  1. Sniping is crap and the fact that there is no CTF mod out yet sucks as well.
  2. I am just curious has anyone ever contacted MS support for help? If so then I understand getting non-OEM....and also the 2 processor support in XP Pro, does that mean one can see a slight increase in performance with say dual core or say Intel Hyperthreading processors between Home and Professional?
  3. Thanks for the wmlite link. I should use that in my next nLite build. Unless...wmp 11 comes out by then.
  4. Err never had that kind of a problem Ivanov...wow...
  5. Err I never heard of OEM versions not being able to download updates...
  6. That is what I heard as well MS is not releasing betas anymore...only CTPs...
  7. Thanks for the ehads up on the new beta. For those who have used it and claimed it to be an improvement than beta 1 can you be a slight bit more specific as to what made you think that? Thanks.
  8. Thanks ripken for tunexp. So far I have only done reg tweaks, nLite, sys mech 5, ccleaner, pd 7 and bootvis as my weapons of choice to have a fast spiffy XP setup. There is only so much one can do to get speed. It is not like MS is handing out the source code and compilers to get each piece of software tweaked specifically for your machine. But for fater booter besides software tweaking look for really fast hard drives as well.
  9. haha with a screw. Funny. I would get Pro. Well worth it. Even though I have Home and it is visibly no different besides prob the start menu but the Home does not come with a multithreaded kernel o rsomething like that IIRC. The Pro version does.
  10. This is known stuff. But helps for a lot of noobs. I have these tweaks enabled and several others that despite increasing the shutdown time, clears out all the contents of the pagefile. Keeps the machine sluggish-free.
  11. Thanks for the info Payne, but I want to know if there are possible side effects. Wouldnt 2 gigs of RAM and a clean reboot provide the best testing numbers as game benchers should be using real world scenarios and not a clean slate when testing?
  12. Agree with ripken. Anything below 1 gig is not worth it at all. Hell I am thinking of upgrading to 2 gigs. It is so much better to not have the game stutter because the hard drive is thrasthing trying to load up this and that when with > 1 gig of memory everything can be loaded up even for BF2.
  13. I have an agp 8x on my laptop....Dell XPS. I play BF2 @ 1600 x 1200 med settings. I think it is your graphics card. Cause I have the same Intel chipset as you do.
  14. I dunno I think a default XP install with whatever software a person uses installed, XP does tend to use over 200 mb of memory. I think his memory is fine.
  15. Haha had I known this a while back I would have definitely not gotten an all new copy of XP!! I didnt know Dell's OEM cds had the key hidden like that. I did think about it but I just didnt know where to search. Good stuff gamehead!
  16. Cluberti...very good post. I personally have Windows managing my page file.
  17. Whoa that is weird. What firewall are you using?
  18. Err you might want to take a look at your title...it kind of does not make sense but anyway I think it is the directory where Windows files are stored so when you update or do some changes to your operating system itself, when it requires some files it wont ask for your OS CD.
  19. Hmm I am kind of confused as to how this works. Doesnt look like it is XP compatible to be. So it is prob specifically for Linux users? I could be wrong but it has been a long night!
  20. While on this topic has anyone of you used awk or sed?!?! That thing is nuts to decipher for the uninitiated!
  21. LLXX I didnt know that. Cool bit of info. I would suggest a brand new hdd ASAP.
  22. Dang why the heck did it post my post 3 times?!
