  1. i would defiantly check the CRC values of the file before buring again, burning on another computer other then 98 would most likely help as well as 98 does not handle file bigger then 2gig well at all
  2. another alternative to just turning off the password, just create an account that has read access to that folder, make up a username and password that will be easy to give out
  3. make sure you don't turn off the OOBE setting, (the create user wizards steps and such) this has to be enable in the WAIK and WSIM when you are making your unattend file unless you specifiy an account to create during the unattend.
  4. X86 CRC: 0xB3519FCA SHA: 0xE00B4EBBC81FB420CF047973B95A9CFB7CDF51B7 vista_5600.16384.060829-2230_x86fre_client-LR1CFRE_EN_DVD.iso there is the CRC and sha values you can check but sounds like to dload didn't finish all the way, 2.59 gig is the vista size
  5. ahh my mistake, did not read it right
  6. the games used in Vista run with the DX10 DLLs and resoucres, these can't be backported to XP. there was a cleve person earlier on in the beta cycle who ported the games to XP, if you do a search in google i a sure you might be able to still find them
  7. nice article charli, i agree, vista has still a bit of a way to go, there are some things that they need to really work on, this really should have been listed as Beta 3 according to the way MS has always released older software. but since this is the RC tree now and they have left the beta tree for builds it is a release candidate in their eyes. lol ahh you old guys and your set ways like you said though, there will be several RCs before they get to the final RC, just look at 5356 (or what ever build that was), we will see another build or 2 before they hit the final RC, s*** just have to move fast. that is all. the feet dragging on things will have to stop. what domain issues do you have? i have 7 vista machines running in my forest right now with no UNC or gpo issue, domain trusts are enforced also.
  8. MS uses their ISA server product to create the transparent effect you are talking about, both XP and 2003 support this you just usually have to specify the proxy in your IE settings. we use this at my work
  9. Just wanted to get a rough look at how many people actually submit bug reports to MS, i don't care if nothing happend becuase of the report or if you never heard anything back on it. just wanted to see overall how many people actually take the time to submit Bug reports to MS i know i have sent in about 14 reports, maybe a few more but that is the best to my knowledge how about you guys?
  10. everyone should install vista weither it works or not. the more poeple who install it and find problems and report them (yes report them!! and to MS not just a forums someplace) the better chance we get of having those bugs taken care of by the time RTM happens.
  11. i agree with kaliska, you will save yourself hours upon hours of headache if you have alteast 2 DCs, one goes down the other picks up the slack while you fix the first one. it is worth the money of a server to do it
  12. page is down kabix, i'll let crahak know.
  13. i believe small business and up, home version again will lack the ability to join a domain
  14. didn't think you could drag a non DC coomputer into that OU, ahh well live and learn. 4. look at the examples chili left, those are really good, sebnetting helps when you are trying to break up users because a network segment is saturated with communications or when you have users at different phycical locations or floors of a building etc. unless those additional 10 user use a huge amount of BW you probably don't need to subnet yet, unless you are looking to break up your network segments and make them more efficent
  15. depends on the position, is it entry level admin work? or senior admin? makes a big difference, entry level questions i have seen what are the private IP ranges, 10.x.x.x etc what is SMB, What are SVR records, how do you configure a network printer? GPO questions OU and Group creation questions, if exchange is in the mix Routing group setup, creating routing group connectors, mail-enabled user creation or group creation. mail backup and restore. a really good way to test someones skills is to have a test domain setup (VS server 2005 with domain, exchange etc) break a few things and tell them things are wrong with the domain and they need to fix it. just things i have had to do in interviews for some admin level jobs,
  16. depending on what you want to monitor, perfmon or sysmon will do the job and get you some good information, run it from another PC to get a good read of the machine you want to get performance of
  17. sadly i don't think he did that...
  18. beta 2 keys will still work as long as you have not used your 10 activations up.
  19. i would wait for a compatiable version of one care for vista, since the networking stack in vista was rewritten i doubt you could get the AV scanner to work properly. also why the Firewall scanner will not start.
  20. RC1 became available on monday, so you better hurry i would bet it will be done soon, at this moment in time (as of this writitng) there no beta keys available from MS, this should be rectified sometime later tonight or tommorow, http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/rc1/en/download.htm you can download either x86 or 64 bit versions of the OS here.
  21. it is probably still modifiable, but there is possibly a new XML tag for it. good work on the unattend, hopefully a new version of the WSIM will be out soon for RC1 and i will update the Unattend i did before.
  22. was this a clean install? or an upgrade from a previous version of XP or vista?
  23. more of a security thing, like you said you upgraded from XP or installed to another partition, those files were already owned by another OS, vista recogonized this and choose not to overwrite the permissions for your XP install.
  24. 1) unless the server is a DC you will not be able to drag it to the domain controllers OU. 2) ISA server should be part of the domain so it can be managed, but this is your outlet to the internet. everything gets funneled through the ISA server 3)Sharepoint Services (or windows Sharepoint Services) is a free version of windows Sharepoint Portal. Windows Sharepoint Services check it out there to see what you can do with it 4)Subnet mask helps you to keep different IP ranges sepreted and tells you what parts of the IP are used by the network and by the user
  25. vista does not change permissions on files on secondary drives, you will have to take ownership of those files first then you wil be able to write to them
