  1. @RacerBG - please don't complain if you don't follow the prerequisites. I honestly don't understand your aversions to a Fully Updated Windows 9x/NT/2K/Vista/7 OS. You've repeated this in multiple places. Please note that many fixes are specifically for preventing something from "breaking" in addition to simple security updates.
  2. As I said... Win2K3 Partition (essentially a "super" WinXP) - 20gb allocated, 2gb free and LOADED, including a Fully Updated Symantec Antivirus (you may call it "bloated" with the Definitions). Again, I call BS, since - 1 - The Initial Post spoke of Updating XP (yes, that's the subject) 2 - Follow-ups reference AntiVirus -only- (on XP, yes, that's the subject) So yes, lets -do- talk about XP... If you have 20gb+, then that's on you, regardless of your -assertions- that you don't Update Windows XP because of the space considerations. Look back at the comments -you- made and the corresponding responses. (and the -other- threads as well...) edit - And I pose this to you - you are WAAAAAY Off-Topic. Ask yourself - what's the Subject Matter of the Topic?
  3. Uh-uh, sorry. I played all heck (as I already stated elsewhere) just getting Fully Unattended to work. Does this help? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc721913(v=ws.10).aspx The "complicated" method (not shareable and not my "work") also uses a Script but doesn't utilize a Key in the XML, so the XML is not "altered on-the fly" but uses (at OOBE) a Script to detect the Edition and uses "SLMGR.VBS" to insert the key accordingly. Of course, you still have to press the button at the "Enter Product Key" screen to allow for the "Default" to be initially entered. So since you're going to "alter" the ISO, you may as well change the Method. And I won't -swear- to this but the XML in the PANTHER folder -might- already "generate" the lines. TBH, I'm relatively new to Win7 myself - I just provide "what worked" for my particular situation (linked to above).
  4. Hmmm. at least one (the TZ Cumulative Update) seems to be indicated in the -other- list. I'm not sure if all of this cross-checking is getting you anywhere. BOTH are good. Maybe you should look at the fact that -X- has "latest" list at top and "obsolete/replaced" next, -and- the "ChangeLog" is listed at the end whereas Mim0 "ChangeLog" list is side-by-side. The reason -X- does it the way he does is to easily accommodate the BAT script construction (look at it - it functions top-down). ICYMI, Kudos to -both- of you for your excellent record-keeping. edit - and in case anyone else missed it, Members collaborate with one another.
  5. GOOD! Report back when you get this functional, with somewhat of the details. BTW, the Original Solution that "works" doesn't require alteration of the DVDiso Contents other than removal of "EI.CFG". I'm -assuming- your "new" solution involves the "$OEM$" folder contents within the DVDiso? Apologies to any Author of any Software referenced herein and not credited - I use a variety of them and others and give to each and every one ( you would know who you are ).
  6. (Someone on the Board is begging for a hacker attack...)
  7. Why is this not in the "General Discussion"/"Funny Farm" section? What has it got to do with Win9x/ME other than the Call Sign? edit - but thx for the link, as I like Country.
  8. Oh, BULLsquat! 20+gb? Nonsense! FUD!!! Roughly 250mb for the Critical Updates beyond SP3. Anything else is "add-ons". IOW, PROVE it! I have -more- than the usual "junkware" installed and STILL have less than that! Please stop misleading people.
  9. ?"Every kind of Firewall"? ANY firewall is OK. Routers are (usually) Incoming Only, MS is DEFINITELY Incoming Only (AFAIK) and is a "pain" to set up the "blocks" (look into the "TCP Filtering" on you NIC), but it's a -good- thing to replace MS' with one that does Incoming+Outgoing. "Error Reporting" is kind of irrelevant (but perhaps an unnecessary Service) since it just "disturbs" you to say "NO, don't send my Crash to MS". Mine's still on and I don't worry about it - usually it's IE6 that goobers (nope, haven't "upgraded" yet). Other than that, all of the above (in some form or another). TCP Filtering...
  10. Seriously, read the STICKIES! Everything you need to know is there. Here's some additional screenshots for your edification. http://xdot.tk/nliteimages.html When you do the "4 times no" and try it but have failure, -then- come back and ask for help overcoming the "problems". Heck, we don't even know WHAT drivers you have and want to integrate and at this point don't want to know until you "do your homework".
  11. FWIW, I have to ask... did you install the "VM Additions"? Some comments I had found refer to using the 2004 Version as opposed to the 2007 Version for Win95/NT4, and a "claim" was made that you need to reboot "twice" for them to "take effect". Here is a somewhat good tutorial for VirtualPC. The author claims to have once worked for Connectix, the original creator of VPC, that MS subsequently purchased. http://www.essjae.com/virtualization/ Here is a good reference site for VirtualPC, but you'll have to "hunt around"/search (use quotes for phrase searching). http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/
  12. (sigh...) I thought so. The battle for a "functional" Opera+Flash on NT4 will continue. Not really sure why SP6 vs SP6a should matter, based open the modules. Still, the "max" Versions have been indicated. You may just be out of luck on "some" websites. Bear in mind the difference between SWF file and FLV files. Maybe that has something to do with it (codecs?).
  13. VirtualPC doen't emulate a given CPU. It uses YOUR CPU. Are you attempting to run a VM on a PII Host System? If so, as stated, it will need to support SSE instructions. Is yours listed here? http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-II/TYPE-Desktop%20Pentium%20II.html It seems like SSE only came out on PIII, hence your (potential) problem. See this - http://www.hardwarecentral.com/showthread.php?12949.html and this - http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium-III/ Sorry. The good part is that you can still find PIII at a reasonable price -if- your REAL MoBo supports it. I've been "recycling" mine for $3/lb. Slot CPU's are getting -really- hard to find. edit - looking back in your posts, it -appears- that you'r doing all thisn on a recent OS (you've indicated running Win2K in VM on "some other OS, maybe Win8?), so you may just be mistaken about the CPU...
  14. Are you still running Emulated PII? Have you tried running an Emulated PIII? You never said WHICH VM Software your using either. You now have THREE Topics about (essentially) the SAME PROBLEM, the Flash Player, regarding 9x/NT4! Win95/NT4 are very similar in nature, BTW (i.e. some code is actually shared, after a fashion, AFAICR). I suggest all three topics be merged (as best possible) before this gets out of hand.
  15. Double-yes (rmprepusb is also a part of the winsetupfromusb linked by 5eraph). See post#6. www.msfn.org/board/topic/170809-multiple-windows-7-versions-on-same-iso-unattended-product-key/ How odd you post a Topic when all of this is already listed on the Main Forum page. Right here is the link given on it. http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/157-install-windows-from-usb/ Please don't post a topic asking before you look around.
  16. How odd that you found the same link I posted above...
  17. HOW small? Google "wget.exe" intitle:index.of
  18. Follow-up - from MS - https://blogs.technet.com/b/mmpc/archive/2014/01/15/microsoft-antimalware-support-for-windows-xp.aspx
  19. Here is the ONLY support MS will provide beyond the deadline - https://blogs.technet.com/b/mmpc/archive/2014/01/15/microsoft-antimalware-support-for-windows-xp.aspx edit - 5eraph said the above. This is direct from the pony's mouth.
  20. Google on "windows 95" "tcp/ip stack" "random port dns"reveals that these are the only morons indisciminately blocking stuff. Read this thread as well (post #15) - http://www.stopforumspam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=12852 Blocking EVERYONE using AOL? Get real! It appears that ANYONE utilizing this software can indiscriminately block ANYONE for ANY REASON, based upon "supicion". IOW, those sites you mention using "ZB Block" are ignorantly blocking, so just don't go there using Windows 95. Wondering about the SpamBot Blocking that MSFN uses? Seems Win95 isn't block "just because", correct? Googling on just "random port dns"yelds this additional link - http://marc.info/?l=gauntlet-user&m=98450705427468&w=2 Googling this (google "suggested") microsoft dns random portssomewhat explains the previous link statements. Plug in "windows 95" (use the quotes) yeilds more info. (All first links directly from MS.) In other words, (IMHO) stupidity on the part of said SpamBot Blocking Software and/or the "setup" of said software based upon ignorance and fear. Hmmm.... of course this may explain it (also all about fear) - http://debian.fmi.uni-sofia.bg/~dimo/OTHER/dos101.txt Here (web archive) is the subject from the above text. Had to dig "backwards" for it. http://web.archive.org/web/19981206105844/http://www.sophist.demon.co.uk/ping/ So it appears that it's the SITE end that has the problem and NOT the Windows 95 -or- (as stated) Windows NT (which also is "afflicted"). Note the date of the article. Also see this - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/177719 edit - I believe jaclaz stated it more succinctly. And I provided a link that states they did just that!
  21. Update - Cleaning/SwappingAround the RAM sticks didn't work. Did it and VERY foolishly plugged the Keyboard into a Back Port, booted and (sigh...) same original symptoms. Shut down and put Keyboard back into the USB3, same thing (too late!). Nor did using a brand new (tested) 400w Power Supply. I hate this PC! On a side note, here's the XML I used for the Totally Quiet Unattended (post #6). I simply placed the USB3 Drivers into folder $WinPEDriver$ at the ROOT of the USB and let it Install. Guess I'll do it one more time so I can wipe out the BIOS entirely. :woot: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170809-multiple-windows-7-versions-on-same-iso-unattended-product-key/ (now cross-posted)
  22. Well, I'm a MainFrame guy - EVERYTHING is code! I WILL, however, REPEAT that a SINGLE XML is only good for a SINGLE EDITION. My intent with what I gave was to inform you that you'll also need to learn how that facility (rmprepusb, grub4dos MENU.LST, etc.) works. In essenec, I propose - 1 - Use "RMPREPUSB" along with "FIRADISK on USB" (there's a sample package there) 2 - Use ONE ISO in the sample folder 3 - Alter/Add MENU.LST entries for EACH Edition (pointing to SAME ISO), particularly dd if=()/firadisk/au.xml of=()/AutoUnattend.xmlBe aware that ALL XML FILES must be EXACTLY the same size (bytes), so you will need to make sure that hou have some (e.g.) blanks lines (maybe at the end) in the Source Files and copy any single one one into the ROOT (will be overlayed by the DD command). See this for why (you're LINUX, so look for the DD command) - http://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/files/commands.htm Also be aware that when you FINALLY run RMPREPUSB that you ALWAYS use it if you need another test run, as the ISO image MUST BE CONTIGUOUS or Mounting with FiraDisk will fail when you attempt to mount during Boot. This can be corrected with a CONTIG utility (in the RMPREPUSB package, AFAICR) but you will need probably an 8GB USB Stick (unless you reformat/rerun to Copy the Work Folder). I used a 4GB and had to repeat the USB Creation Process each time as there was insufficent space for the CONTIG utility. edit - Betting that my "sample" is all that anyone might need since it "does it all" (at least the basics) for a single Edition. See this (scroll to post #18 as well) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163854-hp-g43-mobo-nops2usb-kbdmouse-nodetect/
  23. (jeez!!!) You have the links to TechNet that tell about it. You CANNOT have an AIO, pick ONE EDITION, and expect it to "figure out" WHICH key unless I DO have a "package" for OEM-AIO but I'm not willing to distribute it (I like NOT being banned). I -could- alter it for your purposes but YOU are asking ME to GIVE you a "canned" package for your purposes. I WILL provide a FULL "Autounattend.XML" that you can "play with" but YOU must read those TechNet articles to figure it out from there. We are Helpers, not Suppliers -unless- it's in the "Member Contributed Projects", which this SubForum is not. Bear in mind that what I provide is used with a "special purpose" -Install From USB with Mounted ISO- package. The Base Package Download - http://www.rmprepusb.com/documents/release-2-0 Tutorials Used - http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/grub4dos http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/firawiniso XML Used Nothing "secret" inside - My UserID and the Home Premium Default Product Key. ONLY ONE PAIR CAN BE USED, it's "implied" based upon the TechNet links. Alter the XML (e.g. REMOVE the Partitioning stuff, etc) and the Tutorial files (CMD files, MENU.LST, etc) accordingly and do it from USB Stick so it will copy the CORRECT (depending on the selection) XML to the ROOT of the USB Stick. Since you say you are a Programmer, you should be able to figure it out. Bear in mind, this XML (and a couple of files I altered) were -specifically- for me to have a Hands-Free Install from a Cleaned HDD. BTW, did you notice this? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/139572-ask-your-seven-xml-here/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/146986-windows-7-deployment-documentation/ You may be new to this but you're asking (again) for "canned" Setup for your purposes. The files in question are within the SOURCES folder (the WIMs are there, too). Better do some "light reading" about "what do I have" before asking any more questions. Windows 7 (Vista/Windows 8) works ENTIRELY different from Windows 2000/XP/2003. If you have any problems after constructing YOUR USB Stick, then come back again.
  24. ...and I suppose I should also provide this information - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3408-activate-windows-7-online.html So, you've Installed and Activated but it says "Not Genuine". Does this work? http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ValidateNow.aspx?displaylang=en
