  1. @jaclaz - My comment was simply to point out that the above is sheer nonsense. The comment above used "vehicle" as an example then continued with "own business". My comment was to show that's absilute BS, since I know from direct experience. I am a Combo Autobody+Painter with NO CERTIFICATION and can NOT either get a job OR start my own business without it/them. I've been scrounging for extra income (a job here, a job there) since 1999. First question - "Are you CERTIFIED?" Certification (IMHO) means certainly what you said (you simply clarified), BUT when I was doing IT work (Systems Maintenance) I actually had a guy with a Masters that kmew squat from beans beceuse they had no Real Life Experience (your ticked examples above to drive some points home). "Mr. Opinionated" has been running around MSFN to find something to post on with absolutely no helpful information. Go ahead and do a search on that. Yes, DO get Certified and get some experience under your belt along with surrounding yourself with EXPERIENCED and KNOWLEDGABLE people. NO you CAN NOT open your own PC Repair/Programmer/WebsiteBuilder business without training and that "stupid piece of paper", including that "useless H.S. Diploma"! Reminder, jaclaz, I'm also a U.S.N. Certified E.T. and F.T.B., along with a Degree - now I scrounge for Automobile jobs.
  2. Or ICAR Certified to paint a car at an autobody repair shop that Insurance Companies won't deal with UNLESS said shop has Certified personnel, even if it's a One Man Shop, ROTS? Your assertion is, again, an -opinion- and not a -fact-. "Certified" means "I have been trained and I know what I'm doing, so you can trust me to do a good job", even if it's your -own- business. IOW, did you Graduate and have a Diploma that proves you know the 3-R's? If the answer is -no- then there is "No Soup For You".
  3. Thx, jaclaz for the links. Interesting (to say the least) reading. What surprises me (and this is where I agree with you wholeheartedly) tha MS, having had the contract with the good folks at IBM to develop DOS didn't have the sense to have learned some things from the IBM Mainframe Operating Systems and Applications. Strangely, Apple (the MS offshoot) used the same IBM-nonsensicle method of rolling out / tracking Fixes. Can you say backwards compatible reentrant modules? It appears that MS' point of view was "work around our problem this way and BTW get more hardware". (Apologies for also chiming in O/T but that article knocked me on the floor.) Side notes - I believe you meant SHELL32.DLL->SHELL32.NT4 (since this is an NT4 problem). And thx for the "wrapper" (I call it an "intercept" / "interface"). -Not yet tested!-
  4. Holy (expletive here)!!!! Norton "Parental Control" (aka "Connect Safe"?) is now "installed" in Belkin Routers? AC1200DB, AC1800DB, N300, (more maybe...) The latest Overkill for folks that don't know how to set up the In-PC Network. Not a "false positive", so pointless to "report" it. Ye olde Norton Internet Security has that in it too. You -may- be able to use that -if- you have kids and correctly set it up (PG13/pr0n "blocker"), otherwise -turn it off-. It has nothing to do with the project at hand. HTH
  5. IE6 6.0.3790.3759 - no problems. As was stated (google what I gave) it -appears- that only IE8 suffers the affliction. I'll gladly fire up my XP and/or 98SE (both having IE6) and do another run as proof-testing. Heck, I'll install IE7 on the XP as well if you wish. HTH
  6. (sigh...) I'm no longer going to respond -except- for this... NO, AGAIN, I did NOT say "download the WAIK". In that Topic, did you NOT see the attachement? It is a SPECIAL PROGRAM that DIRECTLY ATTACHES to MS' ISO "image" ON THEIR SERVER and -extracts- (but I repeat myself) ONLY the "set" of files DIRECTLY OFF MICROSOFT! (LEGAL LEGAL LEGAL!) DUH!!! I already stated that - TWICE! VERY FIRST POST! Pay attention!re - Chipset Drivers - INSTALL THE LATEST SUPPORTED (obvious as all heck!) BEFORE the... re - Video Driver - I REPEAT! Try an OLDER version! (Didn't read any of the links, did you?) (Being obstinate and argumentative again, I see...) HTH clarify things a bit. Have fun...
  7. ? This (kind of) corresponds to what jaclaz said / linked to - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/how-to-uninstall-the-bing-desktop/180b6d11-b2f1-485b-b756-eca1ff96d468 Note that I'm not prepared to "wipe out" my Win7 with this junkware quite yet to "test" this out.
  8. Thank you, Mr. Opinionated for your astute observations here on MSFN. Keep them coming!
  9. ...and a Follow-Up - Lucky you! I may very well have an "original" HP MBR -CODE- if you ever need it, barring my being banned, croak, or get sent to an insane asylum. FYI - Beware! Using -any- HP Recover Software within the Running XP will proably -not- work as your RecoveryParition is in a different location. Also, -if- it even worked then the MBR -CODE- could very well be overwritten with HP's "special" Code. Jaclaz is, indeed, leading you in the correct direction. I will now bow out. Good luck.
  10. 1 - YES, It "connects" to the ISO and "gets the wholes-shebang! Just did it for the Win7 Set and it took all of about ten seconds for the AMD64, IA64, and X86 - including the "related" files. BOOM! You didn't even TRY it did you? 2 - No, it is NOT in WinToolkit! I gave you the dang link! AT that link is ANOTHER Link! NOT INCLUDED! 3 - That SPECIFIC name "DISM Installer_v105" is STRICTLY WAREZ!!!! 4 - So what? You MUST have gotten a "repackaged" version! SoftPedia has a Download TOO and it does NOT contain DISM! 5 - USB2/3 On-Board - Nothing to do with AHCI, BUT Chipset Drivers should ALWAYS be included, -if- the may be "newer". Not having such a MoBo, I have -no clue-! 6 - Video - Problematic - The link given "claims" 4600, -however- just looking for "hd 4000" on Intel website clearly shows version "14.51.11.5437". Note that using that self-same site yields the same (when listing ALL of them) and the one you gave said "Not to attract dissatisfied users of a particular dysfunction wrath, Intel, however, prefers to keep this support GPU Haswell Windows XP as "confidential" for the general public and indicates that it is not expected to formalize. No support will, in addition, brought traditional users trying experience." Reference this (which corresponds to with I just said) http://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=26&v_code=379 HTH edit - look also here (a link further down to "Station Drivers") https://communities.intel.com/thread/38342
  11. So, the Video Driver you installed was from Intel? I didn't say you needed WAIK - did you look at the MSFN link I gave? Said "method" allows extraction directly from the MS files. Point of interest #1 - MSFN is based in USA, WinCert is based in Germany (AFAICT, with a tracert) - different rules apply. Saying "DISM should be legal" is fine - argue that with the U.S. Copyright Laws. Just saying... Point of interest #2 - If you have used Wintoolkit, then you should have already had DISM, correct? Why go the "torrent" route (the -only- places I seen that item)? http://www.wincert.net/forum/files/file/5-win-toolkit/ ...and ummm - it's -not- included, but separate -and- you have to be a member.
  12. IE6 < IE7 < IE8 < FF I believe they meant "using IE8 to download", hence my Google Search. It reveals IE8 has "problems" that IE9 "fixes" (re - gzip-enabled). BTW, putting the Zipped-Script link directly in "raw" IE6 "oddly" tossed me to the HTML page (a/l in my "repair install" of Srv2k3). THEN clicking the Link allowed download and looked ok. Of course, "bugs" still show up since I haven't updated it yet... (JFYI)
  13. 1 - Doubting able to "bypass" the Boot Sequence. Seemingly there is no other way unless someone has figured out how to use (e.g.) Grub4DOS to do it - AFAIK, you're still "stuck" with a "sequence', albeit via a single Loader, thus bypassing Win7. You will still (unless, again there is a "method") have to use "F8". 2 - NOW you talk about USB3. I haven't searched down your MoBo Specs, but I can tell you this - Via Chipsets have their very own Drivers that (IMHO) exceed what MS "by default" provide. Finding out if any other "newer" Drivers for XP I leave up to you. 3 - DISM Reference - "Warez" Rather than "downloading" it to see HOW it installed, you are also on your own. Apparently you are unaware that there is on MSFN a "method" of directly extracting WAIK Tools? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/156869-get-waik-tools-wo-downloading-the-huge-isos/ FYI - DISM is just a "program".
  14. HAH! Noted!
  15. (sigh...) Seems you are correct. Google gzip "internet explorer 8"
  16. Correction noted... Addendum as follows I've also noted turning off/on certain "security features" allow functioning. Google wep wpa wusb54gfor some specifics.Shall we now move on to a New Topic for this?
  17. Apologies for the "bump" again, but I felt it may be necessary to cross-post this. See my post#2. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170907-xp-freeze-on-dual-boot-with-7/ @jaclaz - please correct me if I'm wrong and (maybe) update the above fantastic sequence for posterity(?).
  18. Immediately press "F8" after selecting XP. Post#14 - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170900-will-an-xp-repair-install-mess-up-mbr/ The only item lacking in the above explanation is that the Windows7 (Vista) BCD Loading is that by selecting XP you will be "redirected" to the NTLDR, as your entry above specifically states. You could also add a TimeOut value to BOOT.INI (say 2 seconds) to allow sufficient time to press "F8". As for the mouse/keyboard, it appears to be having some "trouble" getting the USB Port to "activate". XP Drivers need updated? Uninstall DISM? DISM is a program - you need to uninstall a "package" that included DISM. In addition DISM, by itself can not be "uninstalled". It's a part of Win7/2k8r2. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd349343%28v=ws.10%29.aspx I'm looking at it right now in my Win7Pro Install. DEP (a "security feature") works in two ways - 1 - Within the BIOS 2 - Within XP (programmatically) regardless of BIOS https://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352 PAE (scroll down) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension HTH
  19. Excellent explanation! (Keep it for future questions/reference) ...bearing in mind the OEM's "special" MBR Code is now long-gone with the advent of Vista's "replacement", hence the references to that "RecoverPartition" (possibly no longer "useable").
  20. BAHAHAH! Read that thread, particularly post#95 (rationale)... Also this (post #42): In the Full UDC Script... Don't count on the Stand-Alone, which is not necessarily widely distributed, unlike the Full Script. It was largely a group effort. "One thing leads to another..." (a song in there somewhere)
  21. ...being aware that MS' Copy/Paste "passes through" your User-Temp folder before reaching the Destination (AFAIK)...
  22. FileSize=731,826 bytes EXACTLY! Your downloads are bad... DO NOT USE IT! How are you downloading? If in a Browser, WHICH Browser? (Internet Explorer has a tendency to FAIL!)
  23. Their "How to troubleshoot" KB - http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/GetArticle.aspx?docid=2cf151e5c9e04067bb4d26f4b8378095_3845.xml&pid=80&converted=0 Although I'd say, since this isn't -directly- related to the USP, maybe you should open a Topic over here - http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/21-networks-and-the-internet/ if you can't resolve it. Apparently, the one listed on Linksys is the exact one I linked to elsewhere, so your issue is more Hardware/Setup related and not a USP problem (AFAICT). HTH
  24. ? I wasn't aware that 98SESP3.x included any "drivers" other than a number of OS-Specific (e.g. Newer USB Port Drivers)? This indicates that Win98SE is ok with ANY of the "versions", so it appears to be irrelevant (last post). http://community.linksys.com/t5/Wireless-Adapters/WUSB54G-use-on-Windows-98/td-p/4659 The drivers do, however, appear to be -very- specific as to the "version" of the device - http://download.modem-help.co.uk/mfcs-L/LinkSys/WUSB54G/Drivers/ They are all there, including the 98SE ones -with- the Utility mentioned. Fair warning - you get to download only -one- per day "for free" unless you register.
