  1. That is the best post that should be stickied to show to users that not to post stuff like this if they want to get help!
  2. I disagree with both of you all. Simply because I have an old HP Pavilion with 256 mb memory and 40 gig hdd and p3 500...I am assuming he is using a P3 and it runs XP quite brilliantly with no nLite or tweaks or themes turned off. XP is quite flexible. You would be surprised. It plays games like Ghost Recon and so on with no problems at all!
  3. AFAIK the G71 is going to be tweaked a bit. But the initial looks that many hardware sites are providing is that the performance has not gone up...not by much at least...and ATI 1900s will prob still be #1. What IS of more interest though is the price for the cards which are supposedly for the top end @ $499 which is a steal IMO considering the recent prices we have seen. Also the fact that Quad SLI or should I say TRUE quad sli is coming out this March as well....so ppl can buy 4 g71 cards and slap em on and go look I saved money and now I have 4 x SLI as well!
  4. Anyone have a link to their roadmap? I read somewhere a while back that 2.1 should be out sometime quite soon actually.
  5. Cant wait to see what you come up with Aegis. Good luck in your endeavor.
  6. I can **** near gurantee it aint an SP2 problem. I would dump the hardware instead of retarding the OS. RIght now it is at such a stage you would be pretty bonkers not to use SP2 when surfing the web!
  7. Is it just me or is this kind of revolutionary technology than evolutionary? This should give the UNIX shell lovers a run for their money!
  8. Love this little program.
  9. With quickstart my OO started up instantly. I would still like a version without quickstart and have it start up near instantly. And also is it just me or has the download size increased by 12 mb approx?
  10. I like the IE 7 look in context with Vista not XP. I am getting very interested in Vista...and IE 7 will be the default browser for it...cant wait to finally play with an all new OS...really getting tired of XP.
  11. I doubt the final bit of Vista is going to take as much resources as we are worrying. And lets not forget that this is msfn we are talking about prob the most resourceful forum on the WEB when it comes to stripping out and maximizing what you can get from your OS and I am sure Vista will be no exception.
  12. God is it just me or does Vista look incredibly tasty? I cant wiat to get a copy of it....though I would most likely wait till at least SP1 is out or something. And that would prob give the nLite community for Vista enough time to develop and have a shrunk down version ready to play!
  13. For some reason my gmail still dont have that chat thing!
  14. Wow that is quite cool. I just got an Epson printer for printing dvds and so on and it works great! I wonder if these new in tray printing mechanisms will be as high quality as that.
  15. Nice find. Looks like a lot of bug fixes...but nothing to do with performance I guess. It still takes a good 5-6 seconds without the autostart feature mind you for the suite to load up. That is kind of annoying especially if I need to do a quick tweak to my doc.
  16. I would go with hardware problems. Try the suggestions already mentioned. I dont think it is a software related issue since he siad he partitioned and reformatted and reinstalled....
  17. I downloaded and tried it and then uninstalled it because it is a lot more intrusive than MS Antispyware was. Annoyed me.
  18. I dont mess with moving the page file around becasue honestly it doesnt make sense to me. The only thing I like to do with tweaking XP is to shrink the install as much as I can using nLite. That and a few reg tweaks, defrag once a month and thats all really one has to do to get a proper really fast running XP.
  19. I dont quite understand your question. This is kind of like MS's own Java though I fail to see why someone would need something like that when the original Java is cross platform as long as you have the JVM.
  20. Thats what I do as well. Wait for a bit and then wipe out the installers. Also be sure to run some reg cleaners cause there is a good bunch of crap left over after the deletion.
  21. I would agree with N1k. Do you have a backup of your registry that youc could revert to? Then it could be helpful if you could post your task manage screenie showing all the proceses running and the specs on your computer. In the meantime you could download MS Defender, Spybot, Adaware, update all their definitions and run them. Then downloade ewido from ewido.com and update its definitions, then boot into safe mode and run it. Also get CCleaner and use it to get rid of junk from your hard drives as well as from the registry. I use RegSeeker, Sys Mech 5 and CCleaner to keep the registry clean. Then you might want to defrag if your machine is still alive after this point. Also there are some registry tweaks regarding filesystems you might want to apply which I will let you know if youare interested and have made it this far! Good luck!!!
  22. I think some of the registry tweaks are a good idea and they work. Some might be more mythical of course but it is hard to say which is which unless someone has access to the Windows source code.
  23. Yeah I just read that article...yikes was the first thought in my mind. But ah well...there will be some who will upgrade becasue they want something new like me and there will be those who wont because XP is more than enough!
  24. You can replace if you mean doing a fresh reinstall with XP 32 bit instead of 64 bit.
