  1. I did not miss your point and yes it is the programmers that make what the applications are. But I think your missing what Gates is proclaiming... Gates is proclaiming that he had created the PC market and what they are today. This is a radical statement. Gates has been a tool in the PC market, UNIX has been in development for years, if you had not known, without the influence of Windows. Millions of people were enjoying PC's before Windows ever existed. Unix based systems were around. Yet it is a fact that Windows has made it a bit easier and inflated the use of Computers, but the inflation of computer usage does not equate to the termonology of creation.Let's put this in theory, say you created a balloon; This ballon was heavy and dull looking but had done it's purpose. So now after several years millions own it and you have received comments that it is clunky and bulky and slow, so you try to develop something more unique faster; however a contention has arisen and creates a balloon less clunky, faster, and 'eye appealing' (but also has holes), yet has a price tag to follow. Now that this person has made a larger margin profit then you and has sold more balloons now boasts that he created the balloon for all its worth.. Yet somewhere in the picture you the designer and the creator is left behind and do not receive the credit for that true worth, but think about it, would you really want all that credit in the first place and just sit back and enjoy the ride?!?! You get my point? Gates does not deserve any respect or credit for the creation of the Internet or Personal Computer's or the deployment of PC's into homes. This was completed over 50 years ago but since it's birth consumers have developed and inflated the usage since then. The only creators are the users. The tools are those who design and implement it. Oh no not at all. I like to hear others opinions. Do you think Gates think fair? Nope... it's business baby!
  2. Personally, I would refuse to even visit him even though I do admire 'some' of his works, but if I were at his residence or in his presence and if he proclaimed he created the PC industry I would outright call him a arrogant fool and set him in his place (it would not be the first or last time I have said this to him). I am not a cynic nor am I hypocritical. I would not go out and boast radical statements as "I created the internet or I created the PC", true statements that would get him the respect as; "I helped the growth of the Internet in many ways and I helped with the deployment of PC's into everyday life.", not boasting that he had created something that has been around for ages to come. I just stated he was a TOOL in the evolution of what PC's are today. Yes he played a substantial role as I noted. So please inform me what I am not admitting. He has not gained the respect he 'should' have Yet when he attempts to pull off stunts as copyright infringments and state they are his, he is a thief and hypocritical. Gates does not deserve the acknowledgement or the respect one should receive for the creation of anything BUT Windows.
  3. http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/story?id=506354&page=1 Utter bulls***. Gate's by no means created the PC industry. Microsoft (Gates) was only a TOOL in the success of what PC's are today. PC's have been around for over 50 years, but by different termonology. If the supercomputer or UNIX had never been in existence Gates would never have conceived of this Idea called Windows. Before you start to rant here folks... Xerox copier started the entire PC industry, which Gates maliciously acquired. Regardless, with or without Gates' intervention the PC industry would have flurished as it is today. Gates was just to TOOL to expedite its deployment. UNIX was the first stable operating platform and still is the most dominant, most secure, most reliable, most intelligent, most advanced Operating Platform on the market today. MOST of all your technology that you interact with operates on UNIX (i.e. Cell phones, Calculators, Scientific calculators, Servers, PDA's (some), Cars, Buses, Satillites, Airplanes, Space shuttles, Microwave dishes, Cable settop boxes, Personal Computers, Super Computers, Servers, routers, switches, hubs, Cable modems, Printers, Copiers, Xerox machines) you name it, the list goes on and on. So, What does M$ run on, you may ask, Some PDA's, Some Personal Computers, Servers, not very many out there, is there!? By no means Gates created the PC industry. However, Gate's 'can' claim he is the Ferrari of BMW over the UNIX platform.. it looks pretty, cost more has a lot of bells and whistles included with it, BUT it will not last as long. Here's another hypocritical exposition from Gate's. http://management.silicon.com/government/0...39127702,00.htm Fancy he has it in his head that he owns everything he thinks about. I remember when he also attempted to steal Palm, yet turned around and said it's just a "generic name". So in theory, Gates owns MSFN, The United States, Japan, Russia, China, Europe, Mars, Pluto, Venus, Uranuss!, The entire galaxtical solar system.. you get my point. This is what true arrogance is. He can sprout wings too... if you didnt notice Open Topic If you think he is correct please post, I want to hear what you have to say. I would like this to be an open debate. It would be nice to hear views from others for or against. Rant all you want but please keep the information factual and back your statements.
  4. Best utilities in the world.... Textpad can compare huge files. http://www.textpad.com/products/index.html
  5. ServerOS, eh? http://www.shavlik.com/ Free home version and key included upon registration Yup.
  6. XP does not recognize SATA raid features on most motherboards, since XP needs 3rd party drivers to point to these devices. Even though you may have installed an OS on a drive and the device drivers does not guarantee that it will boot. Most occurances of 'NTDLR is missing' with 3rd party controllers is that the specific device is not enabled in the bios. Are you sure you installed the OS on the appropriate drive? I use the same 3112r (silicon image). Setup raid to either strip(0) or mirror (1) Raid0 (strip) Will combine the two drives but you will only see about 70-80% of your physical drive space. Raid1 (mirror) will combine the two drives, copies the image off primary disk (redundent setup), you will be utilizing around 70-80% of the 400gb but the OS will only notice 200gb.
  7. So assigning static IP's will not work. It should be working, unless a minor adjustment needs to be made. I will reinstall VPC again (i use VMWare) to see if I can replicate your issue. Do you have WindowsXP Firewall enabled on both machines, if so, has VPC been made an ecception to communicate between both the client/host PC's. If there is a 3rd party firewall installed make sure it is disabled or create an advanced connection rule between the client/host PC's. Try disabling all securtiy on the PC's and remove your network cable when you do this. 1. Bridged connection, VPC will acquire an IP address (DHCP) from the host PC. 2. Shared connection, VPC will utilize the host netcard to acquire an IP address (DHCP) from the gateway (either your router or cable/dsl modem. To verify if you have a shared or bridged connection access your cmd line and enter 'ipconfig /all' verify that your IP's are unique and the mask is the same (i.e. 255.255.255.128).
  8. Works fine here.. try clearing out your cache or disable your pop-up blocker.
  9. it's late.. posted the same thing twice.
  10. Really, where did I openly admit not using Opera? I believe I have mentioned we have tested this in a corporate environment & I personally own a copy myself. Do you read anything people post or just skim... Glad you caught that. Yes, Opera runs on a seperate engine besides Mozilla/Firefox(gecko) and IE. There is no doubt about that. The issue is compatibility, interoperability (, blame Gate's), and stability. I will openly admit that Opera 8b is a work in progress and has overcome leaps and bounds from it's recent deployments. That's what you get with an OpenSource application. Different users have their interpretation of what an application should contain. It's the one of the advantageous of OpenSource is to share your version. No one is dispossessioned you to install the application (plugin), it's just a feature that is available to users whom beleive it would help them. Also a lot of hogwash out there... good ideas but useless. However, the best part of OpenSource.
  11. Thanks for the correction, didnt notice I had placed IE in there. Pure habit I guess. You knew what I was talking about though. Psst.. just a secret.. dont download cracks or pirated software. May help with future headaches
  12. Not going to start a all out war here it's off topic and unnecessary, but to close it up.It cost me $15/per 100 licenses. Someday Opera will get there act together for the corporate environment, but for now it's IE & Firefox. And branding... if your in a corporate environment you have a perpetual license which allows you to do any type of branding of the browser (application). Swap out Opera for Firefox and you have a green light. I also find it interesting you admire Opera so much. Seem's you do not realize Firefox and Opera are both built upon the same engine.
  13. Gave it more thought. Download filemon.exe from Sysinternals.com After you run filemon.exe it will show you what resources explorer is accessing and causing it to use excessive resources. If explorer is using the suggested amount of resources, as you noted, filemon.exe will display those results (most of the time). More then likely explorer is attempting to access a shortcut or program that you had deleted but the registry does not see that it has been removed and see's it as a valid entry. Run a regcleaner to remove invalid registry keys.
  14. did you run them in safe mode? try your norton boot disk before windows boots.
  15. lol, how the US justice system works.
  16. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ more or less you have a virus.
  17. Interesting.. what's the bear do when you get gmail?
  18. Impressive. How did you get the "Finder" etc. buttons on the toolbar, battery, volume icon, flag, etc.? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Umm.. thats a real mac

  20. This wouldn't be such a bad idea. However, there would be an issue as someone will need to monitor the server at all times for that batch file. Hes looking for something that would dynamically enter inself into an DB when the user logs on/off the PC. However, you could write something for the ODBC driver.

I want to get other's intellectual views on his ignorance of the termonology he is using, when in fact his own software does not interoperate with his own creation. But you have your opinion and I respect that, but I would not respect it if you nothing about what linux or *nix even has to offer. --- Moving forward: Gate's doesnt stand behind 'Interoperability', he should be looking at his own software before accusing the Open Source nix community. Linux has proven itself for interoperability for 'YEARS'. Gates just digs a hole deeper and deeper whenever he opens his mouth. In fact, as I mentioned before, Gates has no knowledge what interoperability means, he can not even stand behind it himself, its a proven track record. It is one reason Open Source exists... 'interoperability'! With *nix you have every right to compile the kernal and customize the software to integrate. Windows you have neither of these options. Widows does not follow standards, and expect other companies to follow them. Windows (Gates) needs to learn how to work with the Open Source community and not fight against the community, he has every right to dig in and share. However, Gates is intimidated by linux, he knows it's a better platform. Gate's should look this up as well as his cohorts Open Source (defined) directly from a well known resource: <philosophy, legal> A method and philosophy for software licensing and distribution designed to encourage use and improvement of software written by volunteers by ensuring that anyone can copy the source code and modify it freely. The term "open source" is now more widely used than the earlier term "free software" (promoted by the Free Software Foundation) but has broadly the same meaning - free of distribution restrictions, not necessarily free of charge. There are various open source licenses available. Programmers can choose an appropriate license to use when distributing their programs. Interoperability n : (computer science) the ability to exchange and use information (usually in a large heterogeneous network made up of several local area networks) Gates is wrong. Do your homework boys he has fooled (lemmings). Don't get me wrong there are 'some' things Windows can do better then Linux and vise versa, and between the lines Apple. However Linux is better at security and serving (it's not my opinion) its a Fact. However, Windows was not made for interoperability, the Linux community had to design software just so that it 'could' interoperate with Windows software. Gates is all about Monopolizing. I will quote a gentleman that could not state interoperability any better; oh yea.. how does this even fit into funny farm? besides Gates' factor of interoperability.

Old news. But thought I would share it. http://management.silicon.com/itpro/0,3902...39127619,00.htm Billy may be able to fool some, but when it comes to intelligence, people choose Linux(interoperability) over Windows(doesnt even work with its own products). What Billy states reminds me of...
  23. I agree. But it's just a fancy term that consolidates 22 agencies.
  24. Yah those are also nice. They also have the best security! You can install Linux Too... IBM Thinkpad has a "Let me build it:" feature... cool Don't have any recomendations at the time though.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> IBM has a Large range of ThinkPads... Personally I would select any one of there product lines. It's not only my personal opinion but several thousand other professionals recommend Thinkpads. But it all depends on what you want to do with it. But, I use: ThinkPad X40 / Mode 2382ECU (not cheap, but best **** notebook on the market for a netadmin) Support is professional and courteous, if something goes wrong. Warrenties are always fulfilled and they go out the extra mile just to satisfy 1 customer. Just got to be extra nice and they treat you the same I always evangelize, You get what you pay for.
