well, i have a spare palm IIIc with a bad display, its going red now everytime i turn it on. i hear is a special gas in the fluorescent tube is being eaten away, and is imbalanced, but w/e i dont care lol. its dieing as far as im concered. anyway, i was wondering if anyone knew of a different OS i could load onto it to mess around with. i wanna try linux da, but it says it only works with palm III, IIIx, IIIxe and others, but but not the IIIc, and it doesnt have any way of typing or syncing, and im not paying for it, its not worth it on my end anyhoo, i wanted to try a IIIxe image from the IIIc OS 4.1 upgrade disk i bought a while back, but it failed in mid transfer lol. so meh, i went back to OS 4.1. i also tried 3.5 that i had backed up from when i originally had 3.5 but that didnt work (stupid palm os emulator ) thanks for reading guys

i tried using my laptop, but it was distorting the sound for some reason. its an ESS maestro 2 pci audio chip. and the one in my desktop is a SiS 7018 audio board (onboard) and it worked fine in my brothers computer (he has the same audio board) anyways, thanks for the replies guys

if your worried about signal quality, put a signal amp in the line. that will definatley help.

make sure you put blinds up to keep people from seeing this wonderful new machine but anyway, it sounds like one heck of a computer your going to be building, make sure you post some pics cheers

i think that for the most part you are right, but i still think that any coax cable will work fine. we had a satellite here at my house and my dad installed it and just used some cable we had laying around from when they built our house and that worked just fine. our internet guy ran a new "special cable" saying it would be better for the modem and stuff and that we'd have better reliability, well... he was way out to lunch on that. it didnt do anything for us. (and we were using the same cable as what was in the house and our house is over 14 years old so.... thats my take on it. i think any cable will work just fine, in the end its probably just how well its sheilded

lol i know, my mp3 player records through a line in, but... well... it uses the plugger encoder and im a bit of an audiophile and it doesn't sound very good. so i just used the line-in on my brothers computer and split the songs up and well, it worked quite well thanks for the replies guys

you dont seem to understand, forums are fical thing. i cant just make you admin, you could do something to the forum, then im shut down and your going strong. your forum is better than mine, i will admit, but im also kind of a gaming forum, so i cant really be 100% sure if you know what i mean. plus based on your spelling and grammar, i can't believe your a pro at this... besides, how old are you anyway?

i have two albums on vynil (the beatles red and blue albums) and my dad wants them copied to the computer, however when i start to record them to my desktop they dont sound very good, i have the recording rate at 44.1khz, and 16bit (audio cd quality) and im using the line in on my desktop and the tape 1 output on my stereo. the problem i am having is when i play the files back, they have a weird distortion in the back of the right and left channel, as if my computer isnt recording it properly. i have done many records before, and never had this problem. but now its doing it. anyway, i just want to know if its legal to download the same songs from a p2p program. if its not, i wont and ill see if i can record the records again using a different computer, but i just wanted to make sure before i do something illegal. i dont see why it would be illegal though, i have the original vynil prints and lets face it, my dads not going to carry around 4 vynil records with him lol he just wants the songs on his mp3 player for his car. any input is appreciated thanks for reading regards, cygnus edit : never mind, ill just use my brothers computer to record the records onto the computer. it seems as though my sound card might be dead. edit 2: lol now that i have a lot of free time (recording 4 vynil records is going to take a little while) i decided to do a lot more research and i have found out that: if you own a song on vynil/cassette already, its illegal to download the song from a p2p client such as kazaa. why? i dont know, but im not going to argue with that. anyway, feel free to delete this post mod's.

well, at first you need to have a cd rom driver loaded so dos can read that drive, then you can run the 98lite file and start setup through that. so, heres how i would do it: 1.) boot computer with windows 98 setup boot disk 2.) make sure that 98lite is on a seperate floppy disk so you can have it handy 3.) format the c: drive 4.) run 98lite, ( it will ask for 98 cabs, redirect it to your cd rom 5.) continue with setup as normal 6.) enjoy hope you can get it to work, if not now, then tommorrow. regards

well, the way i installed 98lite is i copied that file to a floppy, then have a boot disk handy too. make sure your in dos mode, and after formatting the harddrive fat 32, copy 98lite EXE fle to the hard drive, then run it. it will then ask for the 98FE/SE/ME setup files. then pretty much follow the on screen stuff. its pretty easy. if you need any more help ill be happy to grab 98 lite and try it on my computer and go through it with you.
