  1. Ok, i let the topic run its course, hoping we could come up with some creative ideas to troubleshoot. Didn't work, so let trying this again. Topic is closed, if you have an issue with vista (this has to be more the you "just hate it") the create a new topic and we can discuss it further.
  2. it is because vista boots into windows PE 2.0, it is an enclosed vista install on a CD or DVD, need that much ram to run everything (everything sits in ram)
  3. perfect, here is a good example of what we should be doing. Problems with features (or missing features) that you want fixed or we need to find out why it is happening, for those with free time (since i know we all have so much ) let looks at GSMs problems and see if there is a solution or another way to do it, or if it a problem that should be addressed by MS [qoute] 1:\ They say it will be easier to use, I have yet seen anything that has made it more simple to use. Example On XP I had no problem adding my Web site to My Network Places I can connect and FTP files from my Desktop to my Site with no problems. On Vista I have not been able to that at all, a simple task on XP but not so simple on Vista. [/qoute] let start with this one, lets look for a way that this can work or if the feature was removed or replaced with something else... the product only gets better with us testing it
  4. Thanks for the info Paraglide, on 5472, CA eztrust does not work, (can't get past boot up) i will give trend a try
  5. ah, that does make sense, well for testing this will work fine, thanks again Chili
  6. lol, i am sorry to hear that, our live meeting roll out when flawlessly last december, we had such a great PM, i wish they would hire him on... Anyway, on the topic of vista, i would like to propose a solution to all this madness, i would like everyone who has issues with vista to post those problems here. Again through 3 pages of comments i have not seen any specific issues with vista just generalized complaints about a beta or an incompatability with a specific software. from that point we can either prove it is a problem or we debunk the myth.
  7. chili, just tested it and it works perfecty @knbdc1.homeip.net. Excellent, i understand now cause the MX record is set to knbdc1.homeip.net, question now is it possible to do @homeip.net or not possible cause of the DNS issue?
  8. hard day at work today Albuquerque?
  9. thanks chili, i will try changing that tonight and see if it helps. my only note is this, the actual domain is network.local. the DNS name is homeip.net, based on there help for DNS for their DNS mail exchanger record i don't know if it would be better to use the knbdc1.homeip.net or just homeip.net http://www.dyndns.com/support/kb/archives/...rs_and_dns.html i added a MX record on my DNS that points from the KNBDC1.homeip.net to the knbdc1.network.local so that it can pick the the internal domain name fine.
  10. check to make sure that the hardware is working too either the 2 computers are connected or through a switch or HUB
  11. agreed, i am sure NOD is working on a vista compatible version now, just could be a hard rewrite (since that is what alot of companies have to do) we will hopefully see it when vista RTMs or soon after but who knows...

  13. thanks stick, forgot about that
  14. it sounds like you are not logging into the domain or are not connected to the domain, make sure that you are logginging into the domain and not the local machine, at the logon screen hit the options button to display where the machine is logging into, this should be set to the Domain you create on the server 2003 machine
  15. Ok, exchange question for those out there, trying to setup exchange, up and working can send email from the server out to the net, to gmail, hotmail etc, but any incoming emails will not go through, tried a tool at www.zoneedit.com/smtp.htm i can email back into the exchange server from there, so i know DNS is working well, here becomes the issue, the DNS is done through DynDNS, the IP is Dynamic so i regsiter my DNS setting with DynDNS, also registered the MX records there to and can find them with NSlookup and on the web, but when trying to email from a web email client, (gmail, hotmail etc) it will recieve an error even when replying to a email that was recieved from that address, is it something with the SMTP connector? possibly some encryption that i have not implemented or look at yet? any ideas? let me know if any infomation is needed
  16. lisp you can do GPO to setup the WSUS server on all your clients, look in the admin templates, you can find it there
  17. the NOD engine doesn't hook in right into the network stack anymore, since it was revamped, all the hooks and places that the AV companies hooked into the stack are not all there, things have to be redone. check Eztrust AV from CA, they offer a free year of it for Vista :-D you should check it out
  18. my bet would be the DVD media, reburn the disc at the lowest setting your burner has, try it again with that new DVD
  19. would you be able to post the relevant parts of the script you are using?
  20. That is correct, the default groups folders (OU's) that come with AD will not allow a Sub OU to be created, you will need to create your own OU then create Sub OUs as needed
  21. i do not believe there is a way to autologon, unless it was a registry key.. foud nothing in vista proper about it, wouldn't be suprised if itwasn't available anymore, a security issue it would be
  22. is this a test machine you setup? where are you trying to create this OU at?
  23. there might be APIS, available to do this but you would have to find those out from MS, you are talking about extremely custom work there not something you everyday admin will do. you could check out the technet forums, post in the vista forums there or the BDD forums, some of the MS peeps could give you a better clue of those APIs are available
  24. i agree, i did all the studying on my own, more then once i fell asleep while studying for it
  25. Thanks for the ideas guys, passed my test friday (cheer) now i have to get past the 70-284 (exchange 2003)
