  1. The topic might sound weird but i will describe what is the point. When you log in on your user name in windows automatically all processes have user name assigned to one another. I. e. Some processes have assigned user "System" or "Local Service" and eventually Your user name. In my case after restart/reboot all the processes have blank user name and there is only one process that has assigned usename "system". After few or more re logins I finally can see that all processes have user name assigned as it supposed to be. This doesn't disturb working on computer in almost any way. One thing is that system sees me as a completely new user and all the settings in most applications are not set - i have to set them all over. I have this kind of problem since fresh installation. I'm running Windows XP SP2 with all available updates. Core 2 Duo E4400 2GB Patriot 800 mhz LLK Gigabyte Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 If anyone had or has similar problem I'd appreciate any support.
  2. mouvda, i know how to edit and set grub menus (/boot/grub/menu.lst) but the point is when i set Vista partition in grub, i get "BOOTMGR is missing" message, neo_matrix.rs, i have no floppy disk drive O_o Can i do this from USB HDD or CD ?
  3. I have installed Windows XP and Ubuntu linux recently, everything was going fine until i installed GRUB. Last time i installed it, GRUB detected my Vista, now it detected one windows instalation and it labeled it incorrectly - windows XP is now labeled Windows Longhorn. I know i can change it in /boot/grub/menu.lst but now i cannot boot my Vista. I have installed all systems on one HDD, Windows Vista is on C or sda1, windows XP is on D or sda2 and linux is on drives from sda5 to sda9. I doubd that Vista instalation DVD will do, last time i tried to recover that file and installer was scaning for a long time and it failed to find any problems. This might have appeared in this forum unfortunetly I'm little lack of time so im unable to look for this issue here. Thanx in advance.
  4. Windows Media center Acts Strangely, it flashes monitor and it has much slowdowns, maybe it ic caused bu orginal drivers, but i noticed that i cant use it normally. I didn't use WMC in RC1 so i'm unable to say if its worser or better but the issue has occured.
  5. To be honest, don't use Vista for gaming. Both Drivers are not stable enough to provide full compatibility with games. I use RC2 Vista Drivers, i don't know why on NVIDIA Drivers (x64) i can't use areo. I mainly use Vista to test Office efficiency, not gaming performance, i do encourage people to test it under gaming performance angle - in future drivers'd be more stable and compatible with devices.
  6. OK and all of you are running 32 bit version ? I have 64bit version and latest drivers (today 96.33 are latest). Maybe because i'm using x64 that's why i have some bugs. Let me know if somebody on x64 Vista has or hasn't met that issue.
  7. I don't know if it has been said but i noticed that after installing NVIDIA Graphic card drivers windows areo doesn't work. Hovewer the Windows drivers work fine and support Windows Areo. Has anybody had such issues ? And it's not registry bug, even i fixed that in registry and rebooted windows i still wasn't able to Turn Windows Areo On.
  8. fizban2, i tried that and it didn't work. I installed New Build, and im posting new topic because new issues have came out, so forget about recovering Vista MBR, but it still can be usefull Thread for other users. All i need now is to recover XP MBR, i will try to do it under XP instalation. Thanx Anyway for Your Support :>
  9. I couldnt install latest build 5726 (or something like that) because installer (32bit version is avaliable for public use and im not a beta tester) was crashing all the time so i decided to install x64 version. I dont find much problems in this build. Back to topic. My HDD's are working fine and Vista installer sees SATA driver. What i have noticed is that i dont have bootmngr.exe and even though i installed Ubuntu and configured GRUB to boot Vista it still says "BOOTMGR is missing Press Alt+Ctrl+Del to reboot system". I need to install Vista's boot manager to SATA drive. And remove it from ATA drive. Excuse me for off topic but one time i ran ASR(Automatic System Recovery) under XP instalation to recover mbr. Is there any easier way to do that. Also i noticed that when insaller loads liblaries and drivers we can quickly enter ASR by pressing F2 key but installer wants spetial disk, how to enter ASR difrently ?
  10. gdogg, gimme a break! Dude im a linux user and im happy nvidia works harder to make linux gfx drivers work better and more effitient. Do you know how hard it was to install linux drivers in the past ? Man! now it is almost as simple as in windows! I appriciate that nvidia puts more effort for linux because (i think) it's harder to make drivers for linux which would work as fine as under windows. Back to topic. Well maybe finall version games will perform well. I ran Postal 2 and wow on XP i had smooth animation in menu and Vista has trouble with it. I dunno if it's because nvidia's x64 drivers are in development but im sure it'd run better on x86 drivers, but I dont care about Gaming. I installed vista to test it and see how it performs. I use PC for messaging, writing, e-mails etc then im fine with that build
  11. I have 2xHDD. 1st has Win XP installed and is ATA 100 HDD 2nd has Vista installed and is SATA 150 HDD One with XP works fine. Unless i connect 2nd HDD. Then i have to connect 1st to Primary Slave (Usually is connected to Primary Master). When I connect Both HDDs and 1st is on PS (Primary Slave) it screwes. I dont.. well didn't know that Vista will install BOOTMGR on my windows xp disk and now when i connect SATA HDD Vista wont BOOT. My point is can i restore MBR on SATA HDD ? The trouble is that when i boot install DVD and im attempting to fix something, installer won't see Vista instalation. I want to restore or obtain requred files to get Vista MBR fixed. I know how to fix XP mbr but i want to get those drives to work separatly sa well as together. I dont want to plug SATA HDD to other SATA channel, i just want that above. I have Vista build 5600 x64 Thanx in advance. I thought about installing LINUX - Ubuntu. Then instalation will put GRUB/LILO to mbr, but it wont solve main problem, how to restore Vista BOOTMGR.
  12. I need to change default instalation path and i wonder if i can implement this to New Build of my Windows Installation. I need it to add more programs to my instalation. Simply i need add these key to windows instalation registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion ProgramFilesDir C:\Program Files\Programy
  13. What language is it ? BTW i cant find a silent install command for FF 1.5, does /qn still work with latest release ?
  14. I guess found solution and the answer is YES! Actually its Firefox CCK version but it doesnt change anything :> Check out that link - there is article how to make unatended instalation and how to add plugins at the same times. http://www.mozilla.org/projects/cck/firefox/wininstall.html
  15. I have been using nLite for some time and it is greatest tool to make your own "win distro" . Those Add-Ons ideas are great as well but i wonder if i can change install destination. Aplications are installed to C:\Program Files\[Program name] by default. I'd like to change it for example to C:\Program Files\Programs\[Program Name] I have searched forum and havent found similar topic so i started a new one. If similar topic exists im sorry
