  1. have you tried using the built in back up features in vista?
  2. try reburning a copy of vista to new media, use the slowest speed your DVD burner has. might be an error on the media
  3. 3.8... curse you slow CPU!!!
  4. you do realize all the problems you have listed have been with 3rd party software, MS has made changes to their OS, now the software vendors need to make the corrisponding changes to their software. they have have not had to make a major change to their software in the last 8 years or so (2000 through XP) now vista has changed many things and software vendors need to catchup.
  5. correct, X: is used by the PE when it starts, it always uses X:
  6. yeah ripken i know what you mean, the install process defiantly take advantage of faster systems power now, ~30 minutes for my whole install. that also included office 2007

    RC1

Correct, RC1 became available for all beta testers yesterday night, MSDN and technet subrscribers will most likely be next and then public download will begin sometime next week (that is my bet).
  8. you probably freaked out the OS, probably a different chipset on the MOBO and everything, if you want to run it on a different machine i would suggest a clean install of it, or you will have nothing but problems
  9. well i am glad it is working for you now, kinda strange it jsut kicked in but that is ok RC1 will be out here pretty quick so you will get to try it with that build also
  10. expect to see RC1 for public download sometime monday or tuesday. Darn it BIOhead you be me to it, burning the DVD now curse the going out and sleeping in thing today
  11. are you building this XML file through the WAIK and the WSIM? if so 5384 is the only build available that will install propely with the autounattend.xml file, new build have been changed tremendously and will not work correctly.
  12. Since RC1 has been released (5600) you probably just want to wait till sometime this week when it is released for the public again
  13. yup good to hear X86 CRC: 0xB3519FCA SHA: 0xE00B4EBBC81FB420CF047973B95A9CFB7CDF51B7 vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-LR1CFRE_EN_DVD.iso X64 CRC: 0x59C867D0 SHA: 0x8E4DE7A72C828A3543FF1663243EB0836DA07EEA vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x64fre_client-LR1CxFRE_EN_DVD.iso i guess this weekend is a rebuilding weekend
  14. RC 1 will be out in september, 5536 is PRE RC1
  15. sure we can do that, check you BIOS version and see if htere is an upgrade for your motherboard, it maybe the problem, also install vista with the least amount of pci and adapter cards you can (sound cards HDs, CD-roms etc) 1 DVD rom 1 HD and everything else that you need for the compy to start, if it still errors then your mobo or drives may not be campitble with vista yet
  16. i have had no issues with WMP 11. what format are the songs? wma, MP3. some other format? what kind of sound card are u using
  17. lol, that is why he suggests using the vista upgrade advisor first to see if you should dload it or not. thought the advisor does not work well at all. also you can't download IE7 for Vista as the version that is builtin is different then the XP version of IE7
  18. since 5552 was never release as an offical build to testers it is considered warez
  19. There should be a 64-bit vista RC1 but i couldn't say for sure, i would expect them to release one but till the release date that is up for question
  20. can you ping any webpages, what about DNS, where are you getting your IP from... more information would be helpful
  21. 5552 is not a supported build, this was an internal build that was released by some at MS
  22. your best would be to get the full version if you want it, if you are a college student check with your school to see if you deals from MS ( Most do) on software. your schools library or IT dept would know.
  23. i will second that
  24. 5552 was a leaked internal build that was not suppose to go to testers. was leaked by someone internally at MS.
  25. techinically no it won't, (thought you shouldn't be doing if it is, but that is a morallity thing) with the upgrade anything from the XP install is gone and only vista remains, NOTE:if you ever have to reinstall Vista you won't with the upgrade, you will have to reinstall XP then upgrade it to vista again. the downfall of the upgrade option
