Routing and Remote Access - Maximum ports limit
fizban2 replied to power159's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
you can't in the the web addition, 1 is allowed so that you can connect to the server to manage it. nothing more. you will need to move to standard edition if you wnat more ports -
22 seconds to boot up on a fresh Vista installation with office 2007 and all my needed apps, it has gotten alot better, most of that time is spent on my Bios load (stupid abit)

the crack you are reffering to will not stay working long, since they are using beta 2 keys and the beta 2/RC architecture around those keys it will only be a short time before MS will read for those keys with WGA, it is simple to pick them out as vista RTM keys are totally different then RC2 beta 2 keys. the crack will work but no updates or WGA support (i know it works now but it won't stay working for long, to easy to close of the way people made it work)

your right, but that would be expect when the entire graphics rendering engine is redone (ie areo) once game manufacturers get patchs out for vista and with DX9L comes out that will go away, and truthfully i have lost about 10 fps average in all my games, something isn't even noticable to most people

the Core XML service were not rewritten for vista because backwards app compat was needed, there are lots of services in Vista that could only be changed a little because they had to preserve compatability.
-
you will get 14 days to input a key or vista will lock down, and it looks to be time compressed, no version of vista installed that fast, and i haven't heard of any miracle compression that would let them do that

Unattended Guide for Vista
fizban2 replied to Incroyable HULK's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
next monday i'll have a unattended doc written up. you will get to see the whole proccess beginning to end -
i doubt it will take 5 years again for a new OS, i think MS has learned their lesson and we will see something else in a few years VS 5 years. more then 3 and they are trying to do to much in my opinion.

Take alook at Office Sharepoint 2007 also if you are looking at Sharepoint technologies, It is a high quality collaboration platform, the beta should still be floating around but MS may have taken it off their website since it RTM'd ealier this week,

pretty sure what you enabled was SNMP, there is no SMTP server feature in Vista "Use the SMTP E-mail page to configure delivery of e-mail from Web applications that use the System.Net.Mail API. You can configure the sender e-mail address on outgoing e-mail, and decide to either deliver e-mail immediately to an online SMTP server or store e-mail on disk where it can be retrieved for later delivery. " only the SMTP send feature in IIS 7.0

ATM there is no functionality gained by moving to a LH level Domain, but there are alot of cool features for LH DCs (read only DCs are sweet!) if you are looking to test Longhorn servers you probably want to test other features as well, NAP, WDS, Core Servers etc, test them all in a TEST enviroment so you see how they will effect your domain @cluberti, last time i checked, LH DCs started at 2003 level for domain so you could add it right away. Did that change since 5600?

you are right, you would need to load the tablet extensions for vista to run the pen in PE, i am not sure if it is possible as there is most likely a dozen dependencies for it

Unattended Vista with Multiple Partitions
fizban2 replied to McoreD's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
no updates so far sadly, we most likely won't see anything till Vista RTMs, i would be within a week of RTM we will see the BDD available for download. till then nothing new will be seen i think i am going into withdrawl already -
that is right too, if vista "thinks" your graphics card is not capable of aero (even if it is) becuase of driver issues or compatability issues, it won't display aero, driver issues should be getting fixed by the companies that make those products soon, just some take longer then others
-
at this time either you will have to wait for the MUI ppack or dload the language specific version you are looking for. MUI and RTM should both be out i would just wait for it
-
all functionalitly of 2003 is available in LH, if you wanted to ADD a LH server to your domain, you could make it a DC and replicate AD to it without issue ***NOTE*** LH is still beta, please do not do this with your production environment!!! build a test environment and add LH server to see how they operate and react to your environment configurations.

Vista Unattended DefaultGateway and SubnetMask
fizban2 replied to mattffrost's topic in Unattended Windows Vista/Server 2008
one word "DHCP", many companies use it now and if you using the BDD for a large scale deployment, even to 10 -15 computers, why not use DHCP and save the crazyness of having to work with static IPs? -
AGP 4x should work as long as all the requirements are met for Aero, i don't think that the 6200 series had pixel shader 2.0 available to it, Aero Specifications: DX9 Gpu a WDDM driver supported card Pixel Shader 2.0 32 bits per pixel 128 meg on video car

Does anyone know how long vista takes to Build?
fizban2 replied to nightwolf81's topic in Windows Vista
i am sure they have battery backups, but when an entire building looses power, many machines are setup to power down to preserve their data rather then keeping going till the batteries die too for a vista build all code that is checked in needs to be compiled. and that is from every programmer! so how ever thousand odd programmers had code checked in needed to be compiled for vista that night. and since it was for RTM or a build right before RTM so i am sure a ton of code had been checked in and needed to be recompiled again. -
why use a floppy when you can use a USB key instead!
-
either by useing Ooulook forms or by using INFOPATH this would be possible, i would go with Infopath as it is generally easier to work with.

if this is only a test lab, a stub zone for each domain would suffice, on the OLD domain DNS add a stub zone for the NEW domain, on the NEW domain, add a stub zone for the OLD domain, this way you won't have to worry about recrords being passed between DNS servers (stub zone hosts only the NS (and glue records) records for the domain that it is created for.
