  1. OR, since you're manually changing (instead of using the program) try using this to change the Date/Time values - http://www.attributemagic.com/attributemagic-free.html Yes, it works fine on one single file at a time. You'll have to get the *original* file date/time and input it. Alternative is a (kind of) cumbersome Command Line utility "touch" found at SourceForge. Either/or/other.... Take your pick.
  2. @Bakuchris - Please *do* read the link I gave to avoid the "tinfoil hat" Updates. It's kept constantly up-to-date, including methods to get rid of one in case it slips by. (In spite of what the Vista FanBoi thinks.) Indeed, there's also a Windows Updates Downloader thread that specifically points to *THE LATEST* one (another forum) that *SPECIFICALLY* mentions which ones to *NOT* install and theres *ALSO* a thread here that will provide a CMD script that will install them *ALL* (the ones you want). I can attache it here if you wish. It's quite small. NOW, manually downloading and installing will allow you to leave Windows Updates *turned off*. Be aware that Microsft Updates ("Other Products" setting) *may* be on and it's purpose is to Update Non-Windows7 MS Products. That having been said, I have the settings on my Windows7 PC correctly set and have ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM with it. "Tinfoil" warnings is simply FUD. I will ALSO point out that MSFN member vinifera has long been a fan of Vista buit has *ALSO* upgraded to Windows7. 'NUFF SAID!!!!
  3. Please avoid smarta@@ crack like this. Get it??? BTW, as long as you avoid those "telemetry" thingies (Windows 10 related and *not* part of Windows 7) that get installed then there's no problem, Mr.NegativityTinFoilHatAccuser! (Or did you *not* read the links I gave?) I have Windows7ProOEM on one of my PC's and it's just as "private" as Vista. The OP asked and you said (basically) "NOOOOO!!!!!11!! Not better at ALL because TINFOIL!!!!111!!!!!!" 'K, thanx.
  4. Just to remind you - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/159631-testing-ms-dos-limitations/ (Of course you knew that...)
  5. I'm betting you used the "older" ULZ file. Look here for a link to the latest. www.msfn.org/board/topic/139877-post-sp1-updates-for-windows-7-updated-25032015/#entry1100970 Stipulation - you'll have to get signed up as a Member to download it. BTW, I doubt jcarle is going to bother updating WUD to get past that error. The assumption is that the ULZ are correct. See this (re Outdated) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174853-best-alternative-to-wud-outdated/ Two alternatives if you really wish to go a different route.
  6. Then if the "telemetry" updates aren't used, Windows7 is just as "private" as Vista, amirite?
  7. @AnX - These? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171482-get-windows-xp-x86-to-recognize-more-than-4gb-with-pae/#entry1114891 Added to DRIVER.CAB and replaced both in the normal place *and* the DLLCACHE? Plus modifying the BOOT.INI?
  8. Additionally... ...what version? Office2000 has (some) issues, as well as OfficeXP and Office2003, but they do (somewhat) work. Apparently most issues is installed on 64-Bit. Office2007 works just fine. Not really sure, but AFAICR Office97 will have more issues. DDR (slow) vs DDR2 (faster). Obviously your CPU isn't a Socket478 (no Dual Core). Yes, you will experience "slower" compared to XP, especially until you shut down unnecessary services. Basically, I'm (kind of) agree with jaclaz and dencorso. edit - BWAHAHAHAH! I meant Tripredacus. (submix8c need new glasses...)
  9. Here ya go. Also please note that the last x00 in the Colors (see link to other topic) are extraneous. Only the first three Hex values matter. http://www.color-hex.com/color-wheel/ http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp http://html-color-codes.info/
  10. Lets try again (and It appears to work similar to WSUS Offline.) http://www.portableupdate.com
  11. Right here... Problem? Or didn't you notice that what you "used" is no better than Windows Update (for a Running System, not Slipstream)? Maybe I'm wrong? (and here's the CORRECTED link! http://www.portableupdate.com/) I guess the Latest ULZ for WUD is unacceptable in your eyes (not a replacement at all)? Your welcome!
  12. I suppose you haven't read the "tinfoil hat" Topics and the associated links within? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173752-how-to-avoid-being-upgraded-to-win-10-against-your-will/ http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/173753-how-to-avoid-being-upgraded-to-win-10-against-your-will/ (Pssst... it's called Telemetry...) Google telemetry microsoft Extra! Extra! Read all about it! (Windows 10) https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt577208%28v=vs.85%29.aspx Now, one might also note that some of the Components installed into Windows7/8 are doing eactly that (to push you into Windows 10) and do precisely those things. (Tinfoil Hats....)
  13. Remove the blanks in between. Ensure you're searching HEX and not Text.
  14. HEY, Y'ALL!!!! Look at me previous post. WSUSOFFLINE will download based upon what Microsoft's very own files, JUST LIKE Microsoft WSUS Scanner, but it downloads *ALL* of them not just what your Scanned Computer *NEEDS* (which MS WSUS does)! And it WILL get all CURRENT updates as well. Also, I've said this before and say it again DO NOT DEPEND ON MS' LIST (in the CAB files) to have FLAGGED all Obsolete Updates (thery are BAD about that)! ALSO note ALL OF THOSE are *ONLY* for the SELECTED OS and NOT (e.g.) FOR (e.g.) SQL (not an OS). ALSO note that "Portable Update" is for what you NEED not Everything, as kmaheshkumar stated in the post BEFORE mine! Feel free to spin your wheels if you wish. I'm tired of repeatedly posting this same info in mulriple topics where people complain about WUD not having the Latest ULZ files. I TOLD YOU WHERE TO GET THE LATEST! (sigh...)
  15. Correction - Point #6. The info and links will guide you. AFAICR, the most important thing is to have them all ready to go, as one (or is it two?) of them rename to the "standard" name. You'll note that in my "BOOT.INI" example.
  16. Yes, there are - many. And some of the items have been corrupted (eg Split RAR's). I suppose a MOD will have to check this out. There are (AFAICT) some true "abandonware" stuff there and/or stuff the originator no longer cares to argue about (not worth the effort for $0.00 USD gain). (Yes, I've known about it for years and years...)
  17. I think you misunderstand. This topic isn't about 1 - getting updates to integrate 2 - to do an unattended USB stick It's only about Point #2. Point #1 is irrelevant (to Point #1) and is off-topic. But thanks for your input anyway.
  18. @Tomorrow - Did you miss this? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174608-are-update-lists-up-to-date/#entry1114457 And thanks for letting us know. Also how did you confirm this, might I ask? It seems that to confirm which is best you have to *literally* use it and consume bandwidth to do a list comparison, true? Also please note this well-maintained List (including change log) maintained here for XP-x32 - http://xdot.tk Additionally (from the ReadMe of the WinCert ULZ) - "- Updates named with a "z" (ex. zWindowsXXX.msu) have to be integrated in Silent installer + SFX section of Wintoolkit (or Setupcomplete.cmd)." How does the WHDownloader handle that? Are they flagged? (Again, there's no way to *know* what the list is.) Allow me give the link (again) - http://www.wincert.net/forum/topic/12103-08-d%C3%A9cembre-2015-update-list-gdr-pour-windows-7-sp1-x86x64-fr-en-de-es-it/ BTW, I'm a "member" of the "other website" as well as Wincert, as well as some folks at RyanVM and Wincert, as well as others here, so...)
  19. There's a simple trick via adding another entry to the BOOT.INI that "automagically" sets the correct HAL. It's "somewhere" on MSFN (I had posted in the Topic). I have to go out in the screaming cold right now to get something, so you'll have to search. If you find it, post the link here, othewise I'll try to find it and update this post with it. --- AHHH! This may have been it. multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetectmulti(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Pro HAL Test" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe /hal=halmacpi.dllOnce you select the second one, XP "repairs" itself and then that line becomes reduntant. HTH edit - And No, it will just use the Single Core until you swap them.
  20. Just after XP EOL...
  21. There's another one, but I'll not give the link. The "Abandonware" term becomes a (maybe not so) grey area when you refer to (especially) MS software.
  22. You might also observe this post? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/174608-are-update-lists-up-to-date/#entry1114536 I seriously resent a Software that keeps a "secret method" of the location of downloaded files. ULZ are simply compressed (zip) UL files that are in XML format and easily readable. Just open the ULZ with your favorite ZIP decompressor and have a look. You know, you could always use "WSUS Offline Updater" but it, too, is not dependable, since it uses WSUS methods and MS is notorious for *not* flagging Obsolete/Superceded updates in the CAB files (also XML's). Heck, you may as well install Microsoft WSUS on a clean installed machine and have it scan and download the selfsame Updates that are offered on Windows Update website. HTH
  23. Speaking of FUD... the above link no longer exists but - http://web.archive.org/web/20160103221556/http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2016/01/02/microsoft-windows-7-problems/ I wonder if said contributor has been banned from posting heresy against Microsoft.
  24. I blame the Home Users who have no clue about funcional OS' and Websites. They all expect Eye Candy. Boss - "Dudes, we *have* to get this custom body repair and fancy paint job done ASAP!" Us - "Wow! OK, boss, but it's going to be a pretty shabby outcome." <job is completed and delivered...> Customer - "Oooh! Shiney!"
