  1. Nuh-uh... Not "killed". They had to rewrite it to download direct from MS instead of using "stored fixes" (in violation of... ). There is simply nobody who cares to bother with 2K there anymore. Any takers? Go there and learn the "ropes" and update the Scripts. Personally, I'm satisfied with what we have access to here...Side note - be glad to supply the "last known (to me at least) list of "fixes" valid for Win2K. Haven't bothered with it since then but plan to in future for an old HP Server box...
  2. FWIW, 7z-SFX can be "split" (7zsplit.exe) to get the "install command" (ref. Self Extracting 7-Zip Install Creation thread on this) and the 7-Zip ZIP file (which can be extracted). From there, attempt to run the Setup manually (instead of from the TEMP folder). Note: You can also use a Hex Editor to find the "config.txt" as per "layout" (the Install Command), go to the end of it, and delete it and all preceding (the SFX module) then save as "something.7z" for extraction. HTH (I don't use Opera or Kex...)
  3. No Support for Windows-ME... ME is pre-Skype (VoIP never supported for pre-XP)...
  4. Post#12 (get the correct version) + Post#28 (link to how-to Repair Install) Before doing this, get a KeyFinder to get your OEM key. There's also a file "yadayada.XRM-MS" that needs to be used in conjunction. Read this (posts#15+#17). The theory here is that using LEGITIMATE methods to Repair Install + Re-activate (using YOUR Key + xrm-ms file) with a RETAIL DVD Image (the exact same one as yours) should get you up to SP1 directly (the Image is pre-integrated) and (in essence) "blow away" any pre-SP1 "fixes" installed (no longer needed). OEM DVD's are basically Retail DVD's with extra "goodies" (maybe) and the said file with the key "embedded" (sometimes) and OEM Logo (etc etc). This information is widely available and is only good for OEM Pre-Installed PC's. There's even a thread on MSFN on how to create an OEM DVD without the extra "goodies" (that you may or may not want) plus lots of other valuable info. I still highly recommend getting the DVD(s) from the Manufacturer. Final note - For all we know, you might actually have a "Restore To Factory" WIM-image on a "hidden" partition (you may not want to use that except as a last resort - puts it back to when you unpacked and hooked it up i.e. back to square one).
  5. FYI... TCPoptimizer keeps the Before/After REG settings, so you may observe their effect for any given change.
  6. ??? Aren't you cluttering the Topic with an unrelated subject? ...and now I go O.T. - There is a myriad of "cloning" techniques and software for such purpose and each have merits and fallacies. It's up to the end user to determine what they're comfortable with. I personally opt for Ghost, but that's a matter of preference., correct? MSFN'ers tend to browse around for suggested software. I believe that Clonezilla is also listed in a topic of "Software that works for Win9x"? Look for it...
  7. Can they not send a replacement DVD(s)? Sometimes they will, sometimes for a nominal fee. Just a thought (in lieu of further assistance by other member).
  8. ??? That's not what he said. You're already using a Boot Manager, so the Shell is irrelevant. The problem is the HARD-CODED part. Fix that as per the link and try it.
  9. I won't swear to this but the "Last Session.ini" (IF on the x86 CD) can be placed in the Presets folder and reused, although any drivers specified will have to be removed and x64 ones used instead.
  10. OS has a nasty habit of keeping "bad"/"old" Registry Entries that only show up in Safe Mode. In XP (and up) you can ask for "Show All Devices" and that facility doesn't exist in Win9x and must be done in Safe. Try that, ok?
  11. One comment... WHAAAAA??????
  12. "Unknown Device" is what we were looking for. Which Windows do you have installed (95, 98,ME)? Is ist a "fresh" install (from "scratch")? I'm a little confused if you used the Original Install CD for it. I found a set of drivers for the above but not for the full (which includes SubSys) string. Check these out and see if they match what's on the actual Card (inside the PC). Hopefully, you'll have enough know-how to pull the side off the PC (AFTER you turn it off and unplug it AND the monitor) and look at it. The main thing to look for is an FCC-ID. For the "4100" For the below "4000" The only "SubSys" I found was for "Intel V92 HaM Data Fax Voice" - VEN_1813&DEV_4000&SUBSYS_00018086&REV_02 or VEN_1813&DEV_4000 ...which appears to be incorrect. Note that this is referred to as a "Soft Modem" and "creates" a "fake" COM port. You initially said Why would you say "can't find drivers"?Look here for info/help on Conflict.
  13. So-called "XP Gold"=XP RTM (Release To Manufacturing, i.e. no service pack, buggy Command Console, and lacking DotNet among other items, all available from MS if needed). XP-SP1 (the CD) was the first to "fix" the "bug" and offer DotNet. Indeed, Gigabyte does not offer SATA drivers for your MoBo, however they can be obtained from Intel directly (ICH9 SATA - Intel Matrix Storage Drivers). Here is a hint and a direct link to Intel, if needed.
  14. Errr.... there's a topic her on MSFN that specifically states that you might have problems with direct integration of multiple drivers that use the same filenames. DriverPacks specifically separate them into sub-folders by intent. If you insist on "mass integration" you should add them individually, although there may be a limit on how many you can add. ...and YES, it matters as to "commercial" or not. A EULA is a EULA...
  15. re: Backup How-To...
  16. Just a note... If you have a non-SP4 Win2k, you'll need in step#2 above to make a step#2a (one between step#2 and step#3) for slipping the SP4 into it. HFSLIP can do that as well AFAICR. BTW, either HFSLIP or nLite can do all of the above (AFAIK), but stick with the method given.
  17. Add/Remove Programs - tick "Show All Updates" (AFAIK, it's the same in Win-7...)
  18. Do you actually see the drivers in the nLite window? I just downloaded a "small" DP for Monitors (to speed up) and thee is a FOLDER for each SET containing the INF files. You MUST point to the Folder containing the INF's and NOT the next-higher Folder. example - for Monitors, there is a MAIN folder and several other folders UNDER it for each Vendor. If you attempt to point to the MAIN folder, nLite (probably) won't "see" them. You didn't remove anything (e.g. Services) during nLite Build, did you? Upload your LastSession.INI (see the big red note at the top of this page?)...
  19. OK, FWIW, the only entries in "HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse" in my Win2k3 is "ActiveWindowTracking" (dword=x0) Slider is centered and Enhanced Pointer Precision is ticked. (USB Wireless Logitech) One might wonder... why the "Smooth..." entries don't exist? Side note: My XP, however DOES have these entries and more (as per articles). Significant or not?
  20. Here's one (can't remember another, but found this one)... In the Registry is where you'll find the ID's... "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ENUM\PCI" Below that, you'll see the Hardware ID's.
  21. Please point to the post that indicates which "updates" you applied, Sir Frogman... USP3, AutoPatcher, Individual Updates? WHERE/Which/WHAT? Is there a reason you can't say or do you just do "random updates"? Edit - a search reveals that it must be "individual"... Edit2 - I also note you always "ask", get "answers", but NEVER "CLOSE" any Topic you start. SA-WEET! Here is the complete info on this individual fix with warnings. ...and pardon... this is a "patched" 98SE, not WinME... Seemingly unrelated - read it... Finally, just for giggles, try this (courtesy MDGx) - Try this (do the LAST quote FIRST) and see if it "rebuilds" (note - you only need to deal with EXPLORER.LGC, AFAICT). You may afterward remove the REG entry. I have no clue as to whether this will "fix" your problem, as I have been given insufficient information pertaining to your System.
  22. Hmmm - same problem but no solution given. Searching... edit - Got a "chipset" value to search on? ARRG!!! NM... it's a Laptop... Can you find the Ven/Dev in the Registry? (may help...) edit2 - found the specs ...and I believe this actually should be "CS4205" (a misprint?)Try here (and have no clue what you already have installed...)

    Corrupt XP Files

RAM Limits The "trick" to use 4GB with a warning of limitation (on 32-bit). More here and here on the subject of RAM limits which indicates you still have to use PAE switch even with x64 but the drivers still have to support it. Your alternative is to install in a VM on top of another supporting OS (maybe a free Linux Distribution or Server2K3/higher?). Good luck and Case closed... edit - Unix almost equal Linux... Again, good luck.
  24. Wrong. For info as previously indicated, the explorer I extracted was taken from my Windows 98 S.E CD and is version 4.72.3110.1 (sigh... I give up... live with it!)
