  1. Hi, Rosey, it'd be better to source an LGA775 board instead of 478, trust me. And it pairs with GT9400 much better, period correct. EDIT: not saying your choice is bad, no . 775 is much quieter. seeing your concerns about the noise and whatnot.
  2. Hi, a very nice topic indeed ! What else one could expect from @AstroSkipper ! Found an antivirus programme for you, for XP. "Protects removable disks against "autorun viruses" https://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Security-Related/Anti-Autorun-7.shtml
  3. I understand the worries, how about Kontron S&T AG then ? A very German company, they don't look like communists to me. I once had their motherboard. "The corporate group is headquartered in Augsburg and consists of the Kontron Europe GmbH and Austria-based S&T Group." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kontron Kontron motherboards look very cool. And they have my favourite PS/2, this one is with SLI support. https://www.kontron.com/en/products/d3642-b-uatx/p157721 Benefits of Kontron motherboards )from their page): Highest quality through German engineering and production Strict lifecycle management and reliable product maintenance Comprehensive feature and tool set Excellent technical support Beneficial total-cost-of-ownership Not a word about Taiwan ! Looks like there's a free HDD repair tool from an author from your country ! Description of program : "HDAT2 is program for ... ATA/ATAPI/SATA, NVMe, SSD and SCSI/USB devices. This program cannot be run in DOS mode under Windows, only under real DOS system." Be warned, I never tried it . I never repair hard disks with errors, only put them to the garbage. https://www.hdat2.com/
  4. jaclaz, you're right ! Cheap/basic models of Fujitsu are/were indeed "Made in Taiwan" . Middle class and up - Western Germany. A good example would be Celsius or Esprimo. Let's search for any picture of their motherboards from various years and zoom to see they're not asian. D2317-A1 (2005-06 or so) zoom the area near the barcode. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/CfMAAOSwYEJgfnRo/s-l1600.jpg You can also search for some oldies : D2584 (mobo from FUJITSU SIEMENS Esprimo), D2587, D3011 (FUJITSU SIEMENS from 2010) or even the newer ones for Kaby Lake still says Europe (the area near the CPU). model Nr. D3441-S2 https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/oBoAAOSwxK5izaeR/s-l1600.jpg Now what did they mean by "Europe" ? Italy ? France ? Holland ? One could only guess. I see the French Thomson components on these boards, Philips and other major European manufacturers. And yes, I did look at their internals, opened up lots of their notebooks and monitors. For example, 22 inches and up have Philips or Fujitsu guts, again, not cheap. Cheaper ones usually have LG(Philips) inside of them, LG doesn't have any designs/LCDs of their own, it's all made by Philips and is owned by Philips since 1999-2000. LG-Philips LCD is the world's second (now 1st?) largest maker of ... liquid-crystal displays used for flat screens ... https://www.nytimes.com/2000/11/28/business/lg-of-korea-and-philips-set-screen-making-venture.html Now you all can do whatever you want with your choice of goods, while I continue to support Germany financially.
  5. I have to disagree. Plenty of computers are still produced in Western Germany. Take me as example, I don't have any asian-made mobos, I don't even have asian adapters. Even my HDMI cables are Philips made in Belgium . Gold plated with armoured coating and protection from being chewed up. I don't know about your local shops, but Ebay and Amazon are definitely communists, some might not like it. I'm typing this from a Fujitsu Siemens, Made in Germany and looking at a German Fujitsu monitor. Even the mouse and my KB are Siemens. OT. I'm a bit tired of computers. I'm currently building a very realistic layout of a bombed German city from Pola items (made in W. Germany). I'm trying to reproduce the terrible sufferings of poor Germans. All figures are ready made by Preiser. EDIT: Forgot to say, I'll also have various SDKFZ, made by the Austrian Roco and hand-painted by our local pro-painter.
  6. As an example, I couldn't upgrade an eleven years HP tower to a new GTX780, until I ordered a Dell branded OEM version of GTX780, weird, right ? Dell worked in HP ! Could be they have some sort of a colab, I dunno. EDIT: Dell still could be a good option, if the price is right, esp. with discounts,
  7. Maybe, but Dell tends to lock the hell out of their BIOS, so his upgrade path (a new GPU, for example) could be blocked forever. Also, Dell tends to use cheap (low power) PSUs - so again, future upgrades are in question. The same could be said about HP. locked BIOS, small PSU, etc.
  8. Of course it doesn't guarantee . But commuinists or not, the store staff is disciplined and works quite well under the wise German guidance . I wonder if maybe @AstroSkipper knows more about the store and the real owner. Thanks for the information about DeLock, I never paid that much attention, now I know. What I noticed - their prices went UP, when the assembly line moved to Taiwan ! And yes, you're right ! They look similar. But that doesn't guarantee both of them aren't a forgery/knock-off. That's why I prefer to shop at the German www.computeruniverse.net/
  9. The described PC is 100% of the Vista era. It's more like 16 years old. Even the ancient Quad Q9650 beats the hell out of that AMD Effective Speed of Quad at stock is 2% faster . Now imagine if Quad is overclocked ! https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core2-Quad-Q9650-vs-AMD-A8-6600K-APU/m1706vsm3344 Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9650 Launch Date 2008 ! https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/products/sku/35428/intel-core2-quad-processor-q9650-12m-cache-3-00-ghz-1333-mhz-fsb/specifications.html I'm not surprised, AMD is always several years behind , at least , if not a decade behind. GTX 760 2GB is a rebranded version of the old and reduced version of GTX 670 2GB, GTX 670 2GB is 6% faster . It's not even the normal GTX680 4gb version ! https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-760-vs-Nvidia-GTX-670/2159vs2181 DDR3 is also Vista - Release date: 2007 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM So yeah, upgrade ASAP.
  10. 1 - Thanks, will keep in mind. 2 - From what I had been taught at school/academy/university - was Dutch, even Japanese for some time and then British ! Not sure about now. [1] - Hey, but they were. Looks like not anymore, and many thanks for bringing it to my attention ! I own such IDE-SATA adapters and also many Addon-cards from Germany (they all have the famous green Siemens board). NO "Made in Taiwan" shown on them. Since you can post links to the shops , I think I also can , here's the place where I bought them and many other parts. https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/p/90745130 I honestly don't know who the owner of the shop is ! Perhaps you will help us to find out ? All I know - the store is German. All parcels arrive from Western Germany. (not DDR, or ex-DDR or whatever they called it in English).
  11. Never got any troubles with the German DeLOCK IDE->SATA Adapters. Need my German store link ? I can send it to you via messages. There also was some made in Austria, but very expensive.
  12. Not a problem also, since there's plenty of well-working IDE-SATA adapters for like 5 bucks per unit.
  13. We tend to overvalue things in life. Now, what I'm gonna say is not for those who are/were in love (if such cases still exist!, so no offence !). Would you make a backup of a woman you dated for over several years ? I think not ! And even if you did, would it have any value for you in a couple of years fast forward ? It's much easier to just go out and get a new one instead. Younger, prettier . The same is with hard disks, you'll get better ones every year ! What do you all exactly store ??? Ancient software ? Outdated drivers ? Women born in the sixties ??? I'm not saying newer is always better, I too keep my old photos, for example. BUT. I'll not get unhinged if my HDDs just freaking die, all at once. To hell with them !
  14. So why do you have a very low resolution, in that allegedly good browser ? Why these images are blurred then ? For me they aren't blurred , and I can see the links he gave.
  15. Fellas, wow ! This all could've been said in a couple of words . Just copy (periodically) your data from an old HDD to a new one. Solved ! I don't think @UCyborglives on a volcano or walking in magnetic storm parks in the evenings !
  16. @mina7601Please don't accuse a respected member like @msfntor, it's not polite. How would he know that the images are just a link to a heavy scripted java website, in his ancient 360 Explorer web browser, which is almost 30 versions below the current ??? Without you telling him first?
  17. That spammy service should have been disabled in the first place ! Always.
  18. Lubricants drying out is related to the data prevention loss. One would have to turn on the HDD once in a while, from time to time. By doing this you prevent it from being stuck.
  19. AstroSkipper, I agree with you 100% ! I'd also add simple mechanical failures due to the dried out motor bearings lubricant ! And/or dust inside (yes, dust inside of newly-made japs-made Toshiba/Hitachi) , jaclaz may just be too young to remember the DeathStar HDD from Toshiba, so let's not get too hard on him ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deskstar
  20. Define "code" . What software did you use to "see the code" ?
  21. You look in the WRONG section! Of course I know that ClientHints can be switched off, but the injected browser string still works and shown ! And yeah, Opera is also Chinese (so no surprise), not sure who is the owner of the second one now. Just scroll a bit lower or use Ctrl F and go to window.navigator EDIT : I usually run with ClientHints OFF, so I didn't even see it has yet another unique fingerprint !!! Try to disable this :
  22. I actually agree with you about the Germans, they're cool ! OK, and what will happen if you find out the devs are French ? There's nothing wrong with French developers, just sayin'. The famous VLC is French, for example. About the dangers hidden in Opera, the folks are right, you can visit my topic with my modded Opera, I wrote a script to block the china/yandex spying connections.
  23. BEWARE of that dodgy browser ! Using it will make you 100% unique ! Why ? The sneaky china fella injected a unique identifier right into the browser code ! Go here and you will see : https://browserleaks.com/javascript catsxp [object Catsxp] Everyone will know you're using his browser ! This won't happen with a normal chrome, be it googled or ungoogled. Will you find what he did and where it's located ???? Guessing no likes for me for uncovering the plot of a "good" china fella, your "saviour" of Win7 userbase. D.Draker is all that "bad" , saying "nasty" things (the truth, actually) about "poor" and "honest" developers from Asia.
  24. It's a very, very risky suggestion ! Why ? Simple, they will have no info to post then and spam the hell out of all techno-related topics with "hi, how are you ?" , "hi, I'm fine , thanks, what about you today?". "Me too", "How do you like my English", "My English is excellent because I studied it for 1086 years". Or with the "famous" crap about likes/upvotes.
  25. Now try and switch it on in your 360 explorer and it will not work ! From what I gather, all chinese browsers intentionally broke it ! How to check ? You need to trace the browser UDP connections to 1.1.1.1 (or another safe DNS) with DNSQuerySniffer. Try it.
