I have windows millennium upgrade cd. Is there a way to make it boot off the cd? You know like add a few boot files or something?

Neptune never made it past beta,but in some ways was ahead of its time. It had a gui that was a little different from 2k,used less resourses(comitt),faster booting(single user machine). It came out prior to 2k(hmmmm how interesting) but was advanced in many ways. I would still be using it but it was very touchy about drivers and installing some programs. MS decided to kill this project Windows 2k Personal Edition (Neptune) to work on Millennium sighs much. And yes I have used Neptune and like many beta it had its faults but it was a good project. Gurgelmeyer I dont know if you still have my email addy but if interested please email me. And yes Neptune was my favorite OS, sighs. I wonder if there is a way to incorporate some of the features of this into 2k? Single user enviorment (faster booting) some gui changes (not xp like) and better memory utilization(less comitt)

mitchellovision I am glad to see you back and excited again about a project You know I was pushing for your other 1 but perhaps this might be the way to go. Once upon a time MS had Windows Neptune which was win 2k personal edition some 9x stuff ported for nt( I wish MS didnt sideline this) Then Windows ME some nt stuff ported for 9x(MS decided to go this way,why I dont know) sigh I wish MS developed Neptune. I am reading post about backup software. Some back up the whole partition and some just backup the data. Which one would be best to back up the OS along with drivers and programs to make it easy to restore these in case of a castrophy?

do you know what you are asking? Yes,it can be done substuting a few files but I wont help. Just do a search for corporate files

usb 2.0 mitchellovision I think maybe your 2k cd is scratched since your cd is scratched perhaps someone might send you one maybe even a corporate cd where serial# are not needed.

I got missing dll error I wonder if a shadow of them is left over in the inf. gdogg I use firewall also so I will also try to find a way. Yhe batch file should it be executed after 1st boot, 2nd boot, 3rd boot when? Using xp home can I take out OOBE along with the oembios files?

Can you give more info please? Is the game 16 bit? Is the cd scratched? Do you have direct x? Do you have the proper drivers?

maybe not the proper way to do this but--beg,borrow or download ERD Commander Make sure bios is set to boot off cd--when ERD comes up then ou will have oppertunity to reset this--take out cd--then reboot. Might be an easier way

I had a patch for 2k3 which would activate dir x,media player,system restore and many other extras. This worked very well and had no problems with it. I will search my archives to see if I still have it. Meanwhile you can search for it online.

using minlogon will make your system boot faster. also some files out of x64 will make it boot faster
