  1. installed and working good thanks ripken!
  2. i did download the drivers last night for x64, but didn't get to install them, i'll try them tonight when i get home
  3. 2 choices, with windows, you can change the basic disk you have into a dynamic disk. then you can extend the volume to use the rest of the space available. you can use a partition program like partition magic to extend the basic partition
  4. you can easily add WSH and HTA support, in the CHM files that come with the WAIK you can see how it is done with PEIMG, you actually don't have to add a $oem$ folder you can add your diskpart file to the system32 folder, that is what i did, or the programfiles folder. download the WAIK and read through the help files, you will find everything that your need
  5. nvidias latest drivers work for the most part but don't seem to be as stable as the windows drivers. at least for me
  6. i don't think you will find anything the is inexpensive, when you talk about licenses the app has to be able to read AD as well as scan every client computer to check to see what software and what version they have installed is. that isn't going to come cheap
  7. you can also boot from your Vista DVD and use the repair tools on the first page to repair the MBR...
  8. that is correct, but remeber, the WAIK has not changed fundementally, just the ability to work with the new version, features haven't changed (except for the activation stuff )
  9. everyone should check out the new version of the BDD 2007 up on connect, it has a some changes for the new activation scheme that windows vista will use
  10. you need to run the backup using shadow copy, during the backup the mailbox DB is unavailable if shadow copy is not used, and if you are doing a full backup nightly (which you should be if the DB allows for it) then people will not be able to use mail until the DB is finish being backed up, check your backup and make sure it is using VSS,
  11. fixed it <DiskConfiguration> <Disk wcm:action="add"> <CreatePartitions> <CreatePartition wcm:action="add"> <Order>1</Order> <Size>25000</Size> <Type>Primary</Type> </CreatePartition> <CreatePartition wcm:action="add"> <Extend>true</Extend> <Order>2</Order> <Type>Extended</Type> </CreatePartition> <CreatePartition wcm:action="add"> <Extend>true</Extend> <Order>3</Order> <Type>Logical</Type> </CreatePartition> </CreatePartitions> <ModifyPartitions> <ModifyPartition wcm:action="add"> <Active>true</Active> <Extend>false</Extend> <Format>NTFS</Format> <Label>Vista-OS</Label> <Letter>C</Letter> <Order>1</Order> <PartitionID>1</PartitionID> </ModifyPartition> <ModifyPartition wcm:action="add"> <Active>false</Active> <Extend>false</Extend> <Format>NTFS</Format> <Label>Data</Label> <Letter>D</Letter> <Order>2</Order> <PartitionID>2</PartitionID> </ModifyPartition> </ModifyPartitions> <WillWipeDisk>true</WillWipeDisk> <DiskID>0</DiskID> </Disk> </DiskConfiguration> you have to also create the logical partition inside the extended partition. USB works fine too
  12. i do get the same error as you do with a USB stick, burning a DVD now to see if that will take care of the error
  13. this is an issue they have often, it is something that should really have been fixed already but hasn't. best option is a work around to change it to go to standby once you close the lid,
  14. ok same rules apply, go into IIS, go to the Virtual SMTP connector, got to properties, go into the access tab, here under relays it should be set to allow only the list below and the check box below should be checked click on the authentication button and uncheck basic and intergrated authentication if they are selected. this should take care of the issue, if you are still getting spam routed through it, under connections on the access tab you can deny access to it to the IP{ of the spam server they are sending from, or the domain it is coming from
  15. sam, how is your email system setup? is it exchange? what version? is it a front end - backend solution? we w ould need to know some of these thigns to help more to take of your initial issue of, you need to turn off the authentication, set the smtp server to authenticate anonymous. to send and receive email from the internet, you need to have the smtp server that connects to the internet set with anonymous access By default, SMTP virtual servers are configured to relay outbound messages sent from authenticated users and to relay incoming messages sent to the private domain. If you allow more open relaying, your server might be used as a spam relay where messages sent from the Internet are relayed through your server to other Internet hosts. check your Virtual SMTP server for settings about open relay (sorry can't think of exactly where it is atm) but open relay should be off (this allows spammers to use your mail server to router though)
  16. the page was avialable, but no downloads were linked yet, you could see this taunting page about RC2
  17. page has been taked down MS probably is ticked people are watching it like a hawk now.
  18. if there are entries in the unattend you don't use, you can delete them from the WSIM
  19. if you repost it inside code tages then it will keep the formating. it would make it a little easier to read
  20. hmm that is exactly what i am doing, lol, ok if you wouldn't mind posting you unattend file and related files so i could take a look? (remeber to xxx out the cd-key)
  21. i would inject all your drivers that are common for your computers in offline mode, if the only reason to go into audit mode (ie apps and such you want installed before booting for the first time, from the CHM Unattend Windows Setup Reference Build a Reference Image Scenario In this scenario, you create a single Windows reference image that you can reuse throughout your environment. This scenario involves the following steps: 1. You start with a Windows product DVD and an answer file. 2. You boot the Windows product DVD. 3. Windows Setup starts and the windowsPE and offlineServicing passes run. 4. After the Windows image is copied to the hard disk, the system reboots and Windows Setup runs the specialize pass. 5. After Windows Setup completes, the oobeSystem configuration pass runs and Windows Welcome starts. 6. You can make additional modifications to the system. Install applications, device drivers, or other configurations. this is a good time to install a common apps and drivers for your machines (ie office, adobe reader etc,) 7. When you complete your modifications, you run sysprep /generalize /audit /reboot. This command runs the generalize pass and then removes any system-specific data. Also, this configures Windows to run audit mode on the next boot (running the auditSystem and auditUser configuration passes). the Audit pass is a time where you would launch scripts and files for specific computers or roles for computers. Say you launch a script to check if a computer has a CD-burner and enable windows cd-burning, of check to see if a computer is a laptop and then install or configure VPN software for it. if you are doing other steps here it would also be a good time for drivers if you have alot of different makes and models. This image then becomes your reference image that you can save to install on computers of the same configuration.
  22. Ximage is a tool DEll uses for their standard image proccess they do for customers, i am sure MS had some issues with the 2 being names the same. Oh and do get the newest version on the tool, it is much better then older versions
  23. Probably the dreaded thermal throttling! Pentium 4s are known to underclock if overheating. Ermmmm.... Seated on the CPU is this. Don't think that the score has anything to do with thermal throttling as the CPU stays at 25-26 degrees Centigrade when idle. And why is it seen as running at 1.5 GHz? if you run cpuID on vista does it show up at the 1.5ghz? or the 3.0?
  24. remove the /audit flag from your sysprep, it should only be needed when you are going into factory mode.
