well miranda im works on 98se, msn7 doesn work? but msn 5 works fine on nt4 last time i checked a few months ago, maybe is hould check again

i was thinking the cause was the motherboard, since i have that processor i could get a motherboard without a cpu maybe

well the thing about 98se2me by mdgx on this forum is that 98se and me are of the same windows line where as xp is part of the nt line. the problem isnt fooling the installer to install that can be done fairly easy it is the apis that are important and they have to be implemented

i cant see and damage to anything on the board, including the capacitors. the jumper that i thought was just meant to clear the cmos is more special then i thought its meant to rewrite the bios. it looks like all other p4 sockets that ive seen so i assume its the 478

cpu is harder to test, id have to get another board or something, the person who i got the pc from said that it was working untill there was some brown smell and then it started freezing at the bios splash screen

i only use a mouse but i dont consider laptops as real computers anyway so i dont like the trackpad thingos and stuff

i found out the ram is fine, so i think it is maybe a mobo problem any more suggestions?

though its not the best solution because it isnt free and it has to run at startup

you have to install msi installer 2 to get msi files on 9x but it works fine

the full version of quicktime has always been horible, thats why i only use quicktime alternative and vlc, theres only so long before you have to kill qttask.exe

you could always use file manager from nt4, though that may be a little too old for you

the only thing on the case i think might have been an id which you tell ms about if you have a problem. its so nice not to worry about cdkeys even better when you dont have to worry about putting in the cd

well hp could just make you agree that they are old and stuff just like matrox does with their old drivers

weird advise, doesnt seem to have helped, oh and the keyboard has never worked, i got some more ram from someone but the pc didnt even display anything when i put it in so im guessing the board doesnt like double sided ram

i agree its not needed really, its just be say its needed, people say you should always have at least explorer and systray running

well i found some details about the mobo it is apparently a ibm netvista 8305-21a the ram does look abit sus from the label

it probably doesnt use systray for the icon because you can still see icons down there without systray.exe, systray.exe only displays the windows related stuff

displays the sound icon, and the usb icon thats about it

the dell ones had a usb mouse driver i think, but they dont seem to work to well on terminal server

tried clearing the cmos with the jumper, and taking the battery out for a few minutes and didnt do anything, i cant see how im going to update the bios, because it hasnt like detected stuff because its just sitting at the bios splash saying ibm

i got this mobo which is an IBM Netvista with a P4 2Ghz CPU 256MB RAM when i turn it on it displays the splash for the bios saying IBM and thats it. im only using the bare components no fancy cards or drives or anything. it seems to be working generally i think, the nic works, agp works, it detects if the ram isnt there not sure whats wrong so i posted here

i never said it was perfect i just siad that there wasnt much wrong with it, it depends what you want on a computer anyway 9x supports domains, you can use poledit to write polices, its just xp and vista home that doesnt support it even though wfw 3.11 could connect to a domain but use what you want not up to me

bblean runs on 9x with kernelex as well
