what codec are you using anyway? if theres properties for the codec, whether it be in system properties or the actuall player, check in there and see if theres a defaults button. if so, click that and let it put everything back to normal. how are you playing the movie? on a tv from your computer or on the computer monitor?

iv seen viruses damage hard drives, video cards and monitors. why not changing a setting in video decoding properties? anythings possible
-
probably not an option, but i would try getting another hard drive (just a temp of coarse) and take out your primary right now and swap them. then, load windows on the temp drive. you may have a virus or something of the like. just a thought.

same my friend and i had the exact same problem. we're both back on 6 now. plus 6 looked better imo.

im waiting for the day they put a mini A/C in there that'll keep it cool, with A/C you could probably acheive about 50'f or so run temperature on something that small.

What is the best forum software?
prx984 replied to xtremee's topic in Web Development (HTML, Java, PHP, ASP, XML, etc.)
iv only worked with IPB, phpBB and PunBB and they all have theyre own advantages. However, IPB has to be the best. It has the most features and add-ons available for it (from what i have seen anyway) phpBB is, imo, a nicer looking forum though, i like the look and simplicity of it. but by far my favourite is punBB, its small, fast, and its got a lot of add-ons as well. also, i like the look of it a lot too, not as much as phpBB, but its pretty darn close. i like the simplicity factor of setting it up and using it too. the best way for you to find out which is the best is to take them for a trial run. setup a free hosting package with a company and just try some different ones. for testing phpBB and IPB, try www.forum er.com (no space) and for trying punBB try using www.my-place.us -
change the words "service pack 1" to "sp2"
prx984 replied to mraeryceos's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
well, im running XP sp2 pro on my 366 laptop and heres how many services i have running on it: you can disable a lot of services, considering the amount of services running on a fresh install are about 2 pages on 1024x768 ill admit, its not as many as 2000 pro (7 or 8 you can the system on), but its a lot better than the stock way of running it. if i didnt notice any difference in speed on a 366, then i doubt you'll notice a difference in speed on a system much faster (perhaps a 500 PIII or so?) im just trying to give you some information on the topic. thats all. -
thanks worked like a charm you wouldnt by any chance know where i can get more sidebar gadgets though, do ya?

change the words "service pack 1" to "sp2"
prx984 replied to mraeryceos's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
theres nothing wrong with service pack 2, i don't notice any speed differences. my laptop (366) originally had windows xp without a service pack, then i upgraded to SP1, then i got SP2 dell cd. no difference in speed, in fact, it was a little faster. as long as you slipstream the SP into the install cd and reload your computer, the speed difference is very lower. if you do an install of SP right onto an already installed copy of windows, its slow and really bogs a computer down. the reason i think, is because it puts a lot of useless things in, like temp files, reg keys stuff like that. thats just my opinion on it. @nepali, id like to get that sysdm.cpl file from you if you could -

how did you get the 1024x768 screen? id like to put my laptop to that, 640x480 looks terrible on a 14 inch display. -
id be interested in knowing this too, the default XP games are lame lol

iv got 4 vista keys and only 1 computer (that itll run on)

if you pay for it, just make him pay for half or more based on what he downloads ill look around when i get home tonight for a way to block it. but the best way is to actually remove him from the network/internet.
-
it will still attempt to boot, but the likelyhood of it actually starting and running and not complaining about being a different computer are slim to nill if any. still though, its worth a shot.

PC shuts off after a few seconds of turning on
prx984 replied to roger8wilco's topic in Hardware Hangout
it really does sound like a bad CPU, return it if you can for another one. if that doesn't do it, im sure someone else around here will know. -
by passing WGA is illegal, don't bring msfn down by discussing how to remove it. just buy a copy of XP home upgrade or something.

hi and welcome to the forum, i see its your first post well, for your first question about the internet shortcuts, i'v never seen that happen before, you should just be able to copy them over and they would be fine. although, strange things do happen. your second question, i dont think it would be safe to delete the first partition because that one is probably set to active and thats the boot drive, therefore it wouldnt be safe to delete it without first modifying some other things. this would usually be in the boot.ini file, but theres a lot of other things about booting a computer i know nothing about. although, you can edit the boot.ini file to only startup the installation of windows on the E partition. the bios and oem patching i know nothing about so im not too much help there that topic is illegal to talk about from what i know so i will not answer to that as i know nothing about it. this sort of thing is illegal too, do not talk about this. but no, xp pro and home both have the activation part unless you buy a VLK which allows you to install on a certain amount of computers. heres how you can make a bootable XP SP2 cd without losing any information: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/wxp/

didnt mitch work on the Neptune project?

would have been pretty nice to see that to be honest. i like the whistler look. windows classic is by far my favourite look though
