Just a note... Please read the Big Red Statement at the top.

To clarify - Two cards, one having a single IDE connector (allowing two devices - Master+Slave using IRQ#14-Primary) and a second have two IDE connectors (allowing four devices - Master+Slave using IRQ#14-Primary and Master+Slave using IRQ#15-Secondary). Chose the one that has the MOST connectors and remove the other OR disable the IDE (via perhaps a Jumper?) on the one with the SINGLE Connector, thus eliminating the IRQ#14-Primary "conflict". (the thread is now a bit convoluted, but please understand the difference between the CONTROLLER Primary/Secondary and the DEVICE Master/Slave relationship)

Can I slipstream Dell Vista x86 SP1 DVD (VLK!) with SP2 BUT WITHOU
submix8c replied to devnullius's topic in Windows Vista
Your question (not pertaining to vLite or even using it - PERSONAL use) appears to be whether you could apply SP2 to an OEM-branded Vista Business SP1. Having never tried the "slipstream" on Vista, one would "assume" it MAY work as stated in the link. The "problem" appears to be using (probably) "stolen" (blacklisted due to theft thereof) keys. I would say offhand that the "internal" key MAY work provided that you have the appropriate Certification intact in the correct location on the "built" DVD. In conclusion - 1 - get the "internal" key 2 - "slip" SP2 3 - back up one of the PC's COMPLETELY (including the MBR) with a GOOD backup software 4 - try it. Investigate the Certs and the Keys (where "embedded" on a DVD and in said running OS) side note - why do you think this is a VLK version? OEM and VLK are two different beasts and I am assuming that since you refer to multiple PC's, this may be the case. ALSO, chances are that it will NOT work on the XP machines anyway (and illegal as he!!) since the SLP is different. For those that ARE Vista Pre-Activated, you're within legal bounds. PERIOD! 'Nuff said (no more help offered or remotely given on that score) - so... yep - NO! (within bounds, as specified... MAYBE) HTH -
Interesting! Point of interest? If you "uninstall" any ZIP-enabled software (eg WinRAR) one might "assume" that the DLL may need re-registered to re-associate the built-in function. (Correct?)

Can windows auto configure ipv6 to subnet, (or relay "ipv6 adverti
submix8c replied to xinglp's topic in Windows XP
"Lan2" - "another network" - What network would that be? The "WWW" (your ISP)??? Is that network capable of issuing an IPv6 address? Just because it's enabled doesn't mean that network is using it. -
Has it EVER (YELLING) occurred to you back up the MBR sector and ATTACH IT? (Sooooo easy to do...) Inspection of it would/may "eliminate" that from the equation. You had ALSO (yelling again) mentioned a partitioning tool but haven't indicated what it is. SpinRite - Gibson Research (GRC) - we KNOW of that site and the controversial "ShieldsUp" test (of which I too occasionally use). Have you, by chance, tried alternatives (like the Manufacturer's) or any number of other FREE HDD test softwares (again - SEARCH button is the little "Gear" in the upper right corner of this very screen)? Seriously, I find it quite impossible that a "random boot error" would occur against the HDD then booting from CD then booting to HDD ("it works!") error-free to be normal by any means. Again, SERIOUSLY (YELLING again) this condition+"fix" is unheard of (read as "impossible") unless something else is wrong. P.S. "Backing" the MBR in no way alters it AS IT WOULD CURRENTLY EXIST! 1 - (going) Bad Disk 2 - Geometry incorrectly detected(?) 3 - Bad MBR (some kind of RootKit?) 4 - BIOS "randomly" changing Geometry parameters 5 - You have a "super-hidden" partition (could also check that with MBR sector upload) Process of elimination would really help... Only a Parent says to a child "Because"... We are not children. B)

Adobe Flash Add-on Creator - NOT NEEDED. USE NEW NLITE.

Thx.... Inane comment - "silent upgrade system"... yuk! Never liked "auto-update-anything" during installs... -
(...sigh again...) This isn't a debate board (as you apparently seem to think it is). It's a "help each other" forum. If you insist that "that may not work because so-and-so website said so" (better with bold/italicized? not shouting but insistent?) then you have come to the wrong place. Try what's suggested with proven - free software and/or potential - hardware fixes or don't bother bandying with us. Point of note - if you check all posts others here have (try "search the board") you'll note that these folks are not "askers of assistance" but rather "helpers". You want helped, then you've got try something then report back, not "argue/debate". BTW, "fixmbr" is not a be-all-end-all-definitive "fixer". Again, the MBR could have been "created/altered" by any number of softwares. You seem to be reluctant to name any of them.

??? I'm not completely following you.... You say "Combo" card and indicate ANOTHER ATA connection - You DO realize you can't have more than TWO (AFAIK) ATA devices on ONE Primary ATA Controller (IRQ#14) and TWO ATA devices on ONE Secondary Controller (IRQ#15). You can't have MORE than two ATA controllers active UNLESS there's a way to reassign the "standard" IRQ's. AFAICT, "Combo" boards are usually to allow ADDING ATA connections to a MoBo that does not have any at all. If you're talking SATA, then that may be a different story... (dunno for sure) edit - Can you be more specific as to WHAT you have connected to WHICH "connections"?

(...sigh...) ATTACH THE BACKUP and MAYBE (if you LET US HELP YOU) someone will be kind enough to VERIFY the contents. There are TWO "basic" parts to the First 512-byte sector (MBR) - the Boot Code + the Partition Table Do yourself a favor - search "starman pcministry mbr" (without quotes) on the Internet and do a little light reading. What you'll find is both some good info on various "versions" of MBR's (depending on which OS "initialized" it) and links on the Partition Table layouts. "Starman" is a well-respected and (nearly) definitive person/resource for what you insist is the "apparent" cause of your problem. edit - "...the partitioning tool..." - WHAT partitioning tool? Trust me, those that have been around a while ("not our first rodeo") will immediately recognize it and know how it functions.

Could it be that the particular machine has an entirely different "group" with Admin privileges and the normal Admin "group" has had those privileges removed somehow?Better check on that... (and look in the Computer Management of said PC) edit - "I have an XP3 machine and want to apply XP3"???

MTP = Media Transfer Protocol Media Players with DRM (like Windows Media Players). May also be for eBooks, etc. Wife has a SansaClip MP3 player. I "flipped" it to MSC-Mode (Mass Storage Class) and it "appears" as a Mass Storage Device (can copy MP3's to/from it AND it plays them). (don't think I'm too off base...) edit - does this help? Wiki (look at "file storage and transfer"). Seems the iTouch is "restricted" unless you "fiddle" with it. More (and some supposed software) ...and more (with further info on acronyms). HTH, and good luck...

Did a quick search on eBay and found scads of XP for pretty cheap.
-
If it's just to "learn", try REAL HARD to find a Trial Edition of XP. As stated, no help for anything else. P.S. - try eBay or Cragslist for unopened "legit" - probably real cheap... edit - scratch the Trial - just remembered I had signed up a long time ago to get it. No longer exists.

You applied BOTH Patch sets??? Why would you do that?

When you ADD a new value, it's irrelevant. The sheer fact that you are doing a DWORD (from the LEFT SIDE) will create a VALUE on the RIGHT and will be a "2" (no matter what Numeric BASE you use). You MIGHT have to "rename" it to the indicate NAME given above (ref. that link dencorso gave). -

In RegEdit, go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Detect RIGHT-CLICK "DETECT" (on left pane) and a "window" will appear ...and then add as a new dword value: (etc) Odd that the Intel item reappeared. May be irrelevant. The only thing you did was "deallocate" the IRQ to "free" it for the USB Add-In, so... edit - dencorso... THIS BIOS entry? http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/7778513/img/7778513.jpg "ACPI Enabled" -
Hmmm... I used Kel's "method" and it seems to work. The "AU" folder (in my profile) no longer appears and in the Java Control Panel, the "Update" tab is "missing". The only other item I can find is in the Control Panel "JRE Auto-Download" (see this). His method completely removes ALL Auto-Updates plus removal of previous version(s) prior to install. The ONLY thing "lagging" is that single entry. It MAY be irrelevant since the "auto-update" was never installed. (Clueless). I note, however, that I haven't found a REG entry for it. Using non-S suffixed version - REM 1) Double-Click Installer (STOP!) to get: REM 2) ->C:\Documents and Settings\<yourID>\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_31 REM 3) (the following to get files per Kel - ref. link to RyanVM) msiexec.exe /a jre1.6.0_31.msi targetdir=%homedrive%\Admin /qb REM 4) Uninstall current version MsiExec /qn /x {26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F83216019FF} REM 5) Install Current Version (from Step#3) MsiExec /i jre1.6.0_31.msi /qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 MOZILLA=1 SYSTRAY=0 JAVAUPDATE=0 JU=0 AUTOUPDATECHECK=0 REM 6) Remove Java Quick Start "%ProgramFiles%\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exe" -unregisterThat REG stuff you indicated apparently is used if running the EXE-installer that's downloaded. All the other "nifty parameters" are apparently NOT passed to the MSI, hence the "alternate" method of "extraction". Other than that single "strange" CPL entry, all seems as what I wanted. So it SEEMS that the only thing needed is to manually extract (1-2-3) and package using execute sequence (4-5-6). edit - NOTE - the AU folder is at C:\Documents and Settings\<yourID>\Application Data\Sun\Java\AU and contains AU.MSI and AU.CAB (apparently from the "full" install sequence) ...this is what your "Uninstall" is doing (but in Kel's method it doesn't exist) interesting read here at date=7/29/2010 by FruF

Not sure, but... "Assign IRQ for USB" - http://www4.picturepush.com/photo/a/7778517/img/7778517.jpg You're picking up the (old) Intel one... You could TRY going into SAFE MODE (the only way to see old/hidden) and UNINSTALL all USB-related items, then reboot into BIOS and try disabling (ref the photo) IRQ->USB assignment , then see if Windows "picks up" ONLY the VIA Add-In (and make sure the Drivers are "findable" or maybe need to reinstall). Seems you are having more problems with the Intel (on-board USB1.1) than the VIA (Add-in USB2.0). -

Live in the USA??? Try CraigsList - always someone trying to "unload" older PC's. -
Unable to eliminate "AUTOUPDATE" (among other "AUTO" items), I found this. I really DON'T want Auto-anything, JQS (etc.) so I'm now trying a couple of these "tricks". (Deprecated indeed!). Also explains the difference between the two sizes ("Wahoo" toolbar). Silent JAVA link (apparently old) Silent JAVA (from Oracle) link (also older) Newer (from Oracle) link ("deprecated") ...and Kel's wonderful tutorial for U30... HTH

Just for giggles, disable the OnBoard USB (ref screen shots). Legacy USB will probably no longer function (must use PS/2). -
1 - MANUALLY slipstream SP3 "full" 2 - nLite "add" remainder Watch out for any "tweaks" during nLite. Some items will directly affect others. Basically, you shouldn't remove components since the AIO probably "assumes" the presence of any/all components PLUS additional items. What is a "Microsoft Shortcut Bar"? Google still yields little. Please explain your terminology.
