  1. How-To: Recycle Bin on the Start Menu By Cygnus, Tom, VA(s)T, ricktendo64, oxcoxp and Arnab NOTE: Also adds "Show Recycle Bin icon on desktop" to Folder Options, Show/Hide "Recycle Bin" to Start Menu Properties Instructions: Download INF file, right click on it and click "Install" then reboot. Disclaimer This tweak is freely distributable, but, if you are going to modify this registry tweak and post it on the internet, please give credit where its due. I do not condone plagiarism. So please give credit where it's due. Tom, VA(s)T, ricktendo64, oxcoxp, Arnab and myself worked hard on getting this registry tweak working. Thank you. Thanks go out to all who helped work on this project. Change Log: RecycleSMD.zip
  2. Thanks for the reply. I found the registry key, deleted it, rebooted, no difference I know this is an old laptop, and the video card isn't an AGP card. There's no spyware or anything, I know for a fact it's a performance issue lol I just want to disable the whole change to grey background and just make it so it leaves it all color. This will prevent the mouse cursor stuttering around the screen. It's not much of an issue, it's just something I'd like to have fixed. Thanks again.
  3. It looks like a popup really, although, it's more than likely its some kind of virus. If kaspersky isn't finding it, you may want to try some other virus program. I'm not too familiar with Kaspersky. Try disconnecting from the internet and see if they persist. It really looks like adware.
  4. Audacity will do that for you. Just need to set the input to something like "stereomix" or something like that. It should do what you need.
  5. I was wondering if anyone knew how to do this. The reason I ask, is because I've noticed how slow my laptop is when it does this. It makes the mouse stutter, and I'm sure it would allow the theme to be changed faster. Thanks in advance
  6. Sorry to resurect an old topic, but rather than create a new one and point to this one, I'd rather post in here so people know exactly what I'm referring to. I can't find a copy of this script. I would like to use this on my own unattended cd as I have about 4 laptops that I reload with XP and all use a wireless network. I think that this script would help speed up my installs. Thanks in advance for any information.
  7. Wow thats pretty **** good, but I doubt its very useful. I bet it does give a better understanding of what should be removed, what could be removed and what should not be removed for future "lite" versions of XP.
  8. I can't beleive how politically correct we have to be here in Canada. I wrote on the chalk board at school on Thursday, "Merry Christmas" and the teacher told me to erase it because its politically correct. So I said "Screw politically correct, it's a slap in the face to US Canadians". I'm so sick of it, so, let's all say Merry Christmas!
  9. I just downloaded and booted the live cd of Mepis Lite and I gotta tell you. I really like it so far, I have booted it in a VPC on my desktop, but in about 10 minutes I'm going to go downstairs and give it a shot in my PII366 laptop. If it works in that, and its speedy, I may just stay with it.
  10. I'm in the channel currently, theres only 1 other person in there.
  11. Thats strange, is the "Pin to Start Menu" option still on the right click context menu? Assuming its XP I mean.
  12. Heres a How-to at Winguides. Please keep in mind you have to modify the registry to do this. Backup before you start. That should hopefully help you. If not, search on google for it because theres tons of sites showing how to disable SFC. I do it through nLite so its always off in my installs. It even speeds up the install process a bit too (especially on my old PII 366) Google Search
  13. Would it be suitable for a Pentium II 366 laptop? Just wondering because I haven't found on that is any good (speed wise that is). Almost all Linux distro's I have tried have suffered in the performance sector.
  14. I don't like adding to much to things. Thats the reason I use the plain Jane XP default Luna style. I also find that adding to much to something will often result in instability and performance drops. So, thats the reason I choose to use everything pretty much stock.
  15. AOL Instant Messenger version 5.9.6089 for nLite Download: Tripod Size: 8.09MB This Add-On will install the AOL Toolbar and AOL Explorer. Sorry for any inconvenience. I'm currently working on fixing that. First version I have been able to find. I hope someone finds this useful. I have tested this, and there appears to be only one bug, but it doesn't prevent anything or cause anything to fail. All that happens is, during the install process, the "Sign On to AIM" window appears. It closes when Windows goes to restart, so there shouldn't be any problems. If you do find any problems, please leave a message here.
  16. I use Miranda-IM on my laptops (I do use the MSN/AIM original clients on them too) and I find it perfect for systems with 128MB - 256MB of ram. If your over 256MB then you can just use the original clients. And yes, Miranda-IM takes a lot of time to setup/configure it your way, but I have noticed lately I prefer to use the stock stuff. The actual program isn't buggy, it's most of the add-ons that people will install with it. Use the base install for a few days and you'd be surprised.
  17. System File Checker. It checks system files to make sure they haven't been modified.
  18. Did that, and no more window thingies thnx
  19. Heres a tool I like using, very simple to learn too. It's called, 1-4a Rename, its a freeware renaming program that is portable. You can just run it right out of the Zip file 1-4a Rename [under 1MB] [single EXE] - Freeware program to rename multiple files
  20. I had this problem all the time when using Windows 98, I don't know what I did to get around it. You could try this though, set the folder you want, then goto folder options and apply to all folders. Then tick the check mark "Remember each folder's view settings." (If its already on, turn it off, then back back on or vice versa)) Then click OK/Apply. If that doesn't work, try pushing the Control key on the keyboard when you close the window. Make sure you have it setup the way you want though. Hope that helps somewhat.
  21. May you post your last session!! Sure, no problem. Keep in mind though, it is a designed specifically for a laptop.
  22. I had a laptop that didn't have the Floppy or CD-Rom in at the same time, the bay was modular, and I use to install 98 on it all the time without a floppy. The only problem I had though, was right after it does that first progress bar thing, it would kinda "lock" up, but it was really searching for the floppy. It would actually sit there for a good 2 minutes, then it would go through and be fine. I got around it by just copying the Win98 directory to the HDD and installing it from there, but it wasn't a major problem. lol @ blond moment (some people at my school are stuck on a permanent one )
  23. I have been using Windows XP Professional on my desktop ever since I got it (4 years ago this Christmas) and it has always been a speedy little machine. Its an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 512MB Ram and an ATi Radeon 9200 Pro 128MB. I put Vista on it, the boot time went from 32 seconds (XP Professional) to 3 minutes and 14 seconds. I find that a bit ridiculous. I even tried to use it for about a week (someone told me it would get better with age) and let me tell you, it got worse. It took over 5 minutes to boot by the end of the 5 days I had been using it. I got so irritated I immediately reloaded with Windows XP and have been using that ever since. I will never use Vista, unless I get my new laptop this summer , I'll probably reload it with XP if I can. I have been using Windows XP Professional OEM, nLitened on my PII 366 with 256MB ram (And my other Inspiron 7000 with 384MB Ram) for about the entire time I have had these two laptop computers. They both boot in under a minute, and they both run XP extremely well for their age and given specs. To all of those who say Vista will run smoothly on any computer that XP runs smoothly on, is full of crap, or have never used a computer the way I have. Don't say its something I'm doing, theres no way because XP and Vista were both stock, clean installs. Try installing Vista on a system with the same specs as mine (the Ram is PC-133, I've even had DDR-400MHz and it was still slow) Stop saying that any computer that will run XP decently, will handle Vistaa no problem. I'm so tired of this.
  24. I use to, but I didn't notice much of a difference in performance, so I stopped. Maybe if some people recommend some good ones though, I might do it again.
