  1. vista will only be a VPN client, cannot host clients, ICS (internet Connection Sharing) will be avialable like in XP
  2. Sal, for all these pages that don't load, have you been able to ping them? does the DNS resolve correctly? if not can you ping the IP address of the website instead? an option to check is turning of IPv6, some providers are not using this yet and it can play havoc with a DNS resolution.
  3. set a standard for USB devices, maybe start selling them in the library. USB drivers are pretty generic you will find if you go out and look at them,
  4. you would need to setup a mail-enabled contact for each mailbox representing each of the email you would want to use, then you could send as each of the additional e-mail addresses. that is a feature alot of people are looking for
  5. vista uses around 10 - 12 gig it self, there are features like VSS (Volume Shadow Copy) and other features that use extra space to, it wouldn't suprise me if you check the windows folder and you see most of hte space you are missing is listed there.
  6. sadly no, i turned off the firewall, i am wondering if it is an actaul error with the NIC itself, i will replace it tonight and try again
  7. you mean a reverse lookiup zone? no i have not created one yet. though i shouldn't need one, if my DNS server cannot find a proper record it should use one the forwarder DNS server to resolve the DNS name. but it is broke at that point Note: think i have narrowed it down further, it seems i can ping my gateway to the internet (72.x.x.x) but not the internet DNS servers (24.x.x.x) or any outside IPs, when i hook my modem up to my machine, i can ping both DNS servers and IPs on the net. any thoughts why this would be happening? bad nic?
  8. ok, just rebuilt a server, part a testing domain i have, DC, DNS, DHCP all installed and working, lan side (192.168.0.1) has DNS set to 127.0.0.1 to hit the Internal DNS server first then has internet DNS server in the forwarders. setup RRAS for my internal and extrernal NICs. everything should be peachy at that point but i can't resolve domain, i know it is a DNS issue but can't figure out what. i can ping IPs but not domain names. Any one think of what i am missing?
  9. what problems are you having with it? are the drivers not showing up? is the unattend file not working? could you give a little detail as to what the issue is with it.
  10. i have inserted all drivers that i have needed for dell machines without issue (except gx620 desktops and laptops, the NIC drivers were messing up)
  11. 80 gig HD is 40 bucks on Newegg, i know no one likes to spend money but HD space is cheap
  12. lol, vista isn't even out yet, sound programs are going to be a crap shoot since the sound stack was redone, something work well and other don't work at all (creative)

    BSOD

Wow! Sounds like Microsoft majorly messed up! stablility with Vista has been excellant so far, it does seem to have more stringent requirements for the quality of ram, so something that will work with XP may not work with vista, i have found that with 2 sticks of memory. Worked fine with XP, tried with Vista and BSOD.
  14. new Office 2007 version compatible with RC1 check it out here Office 2007 downloads at MS
  15. the whole audio stack was rewritten for vista, companies will have to take a look at their software and upgrade it to suit these changes, check with the the software vendor, if they aren't around you have to look for an alternative, might want to wait till Vista RTMs most companies won't start offering vista compatible stuff till then
  16. preformance has improved greatly since the 52xx builds, you would be fairly suprised with the gains you would see now i would think, depend on your system though
  17. ask and you shall receive... :-D i guess i can take down my bug about not having a new version of the BDD 2007 on connect then huh downloading now
  18. i would try it, i have had good luck lately with drivers from MS, if not go to your hardware vendors website and grab the latest drivers
  19. Increase the virtual machine memory to 512mb+ from the standard 128mb, or it won't install. (ps. if your pc only has that amount of memory(512) you will get a error message, so try increasing the virtual machine memory a bit at a time until the error messages stop.) Vista needs 1gb memory to run at all! wrong, 512 is sufficient, use 256 (300 in a VM to make up for ram lost to video) for your VM and it should boot. 1 gig is recommended for vista but 512 is alright, i run several laptops and desktop with 512 and with Aero turned off it is fine
  20. i have seen this before, check to see if there are any newer drivers for your wireless card, if not submit a bug report
  21. actaully the BDD that will work with RC1 is not available to all testers (unless it was released last night ) just checked, not one there, the BDD build only will work with a corrisponding version of vista that was released when the BDD was released (ie 5384 will work with the current BDD 2007 build available). hopefully they will release a BDD build we can use soon
  22. glad to hear you got it working kartel, bet it was an interesting jump from 98 to vista
  23. Note for all, i will be doing an updated Unattended Vista somtime next week or the week after, i have 2 MCP tests then i will be back into vista full force
  24. check system32 for winload.exe, that is a really wierd issue
  25. at that point if it works with IE and not with FF, you may have to wait to see if it is an issue with the way FF is coded. if you look at the link he provided, there is a selection for firefox also...
