before you give up on your hd use a diagnostic utility made for your hd. if this dont work zero fill hd and partition and reformat

I am trying to install windows 2000 on a spare HP 533 128 meg ram. The cd boots but soon I get a error about compaq array. If I delete all partitions. rebuild partitions and format will it rid myself of this error? Fixed it by expanding driver.cab delete cpqarrey.sys, open drv.inf delete reference to cpqarrey.sys

Another loss will happen when you format. The first loss is as gamehead200 said is because how it is rated. Depending on the format you choose fat32,ntfs etc you will loose about 7 to 11%. Your lose is excessive. Do you have any hidden partitions?

AHHHH I see 2k hareware was purely HAL controled where XP let some of that control to the software(drivers) I am going to add some lines of script to NT kernel and fix it but more likely than not I will

This was posted earlier but got no responce so I will post it here If I expanded xp driver cab and replaced ntkrnlmp.exe ntkrnlpa.exe ntkpamp.exe ntoskrnl.exe from 2k driver cab and modified the driver ini accordingly. Cabbed it back to LZX and put it into 2k sourse cd would the modified driver cab work? <EDIT> I think I found my own answer in case someone wants to know this NT4 and 2k hardware was purely HAL (hardware abstract layer) all the control of the hardware went through HAL In XP even though HAL controled hardware it was also software(driver control), not completly sure why MS did this. My theory is to allow more compatably with more drivers and to ease the use of resourses in XP. Please someone read this and write either agreement or disagreement because I am learning. Does anyone have experience in editing driver cab? Want to share experience?

I found a program call cab-pack. I used win rar to expand so I could edit I used cab-pack to compress it. When I compress LZX it goes from 326 meg to about 64 meg. when compressed usind MSZIP it goes from 326 meg to 128 meg. Sorry about double post I am pressed for quick answer. Which one is best type of compression for driver.cab?

Which compression is better to cab driver.cab LZX or MSZIP ? I get better compression with LZX it is about 1/2 the size of MSZIP, is it just as usable? If I want to compress a .exe to a .ex_ do I do it the same way?

I have a question and really has an alternative use besides on 2k. If I expanded driver cab of 2k and extracted NTKRNLMP.EXE NTKRNLPA.EXE NTKPAMP.EXE NTOSKRNL.EXE Expanded driver cab of xp and replaced the above files into it, recabbed it, And then placed it into 2k sourse cd. Would I have a modernized driver cab or a mess? BTW what is the easiest way to recab to the same compression level?

If this has been answered before forgive me With usp 5.0 or 5.1 is support for large HD enabled by default? GUI enhancements?

both 5.0 and 5.1 can be slipstreamed with nlite. 5.0 will fix security in 2k 5.1 will modernize it ie.. direct x, media player, and nicer gui. 5.1 is still in the making but might be worth the wait. BTW when usp is slipstreamed the source is very small cause duplicate files and drivers are elimated. When properly nlited then ZOOOOOM

the latest sp contains all the previous hotfix may I suggest using gurgelmeyer usp5.0 or 5.1
