  1. @dencorso and @rloew - see this (last post). Apparently there WAS bad ram as well. Case closed in both Topics. The OP should really mark these SOLVED...
  2. Re - this "Team" - I found this.It would be nice if you introduce yourself as I have found a lot of info on other sites regarding your legitimacy. I also found this. It would have been nice to indicate that as well... Hmmm, NBD, but....
  3. Hmmm... Did you "swap" another out and replace it with this one? Try this - Boot to 98SE Safe Mode and in Device Manager - REMOVE any/all CD/DVD Devices and reboot. It SHOULD "find" it again. If not, do an "Add New Hardware". Also, if you have ANY references to a CD Device (eg MSCDEX) in AUTOEXEC.BAT/CONFIG.SYS edit them by putting REM+SPACE in front and save them. Addendum - was this a CLEAN install of 98SE+SP3? There IS a requirement to install CLEAN and install OTHER packages before/after SP3 (the order of install is important).
  4. Did you look into the reply I gave in your other topic? Grub4DOS may do the F8 trick (unsure). And you may be able to immediately press F8 after selecting 98SE from the Boot Menu.
  5. ??? You're in the wrong Sub-Forum. You should have posted here to get a Win7 reply. edited and struck through (WDS 2003, so...)
  6. I don't use MS Backup - I use a 3d party solution (commercial non-free). However, I believe MS Backup (AFAICR) allows for selective backups. Read the Help file for it. Offhand, I can't remember the names of several FREE Disk/Partition Backup Solutions, but I know they are there. Google "HDD Backup Freeware" (without quotes).
  7. Which softwares have you used? You never said the Vendors/Versions, so hard to tell... Have you tried this? Two step process - Read Disk to Image OR Create image, THEN Write Disk.
  8. Have you tried looking here which has a link to here which has a link to which is newer than the one you're looking for. Might I suggest you browse the Topics and patch it up. Everything is there!FWIW, here is a portion of the INF - I have no clue where to get the Installation File and can't reveal it anyway. You'll just have to search for it.edit - Find it here
  9. ? I've used a Ghost v8 Bootable Floppy (PC-DOS version) with >1gb RAM and had no trouble. What version Ghost are you using? BTW, you said "Restart in MS-DOS mode" - that's not the same as "Pressing F8 -> Select Command Prompt Only) (and you'll need some "patched" files, AFAICR). Have you applied ANY patches suggested on MSFN, other than those you mentioned? There's also a "SYSTEM.CB" for Safe Mode...
  10. (see last comment regarding the attached screenshot)NOW, for the Integration of the Drivers using nLite - Reread that. I said point to the INF files (plural) NOT an INI File. It's clearly stated in nLite where to integrate and all you do is BROWSE to EACH FOLDER that has the indicated INF file and VOILA! The INF's are collected and the files are packed FOR you (.SYS -> .SY_). It's easy!P.S. I have done this many times - the ZIP unpacks then the EXE unpacks and IN THAT are many folders - look inside them (the FOLDERS - there's one for each OS, including Win2000) for the INF's I said. Do the same for the Sound and Video. Both the INF and associate Files are needed - the INF is the directive to install the Files, OK? ...and BTW, burn the CD at a slow speed (4x-8x and no higher), preferably RW's if the Reader will read them. Some CD-Readers tend to "choke" at higher burn speeds.
  11. Have you, by chance, tried nLite and integrating the drivers (an INF file, NOT a TXTSETUP.OEM file). Drivers are here. Extract the driver package (VIA 4-in-1), extract the contents of the EXE, and integrate the VIAMACH.INF, the VIAIDE.INF, and the VIAAGP1.INF. There's another package for the Integrated AGP and the Sound as well. Your "error" symptoms are unclear with a statement like "kept getting errors saying that the file that was copied is not valid". We need the EXACT message. Question - is this an "unaltered" W2K? edit - No wonder it installs on 440BX, since Intel drivers are "preintegrated" whereas VIA are not (AFAICR).
  12. Ghost Explorer should be able to access the GHO image(s).
  13. I always sort them to ensure correct order. If I have one that needs dates in a certain order (e.g. "addons" etc) I just alter the date/time accordingly.
  14. nitro322 hasn't posted since 10 June 2010. Suggest you look at the "not supported" sticky and you will see - However, from what I can tell (unsure) you want to replace the INNOUNP with this. However, if you mean Indigo Rose Setup Factory, maybe not? In "Feature Request"
  15. Look here. The Vista driver should work. edit - and it would be REAL NICE if you reported back to change this to "Solved"?
  16. CABARC error suggestion (temp workaround) - Get it ONCE into a separate folder. If FTP Download Failure, REM the line in the Script and Copy the backup to the folder (as the Script deletes everything but the actual Fixes).
  17. May I ask what "Options" you use? That seems a bit odd...
  18. Win32/Virut - from MS Hmmm...Otherwise, I'd say you've probably done properly AFAIK...
  19. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314063 3d party hardware (drivers) or software. Suggested from KB article (assuming software problem) - Otherwise, it suggests a "repair install" (we won't discuss that yet, as there are "rules" you must follow to do that). If you are able to get to that KB article, read Part 1 - "Hardware" (could be RAM even...). Note: "TPSMainWnd" appears to be a TouchPad file... Spiders - hmmmm... better crack the lappie open and check for "stuff" inside (clean it!).
  20. List of CD attached. Note the filenames (you already listed a few...) (and, yes, the folder dates are different - it was a CD "dump") win98sr1en.txt Basically, find the files and you have SP1. edit - and this "Windows Update Windows 98 Service Pack 1 X04-93664"
  21. http://pc.wikia.com/wiki/Windows_98_Service_Pack_1 Please note that it came out on a CD... (I have it) More here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/234437 And here - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc751439.aspx
  22. ????1 - First, create a download folder, then download, unzip, and run the "base" package in that folder. 2 - Then in a separately created folder, download the IE8 "add-on creator" and the three IE8 Updates into it and run the Add-On Creator. 3 - Delete (or move elsewhere) the three IE6 Updates mentioned and use instead the IE8 set (total of four files). The above method may help your confusion (you could just do step#1, then step#3, then step#2 in the step#1's folder). Your highlite says it all... edit - Oops! -X- already posted (day late, dollar short...)
  23. You could download them, but you'll need a CMD (or "other") script to install them. nLite integrates for the purpose of (generally) New Installs. Alternative? AutoPatcher, however you will still have to update each and you may have to repeatedly run it until completely updated.
  24. ? "Dual Monitors"? You could provide more specific information (including as requested above). Monitor Make/Model? (associated .INF-ormation file) Projector Make/Model? (associated .INF-ormation file) Video Card Make/Model? (associated Driver/.INF-ormation file)

    Boot error

Hmmmm. I just noted something - What type of PC is this? (I've gone through the thread and if info was there I missed it?) Hardware errors will occur if it's "nasty" inside. Any number of things can go wrong, including the CPU overheating. You DID say "4 years and then it fails"... A can of "dry air" and cracking it open, blowing it out, and closing it up (check the cables while you're at it) might "fix" it... P.S. "lappies" (afaik) may be more prone to being "dirty" since there is way too little "space" inside... Every indication (even searching the internet) points to some kind of intermittent hardware problem.
