Inventory and License Management in Active Directory
fizban2 replied to Gaprofitt's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
or you can just register as MS partner and receive welcome kit with bunch of software and licenses for as low as 300 US$ ... just buy extra CALs Action pack is only suppose to be used for demo and test not live production -
cluberti, on a 2.4 core duo, 1 gig ram, x64 5744, i see almost no paging until i start at least 2 VMs regular usage and application open sees very little page files usage. nothing irregular on UAC or activex prompts. only using permon though

Exchange IMF on 2003: Before or After SMTP Relay?
fizban2 replied to mojoxp's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
if you are going the 2007 route why don't you demo 2007 for them? both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions are available for users to test. I have setup both and they both are both testable and able to to shown off (2007 exchange is so much sweeter then 2003 imo) remeber you will have to extend your AD schemes at both the child and parent levels of the domain for exchange 2003. how old are hte servers you will be reusing? are the 64 bit capable? if so it wouldn't be a bad idea to show off some of the 64-bit capabilites of exchange 2007. i guess it all matters how soon you want to migrate to it. -
cluberti, what are u using to capture the occuernces? just the perfomance mon?
-
the problem isn't with more then 2 gigs of ram, with 1 gig or so then you start to see the paging issue,

Exchange IMF on 2003: Before or After SMTP Relay?
fizban2 replied to mojoxp's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
it so would you be using a front end - back end solution? if so and the front server would be the one that gets mail first it would do the message filtering there, then pass the email to the required servers (ie exchange back end or lotus server) check out this article to see how the filters are applied in exchange 2003 SP2 http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/order-...rs-applied.html http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Migrat...-Connector.html and bravo on the move! keep us up to date on how it goes i would like to geta little info how smoothly it goes for you guys, trying to work my company onto the same track -
you would have to audit the security log to look for successful logons, another way to check would be by last logon date, or last modified date for files for each users profile. This may help you more cause then you know which people have used it recently john brown could have logged on 420 times last year but left the company this year and mike smith has just taken over for him
-
you could chain method to patch the files, but why would you want to? it would be doing the same thing as adding them to the updates folder. note, just checking the TR2 files, there is no MSI files, only MSP. so truly the only way to do the update is through the setup file or by adding the files to the update folder

the MCSA books are good, just very very very dry reading, you get the material but you have to have an already near ready understanding of what you are reading for it to work, that is why it doesn't work well for most poeple i would recommend Testout software http://www.testout.com/ their software is the best i have encountered and the instructors in the video really do a good job of teaching you what you need to know. *Warning* the software is expensive but you get what you pay for.

"The need for backup is directly proportional to the amount of grief that you would have if your data (in this case - Exchange databases and transaction logs) disappeared today." LOL, Oh that is one good article, nice find cluberti. you know where all the good stuff is

Restart the POP3 service and connector on the box, check the pop3 connector to see if anyone had been added on accident to it (doubtful but one thing to check)

I lost my RC2 Download, and now MS has closed the site !

andre is right, RC2 was only out a short time because of the time frame MS has to inplement fixes based off of it. -
rc2 x64 not being recognized by nvidia 96.33 drivers?
fizban2 replied to croc's topic in Windows Vista
Well, I'm at least getting a 5.9 from ny piddly 6800 ultras ;-) but windows stills thinks my two ultras are gt's :-( I put in an error report to Nvidia, but don't really expect to get a response, based on previous experience. But at least x64 bit loaded with no issues, and so far is quite stable. Not one bsod so far... If it stays this way I'll be rapt! agreed, I also am only able to use one core of my 7950 right now too becuase i cannot get the nvidia drivers to see both cores... *sigh* this is the first time the 64-bit Vista OS has worked so well for me, besides driver issues but that is more a manufactuer issue then an OS issue. everything moves very quickly, moving back to the vista WDDM drivers i get my 5.9 back strange though my CPU rates at a 5.8 in 32 bit (6600 core 2 duo (2.4))) and only a 5.3 in 64-bit, is this because of higher end chips being available for 64bit (XEON, opteron etc?) -
Ah good book, i would higly recommend it also, but set aside a week or so to read it it is very consuming but you learn tons. Let not forget that the limit is much higher in x64 bit computers.
-
I have seen this issue, but i do have a laptop with 512 ram that does write out to page very very often when i have a few apps open, on my test machine i will pull a gig of ram and see how much that changes vista's preformance. out of curiosity what HAL does your vista machine see? (not really related but a question of my own)
-
your beta key will only work for Ultimate edition, if you do not enter a CD key i think you only get 7 days to enter one before vista will no longer work
-
go here to download the mobile device center for Vista RC1, not sure if RC2 will work with it but it should http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx

unattend/sysprep/imagex errors
fizban2 replied to androidtopp's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
the BDD is built based on a specific version that is out at hte time, this was the same with all the previous versions on the BDD. i agree it does make it hard to test if there has been any changes in newer build but MS only gives out ctp build to select partners. and sadly i don't know any of them we will just have to wait, november is right around the corner and with that Vista will RTM and the BDD will be finalized. if you have bugs or issues with the current version that is available make sure you post them up on the connect website so that MS can look and make sure they are taken care of -
rc2 x64 not being recognized by nvidia 96.33 drivers?
fizban2 replied to croc's topic in Windows Vista
same issue, drivers are recogonized and i am getting a one with a Evga 7950gtx ah sad sad day -
make sure you log those bugs! this is why we get the beta sofware so we can sort out this crap that is done wrong before the final product makes it to the masses
-
it isn't a Vista issue as much as unattend issue, the propblem lies with the code that deals with your sysprep, it will be fixed but i am sure not till RTM, did you post the bug to the BDD 2007 forums on connect?
