. the worst thing i have happen, is the folders keep getting set back to sorted by names. i like details, sorted by type. and 98 doesnt seem to stick with it. its weird, its only 98 that does it. but meh, once i get it set and dont touch it, its fine. on my other computers i run XP because i have the power and i have 2 dell XP recovery cd's anyway, so why not? my dell laptops and my desktop both run XP and the compaq runs 98se, and im happy everything is fine. anyway, thats me.
  10. dont care, vista (imo) will just be another windows ME. it might be alright, but i have a feeling its just going to die out. itll be like disco, wont here about it much. to me, my computer is more than fast enough. XP is about the newest OS i think i will ever be running for a while. i dont like the look of vista, and i dont like how a lot of it works. the new startmenu is one thing i really despise. hopefully if i buy a new laptop in the future, i can run XP on it. if not, then ill buy a used laptop. anyway, im out for now. dinner time

man wolf your amazing with graphics lol thats awsome, i wonder how many people are using your pics great work
  14. i have a feeling it might be something like what i have run into. have you ever installed XP or 2000 on this machine before? if not, then maybe your bios just isnt compatable. My inspiron 7000 is not win server2003 compatable, i get a blue screen trying to install it. if i dont have the bios set to LCD only mode XP and 2000 fail to install. i still have a sneaking suspicion its something to do with your bios. but i could be wrong, hopefully i am
  15. best thing in your situation would be to get another harddrive and install windows on that in place of the drive your using right now and test with that install. having one hard drive in at a time will reduce the risk of messing up your main harddrive. thats about the only way your going to get around that without reloading your main partition.
  16. i dont know if that is possible, windows XP wasnt really meant to do that. but then again, i have been surprised at what can be done with windows (by just about everyone on this wonderful forum) so im sure that anything is possible. the best thing i can suggest though would be just to incorporate all the drivers your planning on, then when windows is installing is just uses the drivers it needs anyway. that might be your best bet. i hope someone else can offer more insight into this for you. good luck
  17. what are trying to get, the actual drivers for your hardware? or do you want to do something fancy with them? Sound : creatives support site Mouse : logitechs site Mobo : msi's site Hard Drive : well im not sure on this one, i dont know if hard drive's require drivers. anyway, i hope that helps, if not, just shout back
  18. if you still havent gotten the drivers, ill post em on my site for you. edit, nvm sorry lol i didnt read the rest of the post there.
  19. you could take the monitor right off the computer, then just hook a monitor up to it, then you dont need another mouse or keyboard. or look on ebay perhaps for a dead laptop like yours with a good display, then just change em around. just a coupla ideas
  20. not really a bug in windows XP/2003, your deliberately trying to crash it. under normal circumstances, XP and 2003 are fine. that sort of thing could crash anything.
  21. lol i heard about those, werent they only around 2 - 4 gb? my dad's friend had one. he said the thing was toooooo big. (physical size i mean) didnt those drives have problems? just some i mean.
  22. Sound works fine but just like the network stack, it is almost 10 years old, - Audio stack has been running in Kernel mode, sound when your sound crashes you can get BSOD, the sound stack is now in user mode, sound when sound crashes, it restarts audio and that is it. -audio now can be controlled by a per application proccess, turning your sound up for Media player and down for your game or IE or any other app. - New Audio API, allows for people who write sound into apps or write drivers for sounds cards to more easily write code against to the sound stack iv never had a problem with the audio part of windows. XP seems stable enough for me, so im just gonna stay with it.
  23. i just want to ask this, why did they need to redo the sound part of windows? the sound portion works fine for everyone. the network i can understand, it doesnt work too well for me. i go to browse other computers on my network through my wifi network, and 1) its slow and 2) it crashes my router
  24. mine was brian10161, dunno where i came up with that (or what i was on... ) anyway, nows its cygnus (thanks to martin ) which is a constellation. it looks like a swan aparently, i dont see it , i just like the name heres more info
