  1. I think the prob was removing the hdd from one machine and putting into another.
  2. Haha yes I did...but I dont have experience using a few of the softwares I guess and that is why I am kind of lost I guess.
  3. I have a feeling that I am the only one who is kind of lost as to the entire proceedings of how to get Mindows working...
  4. Great topic Gouki I was gonna post on this ...but u beat me to it haha...anyway does the browsers associate WMV files then to Media Player Classic automatically or some registry hacks are needed to achieve that?
  5. Really performance went down? How do you figure Sonu yaar?
  6. Ohhh the TEMP directory! I forgot about that! Would you recommend removing the uninstallers? How do I go about doing that?
  7. I am curious...how does it work? It is for embedded xp setups I believe right? How do you get minlogon to work with a standard yet nLited XP install?
  8. I just nLted my system like yesterday and originally the Windows directory size was 546 mb...and then it slowly increased to 802 mb ...all I did were install some of my programs and some hotfixes...and after not installing anything for a while I still see the size of the directory getting larger and larger...now its @ 805 mb...can anyone explain why?
  9. Hey msfn11 no my service remains running. I dont have a problem with it. But in your message it says the service stops running but it starts back up if you reboot it? Err I dont quite understand.
  10. Thanks for this info. Please let me know if the command is CALL or START.
  11. Yes I believe he means to go to that particular node in the registry and create the DWORD there and yeah the default is set to 0 so you are good.
  12. Man you guys are hard core!! I am beginning to love this forum more and more and more!
  13. What are the comp specs? Also nLite would be of great benefit on older comps...tho XP on a p3 500 with 256 mb of ram just runs fine...with an old 4200 rpm hdd as well
  14. Is it just me or does it seem like XP is a lot of work to run fast and keep it running fast? When are we gonna get an OS that remains as fast and lite as it is after we just install it? I need that...I mean I started with my windows directory @ like 550 mb and now its pushing 800 mb...and all I did are install hotfixes.
  15. Though I think SP2 is great and thats what I voted, I think that SP2 is what XP should have been in the first place...my 2 cents
  16. Ahh thats great thanks fellas...
  17. The title says it all...theres a 32 mb dotnetfx directory just wondering what it was and if I can delete it. If it is indeed the .net directory I can probably download it later from the websites cant I? Thanks in advance.
  18. Nice I should check this tool out as well. Thanks yall
  19. Hmm the only registry monitor type of program I know of off the top of my head is the Tea Timer program in Spybot which lets you know if a program is trying to mod your registry. I dont understand what exactly you are trying to do...hopefully someone else in this forum does! Are you trying to make tweaks in the registry and have it remember what tweaks you made so that next time you reinstall xp the tweaks will be remembered?
  20. So, I dont know if this is a relevant question or not, but for the members who are invited to participate in the beta, how exactly is the distribution of the binaries going to take place? Or would it be like a step by step guide of what to do...and materials needed and be a secure link....and beta testers would then go ahead with the project...building it from scratch...running it, reporting bugs and so on...? Thanks fellas.
  21. So is Microsoft Desktop manager different than the Powertoys version? The powertoys version is nice but it is kind of buggy.
  22. I think ripken is right. I have yet to experience in all my years of using a computer a hard drive slowdown because of reformatting...on the other hand performance goes by leaps and bounds...after i get done reformatting. You really should use the executive software's diskkeeper...there is an MFT option in there that increases the size of the MFT for the fastest possible file system performance...usually the space allocated for the mft is very low....with that option it increases the size of the space allocated for the MFT and it speeds up your hard drive a lot. My 2.5 inch 60 gig hdd can sustain 36 mb/s according to some tests though I am using 12 gigs of its usable 55 gigs...you should look into that. Its a very nice tool.
  23. There is an open source windows manager the name of which escapes me at the moment...but just google it and I mam sure you will get a hit or two. I tried it myself but I did not enjoy it much. It is hard to make an effective windows desktop manager I would think because Windows was not written groundup with that stuff in mind.
  24. Yeah I myself use Winamp lite and dont use the other fully loaded version of Winamp cause frankly I dont need to. I have all the features I need in a music player. And it starts up instantaneously and does not require much memory at all. Also I lisen ot ogg files as well so I have a plugin for it. Lite rocks! As for the file system option, I dont know how plausible that would be because Windows might not just be compatible with any of the JFS or the ext2 filesystems that Linux is using. Fragmentation is a problem yes...and I would love to have an fs that does not fragment as much...but I doubt it can be pulled off...but then again you guys have been donig some impossible stuff lately!!
  25. Haha then by definition of modding all of the members here who have used nLite are lawbreakers!!
