My Browser Builds (Part 3)
XPerceniol replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Hello, and happy new year in advance to you @Dave-H :) Have you by chance (I'd be you have, just wanted to be sure) tried the user agent tricks on both FF 52.9.1 and Serpent 52? I've been having very good luck (while it lasts, anyway) on both. On FF 52.9.1: user_pref("general.oscpu.override", "Windows NT 10.0"); user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win32; x86; rv:62.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/62.0"); On Serpent 52: user_pref("general.oscpu.override", "Windows NT 10.0"); user_pref("general.useragent.compatMode.version", "91"); user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win32; x86; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0"); I was hoping that @roytam1 may at some point let us know his intent going forward with Serpent seeing its being retired upstream (or what was). I plan to continue to use it so long as its somewhat useful. I hope Roy will continue work on it for a little while longer for us. 4 and 1/2 hours left, so when I wake up, it will be next year ;) -
I hope you feel better soon. Did you read about Biotin in my posting? Why not try to find foods that could help your eyes. Remember when I said green tea ... please don't forget also and sip slowly to heal. Also tea bags under the eyes can help sooth, but won't fix health issues; of course. I also have eye trouble and now wear special glasses to correct double vision, but I don't nee them around the house as I've just gotten so used to it. I hope you all find way to enjoy this new years eve. My party days are over and I'm sober and in bed by 10 so I'm no fun anymore ... haha! Oh the memories of being in New York in the 90's ... OMG am I getting old. Some weekends I close down the joint and hardly no sleep. Those were the days - those were the days. The world has changed so much now and things aren't the way they used to be by any stretch, so I'm glad I'm not young trying to grow up in this 'new world'. I'm happy with my plants and fake fish on my end table. This new change was hard for people and I understand that. For me, that change was different, in that, I'm a hermit and a loner and have developed social phobia pretty bad over the years and people now are simply unapproachable. I'm quite social online, but very very shy in real life. Anyways... Nuff bout me. See you next year. Take good care MSFN and this forum rocks :)

I was proud when I learned DOS (took a class) and Win 1 and 3.1 going on my old IBM laptops.

Thank you, guys ... Yeah I don't ever use "System Restore", "Automatic Updates". System Restore never worked right anyway for me. I use linux based Acronis True Image instead when my computer becomes unstable. Never use "Indexing", "Diagnostics", "Font Cache" anymore either. I do enable it when something (defrag) calls for it; otherwise its Manual. I do Defrag, is that bad? Then after I defrag, I usually use Privazer and shellbag_analyzer_cleaner and wipe the free space and sure enough there is stuff lurking in the sectors.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320222#biotin-rich-foods https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/biotin-rich-foods#8.-Broccoli I do take this suppliment, but, again, better if you can it from food(s). Water soluble .. drink water and you'll rid yourself of what you don't need. Very imprtant, actually for your eyes and brain.

I once won a thesaurus as a raffle door prize - I was lost for words. What would you all do without me ... hehe

Great! I keep DCOM DCOM Server Process Launcher to "manual" and only enable when needed, acutely. This are much faster now, indeed, and so far so good.

**quick vent** https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_organism Genetically modified organism (Fake Foods) We can create a carrot to grow like a carrot, look like a carrot, taste like carrot, smell like a carrot ... but it can be fake. Yep, that is right, we are eating fake foods with practically zero nutrients. We wonder why people are sick. We feed animals pump full of steroids to make them grow super fast and huge and kill them quickly and repeat. We eat all the ground beef from multiple cows and think this is Okay?!? Supplements do have their place and are needed when we can no longer get nutrients; especially in underdeveloped countries or those of us living under the poverty level. Food banks sometimes have expired food and pasta. I've been there, but luckily now, I can eat fairly well on tight budget. Is this whole world fake? What have we become? It it too late? **vent over**

By chance, since I'm now using Comodo, I discovered Comodo Cleaning Essentials is in fact still working on XP. I updated and I did a full scan, it restarted my computer to check for rootkits and found nothing. Hope this helps. https://www.comodo.com/business-security/network-protection/cleaning_essentials.php Scratch that ... wishful thinking I guess. That database it quite outdated, but perhaps worth keeping around still. Others tools included are good.

I've gone through my winsxs as well today and there is whole lot there from the past. I'll leave everything there until I know better. Overall things are much smoother and better now. Learning new things is hard for me, takes me 3 times as long compare others, but when I get it; I get it. I decided yesterday to follow the directions from above link. https://www.minitool.com/news/esent.html Which lead met to: C:\WINDOWS\security\logs (empty) C:\WINDOWS\security\Database (below ... look harmless, but will leave for now) C:\WINDOWS\security\templates (not sure) I find this strange the computer is keeping track because I though I wiped this computer and did fresh install in 2018?

XPerceniol replied to Humming Owl's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Wow ... thank you @Humming Owl for all that information. Oh and this is and ancient HP Deskjet 1000 J110 series LOL and I think I must have some emotional attachment to it and liked it so much I have and new one in the closet and extra ink. You think this is bad, talk about my clothing apparel ... the 1990s are calling to get their wardrobe back :) I have lots to study this week and learn without question. thanks again.- 2,340 replies

Hmmm ... I should start changing my diet. Eating crap isn't good. I don't eat fast food anymore but today's prepared food is still junk. This year I intend to pay attention to what I put into my body and try to get these nutrients naturally. Here are some very good food choices. I know its not easy and people don't have the money to eat healthy everywhere and sometimes we can only take what is available. I struggle to get by, I admit that, but, need to do what we can to improve our health and immune system. Thank you for the nudge https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/foods-high-in-vitamin-a#TOC_TITLE_HDR_3 Edit: Here are 2 other good articles. https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminA-HealthProfessional/ https://www.mountsinai.org/health-library/supplement/vitamin-a-retinol Again, please be careful with those fat soluble vitamins. They build up in the body and my interact with other medications one might be taking. This doesn't usually happen when we can get our nutrients from food sources.

Hi there ... Unless you are prepared with backups, I would be cautious when deleting or editing these telemetry dlls baked into XP. Me ... I'm just that way. You can read about it in the 360chrome threads as I see it has been discussed several times and people were wondering what this is and why it it tracking every process and logging in the registry. I'll try to find links today for you. Basically, I'm now running without it (playing games - posting - creating song files with Audacity today - enjoying videos - writing/journal) everything is great and the new firewall is ACTUALLY using less resources than running; Network Connections Service (set from automatic to manual) Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (set from automatic to manual) Windows Management Instrumentation (set from automatic to disabled because it start on manual) Both [cpf.exe and cmdagent.exe] are only using small amount in comparison. Will write more later as I'm still learning it myself

YAY!! Holy smoke this is wild, popup every time on the tray when something happens ... I'm not used to this security, the normal firewall wasn't doing anything at all. Now to learn how to actually use it this week. I have NEVER until this very day used anything other than the usless native firewall! system is a bit slower, but to be expected with more security in place, but not too bad. I'm living proof - ESENT is no longer on my system at all. Well, it is to please the registry but its an empty dll. As I said (and I tried again) the firewall will not start at all so this is proof enough for me that the M$ firewall relied on that telemetry dll. Later this week when I get things straight, I'll delete it totally and remove the reg entries and let you all know! However, Windows Windows Management Instrumentation service tried to start on manual ... yeah right; disabled now I'm very excited to say the very least! Thank you everyone very much for your help. See, this is why we are all here to help each other.

Unless this is it. seems legit.
-
Thank you! Yes, that would be very kind. I've been reading now and all the sites for that version come up a 404. Do you know if the pro version requires a license? Do I have to pay for it? Would really appreciate your PM. Sort of concerned that I have this one: Comodo Desktop Installer 1.0.1.9. I hate exe installers because I never know what else its doing. No rush, when you get around to it - I"m not in a hurry.
-
Ok. gonna give this a go this week and I'd like to rid myself of ESENT tracking and see how that goes. I'm not expecting this to be faster, in fact, it much better with no firewall at all and the XP one is useless, but... https://comodo-internet-security.en.uptodown.com/windows/download/43948 http://www.oldversion.com/windows/download/comodo-internet-security-6-0-264710 I think I'll work with Version 6 and I have 2 that are not malware from those links. I might still not run the installers and see if 7zip will unpack them and I can run portable to not start automatically. Sometimes uptown is strange. i have hae PC Tools Firewall Plus Setup 7.0.0.123; as well. Will report back with any results if I don't "chicken out'. Haha
-
Ok ... so, I'll look harder for Version 8. I can't find my old version and I see crazy links. I've downloaded two but I would never run those installers - when you have to use the dreaded green button to get it, that don't seem correct to me. I'll try 7zp and see, but hopefully I can find the right one. Thank you as I missed this thread. Take good care. EDIT: Scanned and they are malware lol ... need to keep looking, I guess.
-
Thank you ... I guess since I don't use any of those things, I didn't need it. I was surprised everything worked still without it other than the firewall. For the time being, I'll keep it, but it tracks every process in the registry in several places. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ESENT\Global] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ESENT\Process] [[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\ESENT] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Eventlog\Application\ESENT] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Eventlog\Application\ESENT] You should see everything its been tracking. Yikes..

I lovj I love silence :) Other than my own noise here, its quiet, everybody is gone somewhere.

To tell you the truth, people should just ask their doctor for a blood test to see if you are Vit D deficient. Be careful, this is fat soluble and can be toxic and build in your body. Might be better to supplement with Vit C and Vit B Complex as your body will pee out what you don't need. Also I hear turmeric is promising (I take all 3 now) and as you can see, I'm "normal" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7385774/ But, again, you need to know your levels, very easy to get PS: Sometimes with online IQ tests I do very well; other times not. I don't know, depends on how well I slept the night before. Oh ... if you get Sun (Natural Vit D) you will also have healthy melatonin levels which will improve your sleep quality. I'm not a doctor I just play one on television.

360 Extreme Explorer Modified Version

I don't know, I never used Chrome all that much before this other than Iron, I would consider myself a Chrome newbie.- 2,340 replies

Ok.. I Beat you both to it @D.Draker, actually. I'm just that way Curious George. I copied esent.dll to my desktop, but, because in the registry there are several reverences to ESENT pointing to that dll, I just simply edited the dll with notepad and turned into a empty fake esent.dll and left it there in system32 folder. I restarted the computer an the only thing was my network was missing. Further checking I noticed the Network Connections and Firewall would not start. Other than that, everything worked (DCHP started). What this tells me, its time to replace the silly native firewall someday and that spying xp tool could be removed. Also I would no longer need the vulnerable Windows Management Instrumentation which would turn this clunker into a speed daemon lol But, for now, I just put the dll back and everything is the way it was. I know that 36Chrome has nothing to do with that. The bad part of ESENT is it keeps track of every process if you seek in the registry. I'll let you guys know when/if I decided to do this as @Dixel recommended comodo a long time ago anyway to me. I've been reading this morning and it would seem Vista and 7 didn't need this but it was replaced with something else. Sorry will try to find it again and edit this when I do. https://www.fileinspect.com/fileinfo/esent-dll Above seems to explain.
