  1. Spelling mistakes or not, I still give major thanks to Nuhi for his work on this software. As with everyone though, mistakes are common, so we shouldn't really worry about it (Trying not to be rude to either side here). As for the differences in the words, ie) "Color" vs. "Colour". I prefer the American way of spelling them (and I am Canadian ). If you pronounce the word with the extra "U" in it, it can sound like "Cul - our", which is not right. It should be pronounced "Cul - er". My english teacher gets irritated with me when I use the American way of spelling words such as these (my grade 9/10 teacher didn't care, infact, he thought the same as me). Either way, the word is correct, as both are "official" if you will. Mistakes such as "of" instead of "off" are very common as they can be overlooked so easily. Especially in word documents that have a spell checker because both words are infact, the correct spelling. Which is why I pick up so easily on "you" instead of "your" or, "are" instead of "our". Does it bother me? Yes, of coarse. But do I care? No, because its human nature. However, to end my long winded post, a thanks to Nuhi for this great free software.
  2. Well, I will test this to see if it will work with the Latitude CPi Thanks IcemanND! Edit: It appears as though I may not need it any longer. The battery seems to be reading correctly now (I'm not going to hold my breath on it as its at 53% now).
  3. I already searched on DELL's website to no avail. They only had a recal program for the Inspiron 3000/7000/7500. That was all I could find anyway, I'll keep looking. Thanks anyway
  4. I just re-read your post, do you happen to still have that software, or maybe know where I could get my hands on it? It looks as though this battery may not be able to be recalibrated by charging/killing it. I turned it on this morning, it said 100%, but it dropped to 9% in 20 minutes I still have a good battery that gives me 2 and a half + hours, but I'd like to have 2 batteries.
  5. Yah, this method doesn't work on all batteries, my dad has a Toshiba A10 laptop that has gone through 3 batteries already (company computer, not ours lol) and this method hasnt worked for any of those batteries. Thank you so much for posting that, I had been looking for that program. I had this software a while ago and forgot where I had gotten it. I have read that actually Anyway, this battery I just got for my Latitude CPi is started to work better. Sometimes what happens too, is because they haven't been in use very much or haven't been used for a long time, you can kind of revive them and make them work fairly well again. So far, I have it charging slowly (the way it should be) and it's lasting for about 2 hours now (up a half hour from the first rundown). Thanks for the replies this far guys
  6. Those are good tips for saving battery, but this recalibration method usually can help you gain some extra run time on top of those tips you posted
  7. I havent had that problem, and I have repaired many laptop batteries, which all work just fine too
  8. I usually will leave my computer plugged in over night to fully charge the batteries. In the morning, the computer is always as cold as the room, so it's not generating any heat to damage the battery (Heat is generally bad for a Li-Ion battery, but cold above 32'f is ok). The batteries that die young (ie, 1 year or less), usually have something wrong with them in the first place, and they never give the full charge (even when new). And never leave a laptop inside a vehicle in direct sunlight, that is just asking for trouble (batteries die and other things can happen). Also, it usually means theifs can see it and will break in to take it.
  9. Boot off of your Windows XP Cd and when it gets to the format a disk part, delete the partition, then create 2 new ones that are 100gb each (100000mb).
  10. Well, I'm still working on this new battery I got, and I just got 1 hour and 45 minutes from it, then it died. So I'm hoping I can get it to go a bit longer after a few more charges. However, I think that maybe theres 1 or 2 cells in the pack that are dead. I know how these specific batteries work because I have repaired 2 or 3 of them by putting new cells in them. The batteries are 8 cells in total, and there are 4 packs of 2 wired in paralell to acheive 14.4/14.8 volts (depends on model number). Anyway, when one cell dies, the other cell in paralell to it takes on the load of running the computer though 1 battery instead of 2, so the current draw on it is much higher than before and this kills the battery faster (total life cycle's and a full charge). So what I'm thinking with this battery, is the top half (above 50%) is still OK, but below 50% there is one cell either dead or dieing. So, if thats the case, I'll just have to keep my eye open for another battery. I got this one free anyway
  11. And what does that have to do with anything? It's like saying "I don't know how to drive a Swedish car, maybe one from the States will work." No no, it's gotta be hardware related. My guess would be the same that DL. said, either the PSU or some other hardware. Try disconnecting everything except the essentials. I know it's a lot of work, but then again you want your computer up and working, right? This is a forum, people offer their help to get something working for someone. I offered this piece of information (same as someone else posted about not installing a specific piece of software). From experience, I have had troubles with certain OS's on certain Motherboard/cpu combinations. Just trying another OS could rule out a hardware problem, or maybe prove that there is. It simply rules out software or hardware. Therefore, its worth a shot. He has already done that. Ok, sorry for posting that. I didn't have time to read through the entire post.
  12. Give a Linux distro a shot (it's free) I recomend Ubuntu.
  13. I'm very amazed your having this problem. So I would like to say one thing. Try a different OS perhaps? If that doesn't work, I would assume you have a defective motherboard. It's to do with power settings, I'm sure of it. I don't know if its already been suggested (I received well over 20 emails this morning about this topic ) but try resetting BIOS defaults or best performance defaults. It might point you in the right direction.
  14. I just recently got a battery for my laptop (free) and I've noticed that it doesn't last nearly as long as my 3000 MaH battery for this laptop (I get about 3 - 3.5 hours depending on usage out of it). This new battery is 3800MaH and should last about 3.5 - 4 hours based on how much more capacity the battery has right? Wrong, this battery only lasts for about an hour and a half. Now, I have decided to recalibrate the battery. That means, turning off all power management options and running the computer untill it just shuts off, not suspends or hibernates as this defeats the purpose. I have done that with this battery once already and got an hour and a half out of it (it was roughly 45 minutes before it got to 8%, yes it ran for 45 extra minutes after dropping below 8%) But, even after doing this, the battery meter still drops very quickly from about 75% to 8%. Anyway, that's besides the point. I wanted to see how many people think a recalibration is a good thing, and how many think its a bad thing. I'm going to say its a good thing, because, Li-Ion Batteries do suffer from the memory effect (From what I have seen, its purely experience). After cycles of charging them up from 75% to 100%, they eventually only last about 40% of their total capacity. So, running the computers until they just shut off, really does help fix the calibration in the battery. I have taken a battery from lasting 30 minutes up to 3.5 hours. Also, some people say that deep discharging the battery isn't good for it, this may be true, but if you have to do it once or twice to get the battery back into calibration, whats 1 or 2 out of the projected 500 cycles it can handle? Anyway, let's see what you guys think. I think it works, just on some batteries though. I've only ever had 1 battery die on me for laptop/notebook computers. Thats out of about 10 I have had in the past.
  15. Or he could have researched it. Good luck on getting this guy though. I know how bad this can be, a friend of mine lost quite a bit through a scam similar to this.
  16. All caps is annoying, so I hope you were just joking man
  17. I know I had this same problem on my home pc a while back. It turned out to be a power issue, the APM/ACPI was messed up, and everytime I shut it down, it would take a long time, then it would just reboot instead of shutting down and powering off. Another thing to check would be to make sure your drivers are loaded properly. One more question, what kind of PC are you running XP SP2 on? ie) specifications on the system.
  18. I've heard a rumor going around that someone was working on an add-on for this (shhh, don't tell anyone )
  19. The iPod Video with 30Gb is about the smallest you can get right now with a Hard drive, unless you want a flash drive, which the biggest you can get is 8Gb. (iPod Nano 2nd Generation with 8GB - Black only) I'm thinking of getting one this summer, but I really don't know. I'm not really happy with my iPod Nano 1st Generation. It's really nice looking, but the functionality leaves a lot to be desired. That and the amplifier in it is terrible. It barely has enough power for the headphones I use with my Creative Zen Nano (note the name ) The treble is really nice, but theres almost no bass.\ I don't know about the iPod video though, perhaps it has a better amplifier in it?
  20. Vastly depends on which iPod you plan on using. Regardless though, there are other methods, ie) an FM transmitter or a cassette adapter. These two methods will work with anything that has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. There are some iPod specific ways, ie) an adapter that allows you to use the iPod controls through the controls of your vehicle, however, I don't beleive these work with the Nano/Shuffle models.
  21. Foxhound, I know you've gotten your iPod to work, but you might be interested in this software as it may just work on Win98. Anyway, I've been looking for an iTunes replacement, and I have found a really good program to put music on the iPod with out it. I'm currently using it on my PII 366 laptop (WinXP though) and the software says it won't work with Win98, however the developer said there has been some interest in porting it to 98, so that could be a good thing for some of us (I might be putting Win98 on my PII 366 laptop soon). Anyway, the software is called vPod, and is available here: http://www.vonnieda.org/vPod/
  22. RockBox firmware is awsome. It works very well, and it includes drag and drop. Glad you got your iPod working FoxHound @ LLXX, I've noticed the same thing. A standard MP3 player (Ie. Creative, Sandisk, generic mp3 player) are much better, not just for drag and drop, but in sound quality too. The iPod has almost no bass response (vastly depending on headphones) but people buy it mainly because of the advertizing, but the reason I got my iPod was because it was the cheapest 4gb flash mp3 player I could find at the time. I would not want a Hard Drive player because its moving parts/can get damaged easier than a flash disk. Thats why I got mine. I like my iPod, but I also like my Creative MP3 player. Once again, FoxHound, glad you got it working
  23. I have the same problem on Tripod. Try making a redirect HTML file, like this: <html> <head> <title>YOUR OWN TITLE</title> <meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="5; URL=YOUR OWN LINK HERE"> </head> </html> <p>Downloading the file "YOUR OWN FILE NAME, YOU CAN REMOVE QUOTES HERE", please wait... <br> <br>if download does not begin within 5 seconds or you are using Windows XP SP2, click <a href="PUT YOUR OWN LINK HERE, LEAVE QUOTES">here</a> When you have put in the neccessary links and info in the above HTML file, just link to that, and it will automatically redirect the client to the file. That should be all it was. They don't like direct linking, so you link to your own page and then they download from there. Hope this helps.
