  1. Do you mean Firefox v2.0.0.20? Also what version of Flash player are you using ("about:plugins" in the address bar)? That could be a problem. You've already been told about the RAM (re-read previous post) - not necessarily relevant, however if the MoBo will accept them, use whatever you wish according to the manufacturer's specs as to type, size, and slot (just try them). How do you have the Page File set up - is it "fixed" size? "AOL9.00 Browser"??? What are you talking about? Isn't that just the "supplied" Internet Explorer that came with an AOL9 Dial-Up Install CD?
  2. This tool, correct? Hmmm, have you tried it with the "unaltered" ISO? AFAICR, nLite/vLite use "mkisofs" to create the ISO image. This sounds a bit strange to me. BTW, there are other methods of creating a USB-install of the ISO. edit - Searching on the error I get several "hits", one being this that states that Custom ISO's can't be used. and this that implies that the UDF FileSystem is not present (don't know if vLite set that or not). More (older) info here (re - Custom ISO's and the same Fix and an explicit note about the source of the ISO). More about it here. You may want to ignore that tool and use a method you will undoubtebly find here on MSFN. Alternative is to TRY the "tool" mentioned in multiple places.
  3. Do this (the SYSTEM.CB change) - Then this - You've indicated that you've done Step#1, Step#5, and Step#6. As you can see, if you do Step#2, then you need not do Step#1 (or maybe even the SYSTEM.CB change).Did you do Step#3 and Step#4? They are necessary also. In addition, I am changing Step#6 to read differently - The HIMEM.EXE is the part that is changing (replacing the use of HIMEM.SYS).REMove the line in your CONFIG.SYS. It's overriding the HIMEM.EXE line. I repeat, I find it IMPOSSIBLE that the "string" was not found in your IO.SYS unless its already been "modified" in some way. Find a Hex Editor, open IO.SYS up and see if that string exists. Please note that running the patch two or more times will cause a "string not found" error because it has already been changed. USE THE STEP#4 FIX FIRST! ALL STEPS MUST BE COMPLETED IN ORDER. Try the CONFIG.SYS change I mentioned above. Also confirm that all changes are done correctly. If you can boot into Normal Mode, then you should be able to check that all items are completed as necessary.
  4. Here is a good starting point.Might I ask if you already have 2G installed? It may be easier to have only 512M to start with. HOWEVER, that doesn't appear to be the problem (which I find unusual). Using a Hex Editor, at offset A4E4 I find it in the original Win98SE IO.SYS. Doubtful (even if language-dependent) that it can't be "found". I assume that you've successfully completed steps 1 thru 4?
  5. @jaclaz -
  6. Egg Nog is basically alcoholic pancake mix batter... Merry Christmas (yeah, I said it politically incorrectly and meant it!) Hope you liked the one-liner! (Got any more to add? Feel free!) Peace, Bro's and Sis'!!!
  7. A single comment - the OP has opened topics and never flagged them as "Solved", only asking questions without follow-ups. Bet they won't come back to this topic...(must be a bad-mood day for me...)
  8. Probably why it works (? WOW!) doing it the way you did it. As stated, "Everyone" means Everyone. Read-Only for Everyone is the "default", hence defining the User-B on the NTFS-type system. The "smart" method is to REMOVE "Everyone" and add "User-X" to prevent unauthorized accesses (that you will get on a "loose" 9x system).
  9. 1 - True2 - Use 2003 as an intermediary (upgrade 2000->2003->2008) (I know no more than that - sorry...)
  10. Let's straighten this out (using some "loose" definitions/terms) - Seven (or XP or Vista or Server 2k3/2k8) - User-A and User-B defined Signed on as User-A Win9x (any flavor) - User-B Defined (AFTER installing "Client for Microsoft Networks") Signed on as User-B Win9x does NOT have "ACL" since this is an NTFS-type "Sharing" facility ONLY. Shares between Win9x PC's by DEFAULT allow accesses (note READ-ONLY or FULL plus "Set a Password" under SHARING for given folder). It is NOT based upon User/Group Sign-On. ANY OS/USER can access the Share - Win9x could CARE LESS! HOWEVER, on NTFS-type Systems, the Share Access MUST define WHICH Users/Groups, WHAT access for that User/Group, AND the Given User MUST have a Password set (REQUIRED). Interestingly, you need not be "signed on" to the Requesting computer (WHEN IT IS AN NTFS-TYPE SYSTEM) with a User/Password combo that is defined on the Sharing PC, but MUST have one defined on the Sharing PC to gain access (and then providing said User/Password combo when attempting access). The "Everyone" Group means "Everyone Defined on Said PC". NTFS-types DO CARE! SO, in the Win9x System, "Client for Microsoft Networks" MUST be installed (in Control Panel->Network) AND used as "Primary Network Logon" AND a User/Password combination used that MUST MATCH that defined on the NTFS-type system ( see initial statements about User-B ). If you don't believe me, install Win9x on a Virtual PC and try it as stated. Trust me, it works no other way... (this has been hashed before many times)
  11. BitDefender AFAICT. It's simply the format of the output saying "You have a file in your TEMP folder and its name is: abcdefg.xxx".Obviously, there MUST be a backslash in order to work. What is with this "alternate datastream" stuff - what led you to believe that's where/what it is/was? Sheesh! Safe Mode + Yzöwl's command should do the trick AND removing the HKCU entry (as an afterthought). Then rerun the Antivirus scan. edit - And you might note that the OP hasn't returned. Been a lot of that going on lately...
  12. Ever work in an IBM Mainframe environment? Ever use ISPF/PDF? I stumbled across a "free" clone (note that its a "lite" version). The SPF Editor appears to work exactly like its Mainframe counterpart. Nice features in that. I missed copying blocks of code for stub testing/coding. Check it out, oldie-dudes!
  13. According to the Manual, it has PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard Ports. Are you using USB instead? If so, you may NEVER get into the BIOS.I must assume that the Reinstall loaded the correct (USB Keyboard/Mouse) drivers, otherwise it would have never reinstalled and the keyboard/mouse would never have worked. How did you manage to get the BIOS to boot from a CD/DVD if you can't even get into the BIOS? (LEGACY USB Support for using a USB KB/Mouse - a certain manufacturer hosed some users with a default-to-PS/2 BIOS update with NO PS/2 PORTS!) Have you tried the "Emergency BIOS Recovery with Floppy" solution (the "special no-jumper" method)? If not, try that and BE SURE to use the CORRECT BIOS (you will need a floppy drive and all other drives disconnected). I'm seriously at a loss. Is this a TRUE Intel board (home-brew tower) or an OEM board (HP, Dell, etc. tower)? Source of my Info and links to everything. BTW, BIOS Reset has to be done correctly as well - read the DOCS in the link. WARNING! Use a Win9x/ME-formatted Floppy or CD/USB Image, and NOT one formatted with an NT-type system.
  14. Referring to the Novell WordPerfect Lawsuit?Hardly a reason to "eliminate" files. The same thing happened to Windows NT and all Dos and DOS-based Win3x and below - all gone! Technology moves on (want a free IBM 5150?)
  15. I understood well. I've used the one you refer to and prefer the other (no "additional files needed"). Again, painful to use. If you insist, they are mostly the same but I've had better luck with XPSP3/Server2k3SP2. I could look up the exact files if need be. They may (not sure) be in the Server SP2 IT-package.As rloew said, the limitations still exist. edit - Following the link to Web Archive you can see that it's Read-Only and requires - * NTFS.SYS: this file is located at \system32\drivers\ntfs.sys * NTOSKRNL.EXE: this file is located at \system32\ntoskrnl.exe * AUTOCHK.EXE: this file is located at \system32\autochk.exe * NTDLL.DLL: this file is located at \system32\ntdll.dll * C_437.NLS: this file is located at \system32\c_437.nls * C_1252.NLS: this file is located at \system32\c_1252.nls * L_INTL.NLS: this file is located at \system32\l_intl.nls Info on installation - http://www.techrepublic.com/article/installing-sysinternals-ntfs-for-windows-98-driver/1047598 edit2 - hmmm... looks like I used Server 2k3 and also had to use 2k3 "psapi.dll" as well. Some sort of error (an "export"?)... That's all I can give as the last time I used that version was May of 2006.
  16. DOH! Oh well, info is (maybe) good.(Too broke to pay attention, I guess...)
  17. You're looking into the wrong version, the one requiring XP/2K3 specific files to function. It's kind of tricky to even get it to work properly.Try clicking on this embedded link instead (newer/better/correct version) - Take the warnings seriously and do what it says. I've used it and it works fine. Take note that the file limit size applies to any non-NTFS partitions (as well as partition size limitations for non-NTFS).
  18. Hyper-V Update - http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=18567 And perhaps this how-to will help. I was under the impression that x64 (RTM had a "beta" embedded, hence the "update") already had Hyper-V and the x86 (32-bit) was either without or with "command-line control" of an x64 Hyper-V server. Maybe this was the "two flavors" mentioned (32-bit). 32-bit can NOT have Hyper-V, only "control" via RDP of a Server. Only fully available with x64 Server, Enterprise, Datacenter (part of the "core"). Haven't tried any of it yet. Prepping my spanky "new" AMD 64 x2 (Dual-Core) with VT Mobo for some tests.
  19. DVD-RAM is UDF-format (AFAIK).Some MS Info - CD-Rom Drive Not Reading UDF DVD-RW disks appear to be empty Newer (and presumably better) Nero InCD tools are here. Don't use the Roxio DirectCD stuff - fails. You may have to upgrade your XP SP1a to SP2/SP3 to get it "fixed" (presumably SP3, which includes "hotfix" mentioned in second link). More Info - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Disk_Format http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive_Letter_Access Some very good info (plus some helpful links) - http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php You probably had some UDF software installed before your reinstall. I use Nero so can't say with certainty whether applying SP3 alone will help. P.S. The link to the Nero site is for both the Reader and the full InCD (both now FREE).
  20. Don't know which one you downloaded OR what version of Norton you're using, but I just downloaded (using FlashGet, as the "direct download" was incomplete) the first package, "un-zipped" it and ran a scan (SAV v10) and it found nothing. You'll have to create a separate folder, tell Norton to EXCLUDE the folder, turn Norton OFF, download the file to that folder, then re-enable Norton. Also Disable Norton when installing. Definitely a false-positive from your version of Norton. WWW-search on that reveals a LOT of false-positives.
  21. I would hate to see their flowcharts, let alone compare them to the actual code. I "kind of" saved a military project once by inspecting the generated machine code (output from the COBOL Compiler). Seems they had a lot of "extra code" converting between numeric formats unnecessarily. Most programs were revamped and the speed improvement allowed for it to be "approved" (two days down to several hours computations difference)."We don' need efficient OS, we only need steenking patches, senor!" The thread, although interesting, is rather a moot subject.
  22. Stoopid Question - was the "pins" reset done using a jumper? If so, was the "jumper" put back to the "normal" position?Bios Recover Procedure (see the jumper? 3 settings - Normal, Clear CMOS, Recovery). The Jumper MUST be put back to Normal after Clear CMOS.
  23. Curiosity... what browser are you using (Opera, Firefox, InternetExplorer, "other")? Your "quotes" are (sometimes) repeating themselves AND being broken from the replies you make. When you click "Quote" button, the said quoted text should automatically open a "Replying to..." box. Just add your reply at the end of the "box" and click the "add reply", "preview post", or "cancel" button. "Multiquote" button is for "collecting" several separate post "quotes" and assembling them into a single reply. HTH
  24. ilividsetupv1 Download Manager (if you're lucky to have gotten it from a legit source ). (PAY ATTENTION, says I to myself...)
