  1. My entire computer is speedy, just IE7 is jumpy when it scrolls on some webpages. MSFN Forums here is just fine scrolling, but Google result search pages is jumpy. I'd prefer to have both like Jermey said. Post IE7, my entire IE experience was a great one, then when they updated whatever it is in the core of Internet Explorer, the scrolling got quite noticably laggy. If you guys want, I'll see if I can post a movie of what I mean.
  2. Kool, no problem. Glad to hear it's going to be updated soon too I just finished making myself a fully unattended cd with IE7, Firefox 2.0 and WLM. All working perfectly on my PII 366 laptop (So speedy now too, nLitened cd down to 200MB )
  3. Thanks for this, I been looking for Firefox to add-on to my XP cd. If you want, I can host it on my website?
  4. That makes perfect sense, since visual themes = bitmaps, and when you're scrolling it has to bitblt them - IE7 "programmers" probably wrote their own software-bitblt routines that completely bypasses the hardware bitblt (several orders of magnitude faster) that's been in every video chip since the early 1980s.I ask, do you really care how a couple of buttons look? Yah, because I don't like the Windows classic theme (plus it looks horrid how it handles that). Also, I find it dumb that IE6 worked better than IE7 on the same hardware. It just makes no sense to me. I have noticed that IE7 works better when I put my laptop to 16bit color, but I'd rather bot do that because then the icons look like crap.
  5. Okay, now for a question then, 32Bit or 16Bit color? I'm running at 32bit color, 1024 X 768.
  6. No problem man, glad it worked
  7. Try sorting by Type. They appear to be sorted by Name in that picture.
  8. No problem, glad it worked
  9. No problem, everyone makes mistakes now and then.
  10. Right click in the white, and goto Arrange Icons By ----> Show in Groups. That should do it. The best way to put all the folders back to the way they are by default (Which is view by Tiles, sort by name, and Show in Groups) is to go into folder options and click "Reset All Folders" then that will restore all folders to the way they are when Windows is first loaded. I myself prefer, Sort by Type, view by details, and all windows maximized.
  11. XP Pro is an Operating System, (for example, it is what runs Microsoft Office) And Office XP is a set of applications for doing Student/Office goer work. I would guess that XP Professional is better because it runs Microsoft Office
  12. Does anyone know of a way to make your own proxy server on a home desktop computer, then use it at a remote location? I'm interested in turining my desktop into one for use at school (our internet has a ton of sites blocked that I go on) I found a program called FreeProxy, but I don't know how to set it up (using the manual right now). Thanks for any information. Edit: Got FreeProxy working. I can now connect to AIM/MSN and any website I want through FreeProxy. Just needed to do a lot of port forwarding and some other configurations such as setting up default users.
  13. Nothing definitive on the cpu usage. Goes up, but so does Firefox/Opera. Firefox and Opera peek at 78% where as IE7 is about 80%. The image does that on all browsers, but with IE7 its the actual page scrolling. It only happens on pages with a search box too (this is what I found on a few websites) and thats where the "Enable visual styles on buttons and controls in webpages." option was questioned. What do you mean by this?
  14. What are the system specifications on your 266? I'm using a DELL Inspiron 7000 with 256MB of Ram and 384MB of Ram (I have 2 Inspiron 7000 laptops) with 4MB and 8MB video card (respectively, ATi Rage Pro) and they are both PII 366's. They run Windows XP just fine, and IE6 worked perfectly. IE 7 scrolls jumpy (only certain pages have the scrolling issue), Firefox 1.5.0.8 and 2.0 work just fine, as does Opera. I wish that the option in IE7 wasn't the fix. I like having the XP themed buttons in IE, it looks a lot nicer. Heres what I'm refering to: It makes no sense to me
  15. In 7 days, I will have loads of time to test it. However, I think I'm going to work with my dad after the 27th. Either way though, I'll have quite a bit of time to test this out. And, it'll be tested on a PII 366 Latitude CPi that I'm getting for Christmas
  16. I have no problem running, its just scrolling on certain webpages is jumpy. It's really beginning to irritate me because theres no reason this should have happened. Are you using the XP Luna theme on your 266? If you use the Classic theme, thats why your not seeing the jumpy scrolling.
  17. I'm currently trying to figure out why Internet Explorer has been doing this. I have installed IE7 on 3 computers. 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The 2 laptops I can understand would do this, but my desktop? Anyway, my problem is, IE7 has a very pecular problem where, when I scroll on certain pages, its jumpy. It lags too sometimes. IE6 did this too, but only on pages that were riddled with ads and flash crap and especially with java BS. It also seems very predominate on Googles search results pages. I have found a work around, but I'd prefer not to use it mainly because its possibly the dumbest thing I have ever personally seen. (The work around was to disable visual themes on buttons, which takes away the entire point in having a visual style IMO on XP.) I would like to know if anyone else is having this issue and if they know another work around for it. If so, post here. PS: I have also made a bug report to Microsoft talking about it. However, I highly doubt they would take it seriously because I have a PII 366 (I took IE7 off of my desktop and my laptops because of this issue and have moved over to FireFox.)
  18. Looks very interesting, I'm all for it to test. (I'll have some free time in about 12 days or so.
  19. I'm starting to beleive its fake, if the air was coming out like that, wouldn't it have a transition between colors? Kinda white at the beginning and darker at the edges? The reason im saying this, is because air does cool down fairly quickly (as does methane )
  20. What is it with these "Why use xxxx?" threads? We've had too many of these already and the same points get repeated over and over, all these threads seem to do is benefit users who want to increase their postcounts. lol, so true I use whatever I need wherever I need. Windows 98 was alright for its tme, but if your going to buy a brand new computer, go with XP or Vista. Then at least your system is running the OS it was meant to be using. (I know I'm using XP on a 7 year old laptop, but it works better than 98 does. If that isn't saying something, then I don't know what is)

    Drivers

I think it would work just fine, as long as you don't remove the base part of the OS that it relies on for the driver. I've been thinking of trying this. Maybe this weekend coming up.
  22. Also, theres a difference between Moving it and Copying it. Make sure you have it set to move the email rather than copy it. Hope that helps. (Welcome to the forums! )
  23. lol, my school has a few XP machines, but they are for the "privileged and gifted" children. Makes me sick to be honest. Us average people should be allowed to use them. Just because I get a %85 in science and the gifted kid gets %90, that makes him a better candidate to use an XP based machine?
  24. You can enable the boot screen, but that one feature won't cause me to convert to Vista. I'm a die hard XP fan to be honest, I just prefer the look, speed and usability. Trust me, I will be sticking with XP for a long time to come.
