  1. Well if the girl is a bit smart and knows that a program is running that should not be there...then she could run a google and find out about vnc. And also that comment about not trusting girls is pretty uhh interesting...you got something to tell us there buddy? haha
  2. Err did you use the ryanvm sp2 update? You could have problems because of that....
  3. Nice screenies looks a lot like Hidden and Dangerous 2 which so far is the best WW2 game I have played.
  4. Buddy I dont know how to put this nicely but the FX series from Nvidia are the worst cards ever released. You got gipped. anything below a 9800 pro from ATI is crap especially considering modern games.
  5. The 6600 gt is not worth it imo. If anyone were to buy a comp they would be doing themselves a disservice getting anything below a 7800 series. Just wait till Unreal Engine 3.0 based games come out. PEople will be running out to buy Physics coprocessors as well!!!
  6. Bigger hdds = more data per area of hdd = more performance from hdd! And Dirtwarrior you girlfriend is wrong!!! SIZE DOES MATTER!
  7. Absolutely! Especially with modern day comps pushing over 120W just from the cpu alone, I would think with the high end AS applied, you get a noticeable amount of difference in temps of the cpu.
  8. Theres also another website I found that has a few cool FF plugins ported for IE. If anybody is interested I can post the link.
  9. Hehe I believe there is an option in the properties for the start menu. Just open up the start menu right click and check out the properties and you will find it.
  10. I would go with whatever works best. since I am comfortable at extracting for my own purposes the most from XP, I will stick with it. The cost and the probs with drivers in 2k3 is not worth it to me. Sure 2l3 is a bit more stable but I dont know if it is any faster than XP because personally I have not played with it. But to me that dont justify the cost difference. If you want speed then get Gentoo and compile it from scratch and watch it rip!
  11. Agreed and I am sure an educational institution gets some kind of price breaks dont they upon purchase of new software? So I would get the Server edition as well.
  12. Haha were you trying to change the boot screen there Dion? If I were you I would reinstall.
  13. Never heard of GIMP throwing a fit because of Hyperthreading being enabled. That sounds rather funky to me. I had GIMP 2.4 or whatever the latest version is installed on my machine no prob and I have a Dell Inspiron XPS and that has an Intel proc!
  14. Haha I guess all ssters are alike because that is what my sis does ocassionaly. I just feel uncomfortable about the intrusion of privacy is all.
  15. Hmm I guess the basic idea of this software is the same as some of the tweaks that can be done in the registry files...like always unload unused dlls, and upload Windows XP codebase into memory, reduce prob of disk caching if u have a gig of mem and above and so on. It just seems to me that using that memory manager, 7-max, there could be a higher chance of some programs crashing out. Thanks for the link though.
  16. Yessir that is the tweak. Sorry I didnt post back earlier.
  17. Wha? What images are you guys talking about that are related to DirectX?
  18. Wow this is one heck of a project. And that is one small XP install. But is it small enough and yet able to theoretically run whatever programs you might throw at it besides games and browsing the net? Cause I read you were aiming this for kiosks and gaming correct?
  19. There is a tweak in the registry as far as I know that preempts Windows to load the codebase of Windows into memory. I enabled the tweak, and while my machine in general is faster, I dont see any additional memory usage. I mean with OOo quickstarter enabled I hit 150-170 mb usage of memory when I boot up that and 23 processes remaining open.
  20. Yep, I am a Paint user and I am not ashamed of it. I dont use Photoshop because honestly I dont need to. Paint takes care of my meagre requirements.
  21. Thanks I didnt know that.
  22. Doesnt nLite run on alternative runtimes as well? Is that what you are looking for? Instead of downloading the entire .NET platform the end user will have to download like a 4 mb file + your program to have it running?
  23. MS is weird about having to reboot....almost everytime you install something. Something about Linux that always got to me was that I could reinstalling drivers, updating software, recompiling the gosh darn kernel and it would maybe ask to reboot once...if that.
  24. CCleaner and System mechanic pro...once a week or once every 2 weeks and your comp will stay as good as new.
  25. So just dbl click and you are on your way to a slightly faster XP?
