I have my taskbar at the top of the window as well. Especially with a widescreen this is kind of helpful because the height of the screen is not as great as the width of the screen. And yes the menu drops down as nospoon pointed out. If I had the taskbar at the bottom of the screen then I would have to scroll through the Programs list.

the best reason for Vista, is simply because its up-to-date
suryad replied to ps24eva's topic in Windows XP
Instead of arguing amongst each other and idle speculation and so on, why dont we just wait and see what happens when Vista comes out. If it is a bombshell in a good way then we upgrade....if not then we have alternatives...its only an OS! -
haha its funny and rather pathetic at the same time!

That is pretty cool. Nice work.

Hehe they just seem more annoying than funny lol

AMD hands down has the better design. Intel focused on getting higher clockspeed and AMD focussed on lower clockspeed but higher performance and scalability as well. Intels dont scale well at all. In fact there was a test where they oclocked an Intel P4 to 5.2 ghz and it still could not beat a stock AMD FX part. I dont remember the exact details but I think hexus.net ran that article. I think the main culprit for Intel is the fact that its data pipeline is a whopping 31 stages in the Prescott processor. Heck a 3.4 ghz northwood is faster slightly than a 3.4 ghz prescott....and produces way less amount of heat! AMD reportedly is already working on producing the next generation of 64 bit procs with all new architectures and so on. And if you notice the Intel roadmaps they are more focussed on the Pentium M architecture which just happens to be a derivative of the Pentium 3 architecture IIRC.

Or you can get an FX and oclock it. Get a liquid cooling setup. And if you are even more radical then get the X2 and oclock both cores, liquid cool your comp, get SLI and get 2 x 7800 GTX 512mb versions coming soon and oclock them for starters. If you want even higher performance then go with a Crossfire setup and get 2 x Radeon X1800 Xts.

If you bought this hdd for a laptop, sometimes the laptop manufacturer website will have certain drivers that could help you solve the problem. I really did not know that USB floppy drives required drivers...I thought they were more like plug and play.

And if u get sata 2 or sata 2.5 whichever make sure u get the ncq technology enabled hdds as well....

Ok zxian and prathap quit rubbing it in...just wait till I build my desktop...then we will compare size of harddrives officially! haha -
Not to be rude or anything but could you tell us if you are using an nLited install and how and when you got the spyware on your comp? Because if it is similar to what I am doing then I would like to top before I get spyware in my comp myself and have to reinstall everything!!!
-
So let us know why she shuts her comp screen down dude once your spying mission works out on your sis haha.

Sysinternals is just such a great site I cnat believe I didnt know about it for so long!

Nice dude! My most shrunk down XP iso was around 150 mb. The recent one I had to create because of the Ryan pack not allowing me to update was around 200 megs...yes it is kind of bloated but I went a bit easy on stripping out stuff from XP like OUtlook Express just in case I will need it in the future when I install Office 2k3 on my comp.
-
MAybe we should sticky this thread because a lot of people posting on this forum have had similar problems. Heck I know I did and in fact I had to go back and make a brand new install cd for XP. On a related question though, using the Ryan pack, besides the convenience of not needing to waste time updating XP, what are the other benefits? Less space taken up after updates?

the best reason for Vista, is simply because its up-to-date
suryad replied to ps24eva's topic in Windows XP
While I must say that my curiosity about how Vista turns out is enormous I am just not ready to let go of XP. With community projects like nLite and MicrowinX and with the upcoming SP3 which hopefully will have a crapload of fixes and all the "pillars" of Vista being ported to XP, I dont see any reason to upgrade to Vista. Sure if I buy a new comp and Vista comes bundles with it then that is different. I just dont see besides a few cool things the requirement to upgrade to Vista. If the improved graphics driver setup in Vista turns out to be what it is being claimed on paper, it should result in dramatic boosts in gameplay because of the driver model being way more efficient compared to what we have today. That is the only compelling reason I see for me to get a copy of Vista so I can once in a while play the latest and greatest of vdo games. Barring the above mentioned reason, and some security enhances I dont see the reason to upgrade to Vista. Now if MS has something up its sleeves, like really high perofrmance from apps installed on Vista, then they have a Vista convert in me! And couple that with nLite for Vista or MicroVistaX haha and then I will think more about making a switch to Vista. Till then I will be happy with an ultra tweaked and smokng fast XP setup. -
What my next question would be and I am sure there are a few members with this question in mind (I hope) is how other users are going to be able to attain the same results as the MicrowinX project that you have attained...I mean is there going to be an automated tool that will customize the original XP cd kind of like nLite? Or is there gonig to be a detailed guide that will be developed by the people involved in the project for users to use? Hope my questions made sense. Thanks for all replies.
