  1. DUDE! Why are you misinforming, especially on an OLD topic? See this - you are wrong on a number of levels (see all of the links) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/149769-questions-regarding-mac-os-x-updates/
  2. ? This says otherwise about PowerPC.http://appleinsider.com/articles/08/06/11/official_mac_os_x_snow_leopard_doesnt_support_powerpc_macs I believe they now use Intel Processors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Snow_Leopard Also see this for OS-X Versions - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X This confirms that it's an Intel Processor and indicates "free upgrade" to later releases (up to v10.9 "Maverick") - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Errr, I wouldn't depend on that "perfect the way it is", otherwise these Security Updates wouldn't be indicated. http://support.apple.com/downloads/#macosx106 This must be the "smaller" one you mentioned - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1343 which also has a link to "fixed security updates" This must be the "larger" one - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1349 also having the same link. The -difference- between them is told right there in the "system requirements" of each. The small one -requires- that 10.6.5 be installed (a prerequisite), the large one covers v10.6 thru v10.6.5 inclusive. JFYI, Googling indicates that there is an even -later- update to v10.6.8. http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1399
  3. ...and a Follow-Up - betting that your Restore (Recovery) Partition will no longer function because you have already wiped the Vendor-Specific MBR code, unless you can find a method of recreating it -or- knowing a method of utilizing the Restore Partition depending on the Image Type made by the Vendor. How odd, seeing as how it has the D-RecoveryPartition. edit - typos.
  4. The Mediafire file's Script Code is exactly (AFAICT) the same as the UDC Script Code, so you should be fine using it. I believe -X- was just trying to help in that one instance. The link to my post "basically" indicates you -also- should/could use the additional other two. That's the intent of the "Needed for Windows Update". JFYI P.S. - I had thought of "stripping" the WUA Code and uploading myself (with instructions about getting the three programs), but didn't want to step on -X-'s toes. I do believe the "last version" of the Script (before -X- incorporated it in UDC) is still here on MSFN. Five pages of reading material - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/157027-windows-update-agent-which-version-do-you-have/ Maybe the Script part of the Mediafire Link could be put in a Last Post there along with "where to get the 3 programs" and have done with it, forever pointing folks to it. Side note - Member "pigdrive" seems to have disappeared. Wonder if it worked for them too?
  5. Installation was in this order, correct? 1 - XP from Bootable CD 2 - Vista from Bootable DVD 3 - Netrunner from Bootable CD/DVD None of which will "understand" time zones, only what's on the CD/DVD at the time of Build, wherever it was "built, and in the case of Windows will be "specifically" set using (usually) GMT/UTC as basis and a Time Zone Offset. The one on "C-drive" (probably) came from the WinPE (within BOOT.WIM) and the one on the "F-drive" undoubtedly came from the INSTALL.WIM. A Binary Compare will probably reveal they're exactly the same. Followup - bpalone just suggested something (before I posted). I might suggest that you get the whole front of the MBR/"Reserved" (sectors 0-62) since Netrunner "could" be using several sectors, and even made a "backup" of the original (Vista, since it was installed second) somewhere.
  6. Errm... Ghost will do "funny things" to Sector 62, so maybe "some other" cloning software does it too? http://www.forensickb.com/2008/03/ghost-part-deux-how-to-detect-its-use.html JFYI, jaclaz. ( x54??? )
  7. (Ahem....) This is where this very Topic is - http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/8-windows-9x-me/ It has a "stickie" here - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/95815-important-stickified-pinned-959898-seme-topics/ Inside that "stickie" is a whole gaggle of relevant links. BTW, want a more specific search on MSFN? Google something "another thing" site:msfn.orgHTH
  8. ??? Try this (Language Interface Packs or LIP) - http://www.microsoft.com/oem/en/installation/downloads/Pages/windows_7_language_interface_packs.aspx You'll probably have to sign up to be an OEM... HOWEVER, there also appears to be this - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/language-packs#lptabs=win7 The other alternative is the MUI (Multilanguage User Interface, Enterprise/Ultimate Only) - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2483139 (note - see previous "HOWEVER" link) You can find Direct Links. Google "windows 7" "language packs"I have -no clue- about a "cab" file. You'll also find a wealth of information about them -and- the difference between them. BTW, did you check this Topic? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/142037-where-to-download-win7-language-packs-for-integration/ edit - Huh! The latest WUD Post-SP1 ULZ-file and a link to WUD LanguagePack ULZ right on MSFN. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/139877-post-sp1-updates-for-windows-7-updated-14012014/
  9. Interjection - Thos SDRAM also came in PC-133 as well as PC-100. I have 4x256mb in this old HP Dual-PIII Slot1 (SECC-2) (2x550mhz). It will take the maximum CPU as well. In addition, I have a 512mb PC-100 in a (wierd) Gateway w/Celeron, so YES they DO exist. If you note TWO things of interets in the User Guide, it DOES have a 133mhz FSB setting, in addition to the Wiki link specifically stating that it's (440BX) supported (kind of). Here are the PIII that can more than likely be utilized, in ADDITION to (if you can find them) PC-133 RAM sticks, noting that you can use them with a 100mhz FSB (what I have) but they run at the "slower" bus speed. You MUST use PC-133 with a n*133 CPU (if you can find one). http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/TYPE-Pentium%20III%20%28Coppermine%29.html Conclusion - You can go all the way up to a 1g CPU with up to 1g RAM. Sadly, there IS a stipulation (also documented in the User Manual) noted in the Wiki.
  10. Looks really U.S. Government-y. Top Secret Clearance? In Virginia, home of Washington D.C./FBI/CIA/NSA/DHS, etc etc...
  11. Hmmm... 1 - As stated, Real RAM is faster in I/O than USB 2 - USB Flash Drives are seen Removable - it would have to have the ability to be seen as a Disk and not Flash - very few have the ability to "flip the bit" - I have ONE 1gb that I successfully changed. 3 - Ram is getting pretty cheap nowadays. If you read those Stickies you can see that you can limit the PageFile and use RAM instead - or- use RAM-Drive for the PageFile. Read the Stickies - that's why they got "Stuck". HTH
  12. MSFN has been having "problems". The Administrator account is not Activated by Default - you have to Activate it. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/ It won't "exist" until then. 2K/XP/2K3, on the other hand will -always- "activate" YOU as the Administrator if you -don't- specify any other account. As soon as you -do- create another Account - POOF- the Administrator disappears from Welcome. This is all "by design". (Unattend.xml/WINNT.SIF) IOW, -when- you Define a User-As-Administrator on (e.g.) Win7 and press F8 it -still- won't "physically" exist until you Activate it (does -not- show) just like the infamous "Guest" account by default being Disabled in XP. Call it a "new wrinkle"... Did you look at -my- XML? It has a User-in-Admin-group account and works fine. No Admin Account exists under those conditions. Drive Letter Assignments still work the way they always did on an NT-type system. Win9x also has its "quirks". In your situation, you're having to "force" it to "not see" the other ones so the Assignments will work for -you-. Note what I had to do in -my- XML (I had said that) for using USB/ISO as the Install Media (hence the WARNING I had given). HTH edit - Reiterating - "Public" on Vista/Win7 is the "old" "All Users". My previous post (first link) shows that relationship.
  13. My .02cents - May be, but it seems the -only- way of getting any info about my family. I guess they forgot what a telephone was for. Yes, I also have an Account (2 actually, because # of Song Limits) at MySpace - used specifically to allow -anyone- to listen to the JusTus songs. Twitter is for Political Stupidity and I get a -lot- of news that MSM doesn't report, due to MSM cherry-picking. That is all and refuse to get into said TwitterVerse subjects.
  14. Only in Vista and Windows 7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReadyBoost Reading on, it specifically states that using Real RAM is much faster. Have you browsed this list of Topics? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/95815-important-stickified-pinned-959898-seme-topics/ This one in particular - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/118097-day-to-day-running-win-9xme-with-more-than-1-gib-ram/ ReadyBoost is kind of pointless on such a "small footprint" OS. Win2K and above are already in good shape. USB Sticks are not really as fast as Real Ram (think Transfer Rate un a USB Port). HTH
  15. Not necessarily O/T - I had menntioned KernelEX (versions are -ONLY good for Win98+ and Win2k to run XP stuff on them). Seems there isn't a version for NT4. As I said "new ground". In addition, I found a reference to 'SHFolder.dll' that may be doing the actuall Call to "shell32.dll". See this as a reference to said Function - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb762181(v=vs.85).aspx I will NOT swear to this but I THINK (probably wrongly) that Kex "redirects" calls "elsewhere"? It would be really nice to get the "call sequence" as suggested above... (Just assisting in finding references etc since I have no time to work w/NT4 ATM... sorry...) edit - FWIW, first VideoLan link in my prior post says by a VLC DEVELOPER in response to you!!! I think you may be barking up the wrong tree. Can't seem to insert AFTER the following quote, so here you go - scroll down to A2 - definitely the WRONG TREE! http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms954149.aspx IOW, replacing/"patching" SHELL32.DLL will NOT fix it!
  16. To keep this Topic "connected" - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170603-flash-9-not-working-on-nt-40-consolidated-thread/ You're going to have to consider the -possibility- that not many people bothered with NT4 since Win2K came out, the same as Win95 kind of got left alone in lieu of Win98/98SE/ME. In both cases, the latter "older" OS appeared to be more stable. Also note the Kex Project. LoneCrusader has done extensive work on Win95OSR2.x (for personal reasons). There's also a Topic on what Software works on 98SE - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/105936-last-versions-of-software-for-windows-98se/ Generally speaking Win2K is a Pre-Cursor to XP, so it's possible (in some cases) to "trick" 2K into using XP stuff, same as (sometimes) possible to install Drivers from Win7/8 into Vista (and vice-versa). You may be treading on New Ground. (Comments above are JFYI and AFAIK...) It appears that you've been trying (in all of your started and commented-in Topics that you -want- to install Newer(ish) Software on an OS that maybe.just.won't.do.it... edit - REALLY, dude??? https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=47897 edit2 - This "claims" 0.9.x/1.0.x - https://wiki.videolan.org/VSG:Usage:Version/ Still looking for HOW it worked... Followup - here you are again... https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=116117 This guy must be mistaken - V4 is right there in IE4SHLNT.CAB. There must be some kind of "tricK" someone used and isn't telling. Edit3 - this is "odd" information (with your particular message) - http://www.keil.com/support/docs/2863.htm (err, um NO! this is for SPECIALfolderpath)
  17. Post #5, Comment #1 - all of this time, you don't think I did that? Guess you didn't notice that I got a RUNNING Win7 installed -and- the fact that they "register" in the OS as "functional" but are PHYSICALLY IGNORED (nothing plugged in is "found")! In addition, I SPECIFICALLY STATED that INCLUDED the NIC Connector ("cable unplugged"). Explain that one... The ONLY things I haven't done is pull the MoBo and bench-test -or- update the BIOS. If you were to (exhaustively, I might add) do a WWW Search (Bing, Google, Yahoo, whatever) you'll note that inevitably the MoBo's were RMA'd/Replaced. This one is out of warranty. Your suggestion is a bit obvious - been there, done that, changed (new) battery, Clear CMOS Jumper, Remover Battery, let sit, Put in battery, let sit, Plug in/Out, etc etc. Thanks anyway... @ All/Anyone - the BIOS Update is to do a V5.x to a v6.x and the Document states this - <snip> This Mobo is listed as CSB. My question - What does (it should be obvious, but...) what I hi-lited mean? Side note/query - CSB=”Customer Solution Board” (?) Not that any of this matters - I'm gonna kill the BIOS anyway, seeing as how said owner has bypassed the "replace MoBo" from eBay so why should I pull it out? Kill entirely, button it up, give it back no-charge. TIRED of it -and- it uses up my limited space -and- side-tracks from my own projects.
  18. Perhaps this will (partially) help understanding (of course you probably already know) - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/6083.windows-xp-folders-and-locations-vs-windows-7-and-vista.aspx All 2K/XP/2K3 User-type Folders have a corresponding "set" of folders in Vista/7/8 (only assuming 8 as I don't have it). When Explorer is opened instead of immediately going to "My Documents" it goes to "Libraries" which includes BOTH the User's -and- the Public (corresponding to "All Users") with -all- associated Junctions. "Default" is still "Default" and you must already know its purpose (same as XP). As a follow-up, here is a Topic I participated in with a fully functional FULLY Unattended XML (post #6) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170809-multiple-windows-7-versions-on-same-iso-unattended-product-key/ Note the stipulation is that I had to use "Diskpart Clean" before it would correctly function -and- I had hard-coded a couple of Drive Letters in it for -my- particular use/situation/hardware. Yes, I'm perfectly aware that it uses USB and the ISO. Here is the subject Topic that was for -me only- (see Post #21)... http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163854-hp-g43-mobo-nops2usb-kbdmouse-nodetect/ HTH Side note - Jeez, you ARE one touchy person. Jaclaz has a personality that you really should accept, as well as everyone else having a unique one (including you). GET OVER IT, please. Post #7, Post #9, and Post #15... Caring/Helping? (note the question mark of which he repeatedly used.) REQUEST - This is YOUR Topic, so how about you actually putting the EXACT PROCEDURE -and- TOOLS -and- ANY MODS (including the XML, with any Real Keys X'd out, of course) for the benefit of others. Don't be selfish.
  19. Yeah... NO! Depends on how it was set up. I have mine set up with Google to delete on Successful Download. I use Outlook Express (default XP/2K3 supplied with IE6) and at Gmail, for the given Account, checked that little box. Hence the NO! that they may NOT match. BTW, PST NotNecessarily= WhatServerHas In addition, you're referring to a Communications Protocol (not causing the "fault" you have). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Message_Access_Protocol
  20. Post #2 above (second link) then Post #2 within. Already suggested. But to reiterate...
  21. @RacerBG - Heh, you didn't specify it was the Win7 and -implied- it was applicable to XP. BTW, you ARE aware of the folder "SoftwareDistribution" of which MS uses (fror the Windows/Microsoft Update Websites) to download to? It kind of "doubles" the space used by the Updates. The contents of the folder can be safeley deleted and is sometimes necessary (AFAIK) to "fix" WU/MU. In addition, -if- you manually find and download the Full Fix Installers, there -is- a method of Updating that precludes any chance of "uninstalling" them -but- if space is -really- a consideration, then it's not unlike "slipstreaming" them. Don't have a running Win7 ATM, but I believe the FolderName is the same - x:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads|<a lot of downloaded and totally unnecessary stuff> Turn OFF AutoUpdates and ENSURE that none a "Pending" (by rebooting a couple of times) before deleting. (Yeah, O/T, but thought I'd clarify a misconception.)
  22. If you have actually been able to install XP on it, you could maybe run CPUz/CPUid on it -or- Belarc (all free). Odd that the discs didn't say the OEM.
  23. STOP RIGHT THERE! Can you clarify that? I never said that XP can't do it, since many on MSFN have already accomplished "moving" a number of files/folders. I did not (necessarily) say Win7 is incapable, just that (seemingly) it can't be done via Unattended. Your rgument with both me and jaclaz (re "different beasts") is the misundertanding you have about "similarities" in the Install Sequence and Methods. They are absolutely different. Also, bear in mind that the whole "unattended" thing was never meant for the "general user" but for Corporate (read that as "remote install/upgrade") Installs and OEM Installs. I have (above) provided (looks like) two different "methods" that (seemingly) work, the first being to (during Audit Mode) alter the (seemingly) "generated" UNATTEND.XML (in the "Panther" directory), the second using the "preferred" method (with the KB link inside the link). Post #3 - explaining why they are "different beasts" (re - junctions and not "real"). Post #9 - with a link to the aforementioned (linked) KB. Post #13 - specifically states "try". Post #15 - specifically saying (quite truly) "it wouldn't be the first (nor the last) time that MS originated info is unclear, incomplete, misleading or plainly wrong." Post #20 - specifically states " I HAVE NOT TESTED THIS OR USED THIS METHOD IN THREE YEARS." This appears to be the "REG Hack" mentioned in said link (with the KB link inside). Post #25 - Only explaining that it's at the "primitive" level and suggesting that you will have to put on a "Schoolboy Hat" and stating specifically how much effort I placed in getting a "simple Fully Unattended" to work. Post #26 - It appears that you assumed I said it couldn't be done by my simple phrase about the "(old) beast" then proceed to harangue jaclaz (in Post #29) after he agreed, while saying that you would "look into" the links provided in Post #28. Post #30 (jaclaz) also used the term "seemingly". My own note - it seemingly appears that to put it into a SubFolder won't seemingly work. P.S. Your "solution" has been on MSFN for a long time as well as elsewhere. Nothing new... What is new is your attempt to do what MS "implies" can't be done, which the aforementioned Link also says. Who knows what MS did to "break" this in Vista and Up except the fact that "junctions" are now used, as I specifically sated when suggesting you observe close the behavior of said folders. Seemingly to accomplish this you would, perforce, need to do this after the OS is "almost" installed, since "SETUP" does NOT understand it and/or REFUSES to do it on anything OTHER than a ROOT Directory. That is all. Please report back if you actually find out how to do the seemingly impossible. Junctions (seemingly only OS-utilized after 2K/XP/2K3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_junction_point Google microsoft windows junctionsthe "thing" that has you hung up.
  24. Hmmm... This http://icgeeks.org/windows-xp-fixed-the-bug-in-the-process-svchost-exe-using-100-cpu/ (read it) implies that this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2914368 may have something to do with it? It's the -only- fix listed for this period.
  25. How did you get rid of it? Accidental double-topic? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170851-deleted-ie-6-lost-some-functionality-in-media-player/
