  1. You didnt mean sharing an OS ghost87rulez ,right? now if it was publcally available This is what you ment
  2. Sorry Jeremy I am at a complete loss. I repair computers and have come across many issues both sofware and hardware. Can you clear cmos and reflash it? Clean memory sticks with a pencil erasor on the brass ends? I wish you the best and when you resolve could you post how you did it so if I come across this I can repair it. Thanks
  3. off topic so forgive me. @ fat 64 I have software that says do I want to format to fat 64. I never heard of that is there using clusters of this size> What do you use for this cluster size?
  4. I wonder if win 2k could be made into neptune? Neptune was faster booting (single user by default) had a nicer front end but not like xp (xp=yek). If someone could find an old beta of neptune to look at it just to see what could be done to 2k. Neptune actually was ahead of its time. It was going to be windows 2k personal edtion. It used some of the features that are in vista but wasnt used in xp. Better memory usage(tweaks) among other things.
  5. yes depending on the format used different % of HD space is used I dont know the exact amounts But if you use linux type of OS the loss is greater
  6. when you format HD ome data is used for the clusters and actually 8 gig is not that much out of 160. Every HD will lose some space due to being formatted. The bigger the HD the more space will be used for format. Not to worry this is normal.
  7. Uhm, BIOS doesn't load all the way and I put my hardware back to how I had it before the PC messed up and said "diskette drive 0 seek failure" so I put in the floppy and now no errors BUT it won't let me into Setup or anything. I press F2 on the keyboard but it beeps more. Is it because the CPU gets too hot? If anyone knows any BIOS tricks let me know. Jeremy the easiest thing to do at this point is to reflash the memory if possible. You said your old system was a Dell and you used the mobo out of the Dell. The mobo is propietery meaning if your new case came with a power supply it will not be entirely compatable with mobo. Try using power supply from your Dell just to see if this fixes your problem. If it does all is good if not you may have to search further. The only "brand name" computers that are not as properiety are Gatway and sometimes they may act a little funny when using non Gateway parts. But anyway try your Dell power supply
  8. 2 Beeps: Parity circuit failure Explanation: The parity circuit is responsible for generating and checking the parity bit on the system memory when parity checking is used. This circuitry is not working properly. Diagnosis: This code usually means a problem with either the system memory or the motherboard.
  9. hope this helps THE POST TEST Each time the computer boots up the computer must past the POST. The following is the procedure of the POST: 1. The first step of POST is the testing of the Power Supply to ensure that it is turned on and that it releases its reset signal. 2. CPU must exit the reset status mode and thereafter be able to execute instructions. 3. BIOS must be have readable. 4. BIOS checksum must be valid, meaning that it must be readable. 5. CMOS be accessible for reading. 6. CMOS checksum must be valid, meaning that it must be readable. 7. CPU must be able to read all forms of memory such as the memory controller, memory bus, and memory module. 8. The first 64KB of memory must be operational and have the capability to be read and written to and from, and capable of containing the POST code. 9. I/O bus / controller must be accessible. 10. I/O bus must be able to write / read from the video subsystem and be able to read all video RAM.. If the computer does not pass any of the above tests your computer will receive an irregular POST. An irregular POST is a beep code which is different from the standard which can be either no beeps at all or a combination of different beeps indicating what is causing the computer not to past the POST. 10. I look forward to see what can be done with neptune. It could have been 1 of the best OS coming from MS. The beta I have messed with wouldnt install some programs or drivers without BSOD---SIGH----
  11. I thought I would bring this up so people would see this. Its a very interesting issue and a silution would be great but I am at a loss.
  12. I wont work on this 1. The dlls in 95 as well as 98 first edition were flawed. It was fixed in 98 se though. I am interested in the neptune project.
  13. Jeremy 2 beeps is hardware problems not software.
  14. I heard that it is. I have tried a few times but will keep on trying. Practice makes perfect right? What is the dif between a cmd. and batch. I can convert a txt to both?
  15. must be something hp is doing to make sure everything is propietary hmmmm this sounds interesting. In the past I was able to load OS without floppies but boot off cd with HP interesting but must be vary frustrating to you. I will look further into this but I am sure there is a work around for this. I know you dont want to here this but This is 1 reason I dont use off-the-shelf puters. I like to choose the componants right for me,not for a company choose what is right for me, plus to upgrade or repair you must use propietary hardware/software. I am sure we can find a work around for this. It is is the CMOS/Bios it has some lock on it. If I suggest something at this point and it messes up your puter you will be very p***ed at me plus it may void your warrentity. Maybe someone more knowledgable can help. This will also help me as I repair computers and many I get people forget how important the restore disk is and either misplace them or destroy them. This is how I know how to do it on the older HP. Good luck and I will be standing by because this is something I need to know.
  16. HP cant load off of floppies sory, but your xp cd should be bootable. Just put cd in the tray and restart puter then install from there after a while use Nlite to take some componants out of xp and make an UACD.
  17. Can someone suggest a guide for unattended installs that is extremely easy to follow? Is there a program that will write the script and insert iy into the proper place? What is the difference between a command and a bat? Where is 1 pefered over the other 1?
  18. Aegis What are you looking for perhaps I can help.
  19. I am learning all I can about windows and I am at the part to learn how to expand cabs edit them and then recab at the same rate as before. Also will this work on EX_ files? Please help
  20. May I suggest using Nlite to strip out unneeded parts of the OS and disable unneeded services and it should run very well on your machine. As far as the expiration on a beta Yes it will expire But.......
  21. You still have email addy. Thanks. With the first suggestion I tried this and when it reboots during install and boots back up the installation starts fresh, this is not good will never get it installed that way. With win iso you may be able to extract the boot files from millennium. I made a batch file where millennium will install without serial# though.
