Well there are not too many true 64 bit apps out. You should check out planetamd64...they are most enthusiastic about anything 64 bit!!!

WTF would vista need patches for? Shouldnt they like fix the OS from the inside instead of patching it?! I mean if MS is patching beta software already....sheesh!

fizban has a point. Realize that Vista started out as Win 2k3 SP1. It needs a lot of work before it can run games since I dont think 2k3 even had DX 9 support.

AOL just gave me a 2 gig account. I like its interface better than I do Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail.

I think overall XP is better technologically. But yes performance will be better in 98 because it is way lighter and not running on the NT kernel. 98 was a sweet OS for its time....especially 98SE. That s*** was fast and ran on underpowered systems like a dream. I honestly wish however that MS started up a 98SE development project to add new features like XP has but without the bloat...that would really really rock in terms of a gaming OS. But peronally I would not want to go back to 98se because XP does everything for me.

I am using OE right now for this one particular email because it is webmail based...I dont get spam in it and I have configured IMAP so things are working great. I love that OE is so quick to start up and that it does not use that much memory as does TB. Also the bugs in TB that bloat up on the hard drive are rather annoying. I hope they fix it soon so I can switch and strip out OE in my next nLite install.

So what does this do? I am interested in checking out but nowadays one has to be careful what one installs because it can negate all your previous registry mods.

Well I read that the UE3 engine was targetting only DX 9 class hardware from the oldes tot he latest greatest. So I think x800s should run decent maybe not at 1600 x 1200 with 16x af and 8 x aa but it will work.

Specs of the x1900 are quite clear. Check out some threads at beyond3d.com if you are interested. It will have 16 pipelines but 48 texture units. ATI has broken down the traditional meaning of graphics pipelines. I think the Nvidia 7900 is going to have 32 pipelines. What is stunning to me is that the ATI cards are performing that well with only 16 pipelines...imagine if ATI went to 32 pipelines as did Nvidia!

I say if you are going to keep the hardware around for a while, then spend as much as you can to get the choicest parts.

1 gig is a minimum standard amount of ram to have these days for optimal computer usage.

I have an old HP that my sister uses to get her schoolwork done...p3 500 with XP installed no nLite...256 mb ram and it works fine. IIRC we took out its agp card and installed a geforce4 in the PCI slot and we got a big bump in gaming performance. It can playy Ghost Recon the gold editiong without breaking a sweat. So I think the PCI card depending on what you get will help. Just go for it.

If people are playing COD2 and Quake4 then yes there is a big boost...adn that is just with a patch. If people want to get max performance from Unreal 3 based games better get your multicores out...there is a general trend for switching to dual core in the software world. I recommend dual cores wholeheartedly especially since we are getting all new engines and so on released soon. I think the CryEngine 2 will be multicore supported as well.

DigeratiPrime is right...I have also seen people sanding down the bottom of the heat sink till it was shiny like a mirror...and that helps a lot as well I have read.

Does xmplay support those streaming internet radio links that have winamp icons on them? Like for example check out www.di.fm

Hmm where did you get that number from Jeremy? Cause man with PD offline defrag and then an online defrag and then a reboot showed a few seconds worth of difference on my laptop. PD 7.0 rocks. The smart defrag option takes a bit of time though...more so than DK 9 but that is to be expected since it tries to make one huge chunk of data and cosolidate all the space...but DK never used to do that for me. Maybe DK10 does.

I think there is a coolwebshredder or some kind of a tool like that speicifcally geared to get rid of that spyware. Maybe if you used that you wont have to reinsta. But great guide. I vote to sticky it.

Copying and pasting images?! Wow is that even possible? Like I can select an image and hit Ctrl C and it will copy it or is this a function specific to LiveMotion? I dont know what Livemotion is.

MAybe you got a spyware that you removed but the registry hasnt been cleaned out yet.
