  1. Not necessarily bhurtel...but in this case you happen to be right. 10 is better than 9. I hear 11 is coming out end of this year...or soemthing.
  2. Interesting. So this seems to be more of a useful tool for sysadmins then? Managing and updating many computers is not an easy task. So while regular users just point and click...they dont expect to get much more benfits besides reduced update sizes right?

    So XPize is another theme??
  4. Thanks for all the info...and especially Alanoll's post...it is kind of amazing you guys know so much about the XP OS. I always learn something new when I visit this forum.
  5. I would not put text there...the button is rather large for my taste...so I would just leave the icon there and no text.
  6. All I want is a barebones OS. With proper networking, proper security, proper looking GUI and the ability to run any softwares. I dont need hogs running on my computers thank you very much. I think a lot of people are simply going to move to Linux...when Longhorn rolls out...it is improving like crazy and has all the transparency and 3d features already in development for Linux...it is free and the only gripe is gaming...well dual boot XP. XP has been reduced from a hog to a lightweight...I really wish Longhorn can be tweaked down as well....waaaaaaaaaaaaay tweaked down.
  7. Agreed. I cant believe people are getting so worked up over a pre pre pre crappy version of a fledgling OS. I mean come one! Its one thing to form an opinion...a kind of educated opiniong discussing the featuresets of Longhorn...but it is another thing to base all your ideas on alphas and development releases!
  8. Agreed...Longhorn is not going to be as big an upgrade as it was for the Mac community upgrading to OS X from the OS 9 version.
  9. Hmm what kind of internet do you have? Have you tried creating a new network connection and noticed this problem after that? Because that happens in XP when uhh you use your computer to dial up the dsl internet. I think there is an inherent prob wiht XP where if the network hangs kinda then everything will hang for a little bit...since explorer is so **** integrated into the os....so my question to you is do you use your computer to dialup a broadband connection?
  10. Hmm I think that would have more to do with your LCD monitor than the graphics card...if the graphics card goes bad usually what you would see is intermittent crashing and automatic rebooting of the machine prob...along with weird intereference style bands across the screen and text and images and screens not displaying properly...I think you got a problem with the monitor. My 2 cents.
  11. Interesting thread....I wish I had soemthing to add at the moment...but I think hoak is right that 2k3 has some improvments and memory optimizations that make it a slight bit faster and way more robust than XP from what reviews and so on that I have read. I am sure that XP can be emulated to follow what was done in 2k3 for similar improvements since 2k3 is based off of XP with SP1 and Longhorn being based off of 2k3 with SP1...one thing is for sure though...nuhl is going to be really busy with an nLite version of Longhorn to remove all the crap that MS is putting into it...unless I see Longhorn is faster, and improved all ways around, I think I am gonna stick with my investment in XP.
  12. Wow thats an interesting thought there...anyone care to elaborate? That would blow if there is a hotfix like that but I thought in the registry there was a way to up the number of connections.
  13. I get my a** handed in Quake 3!!!
  14. nLite, http://www.tweakguides.com/, blackviper guide...and I think you are set.
  15. Splinter Cell 4, Mafia 2, Ghost Recon 3, FEAR, Stalker, Operation Flashpoint 2. Nuff said!
  16. Tried zone alarm and always had a great expeience with it. Not sure about what other firwall softwares are out there besides ZA and Norton...but I would not recommend Norton at all.
  17. Err I thought he said that he is having problems from a CD and not the hdd...so I would think some setting of your cd drive would be the culprit...maybe its time outting or something...
  18. Me votes for Legal!
  19. Wow I didnt know that. Its kinda amazing to see that people are still writing software requiring the M$ version of Java...
  20. I guess it could be overkill but there are workstation 'versions' you can turn it into nad then it would just be a really stable, fast XP Pro...2003 > XP Pro thats for sure.
  21. Interesting...thanks.
  22. Wow...MS has their own Java version which is incompatible with the original developers of Java? Does anybody here not find that disturbing?
  23. Heh thanks for the tip Brandon...didnt know that.
  24. Whats the benefits of shrinking down various application installs well besides the fact that if you stick it on your unattended CD it will take a lot less space?
