  1. Is that your only excuse for not liking Firefox... Point out a perfect example that Firefox disables problems and does not "Fix"? You bet it is.. AND it's open source... meaning I could go into and change whatever settings I wish and recompile it to my corporate environmet (which we have). You dont get that for every browser. Hmm.. so "only" Firefox has plugins and extension? Correct me if I am wrong BUT Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera all have these. It just so happens that Internet Explorer and Firefox(Mozilla) have an insane amount since they have been marketed longer. Your simple resolution to the Plugin/Extension war... "Don't use them if you do not need or like them!". Your right here... Firefox is not a simple Deployment product, it was not made for "Large Scale Corporate Environment's" and I doubt it will be anytime soon. The best thing about Firefox is that it is Open Source, it's "bare-boned", also if a Security threat is found everyone is aware of it within the community and fixed, nothing is hidden from the general public, it's all open for users to see "EXACTLY" what pre-emptive steps were taken to resolve the conflict. Just check the bug database.. it goes on since the Mozilla core has been active. Another positive point is that Firefox is not inundated with individuals searching for exploits as IE is, but will soon be. Firefox is just not a free software it's dependent on the Open source community, but a lot of it's volunteers that do not have a paying ful'time job. Some of these volunteers spend there time 'unpaid, mind you' to provide the Internet Generation and themselves a better browser that is secure and ease of use, even some volunteers have dedicated there life work to mozilla and depend on donations to keep them going 'it's not much but puts food on the table and pays the electric bill'. But that's a differnt subject and won't get too in depth... Moving forward, Opera does have its Pro's and Con's but a significant problem that has been sticking out like a sore thumb for 'years', they do not follow standards. A simple explaination for everyone to understand; is CTRL+B which by any standard brings up your bookmarks.. opera wants you to use PF4.. But in many cases if you do not like this you can change it in the ini. I can list many more issues regarding Opera.. it's an endless list. However, having an ini file available to change at free will is a big plus but still does not change the fact. Another is it's engine's ability to display plain HTML and Java source. It's there software, but to be able to come on top they need to follow the "Standards" that are in place today, not change them. However, Internet Explorer is the 'most secure' browser (when properly configured) available when your under a Windows environment.
  2. Great! Now my opera8 which actually supported Gmail is being told that it doesn't and is sent to the basic UI. Hate it? no problem, add this argument to the site, and login - you're back to the old JS interface. http://gmail.google.com/gmail?nocheckbrowser <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well.. well.. *cough* use Firefox or any other opera does not follow standards.
  3. Just have to wait and see. But Firefix 2.0 is for me... Also, I do not use IE for updates, best software to use to update is Shavlik.
  4. Your right, It goes back even further. Nothing really new... I lead myself to believe that the individual that written the article had finally woke up, but too late; or they have been lived in a cave all there life and suddenly seen this on AOL, concluding the world is ending. It's a bit childish to see this being used now, it was a great tool back in the day to encrypt messages. codename: BOFH
  5. Hmm... can i compete with that? D00D 7H1z LeW7 R0CX. 81Ll 9A732 Cr3A73D 17 m$ 0wN2 j00
  6. You can ask but be cautious what you ask. Torrent gotten a bad rap after being exploited by the pirateing idustry. Several legitament companies still use it as a form of downloading large files.
  7. Point of story.. Thinking Outside the Box!
  8. @Bâshrat the Sneaky, Icons are bluecurve (iconpackager) but will be integrating them into the shell sometime (who know's when that will be ). Half a** taskbar... only active tasks showing. It's explorer modified. I'll be sure to post the vs when I have full perms, maybe if I just buy it outright other vs': GANT http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/8394092/ http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/5154881/ Bluecurve http://www.deviantart.com/view/5103882/ (unfortuneately, this was pulled.) 9. To say the least ntoskrnl.exe has the bootsetup and yes you can edit it, but be forewarned if done incorrectly your system will not boot.
  10. Everything works on a frequency you can not run anything without them. Pagers, cell phones can all send text messages. You can also use bluetooth devies or pda's
  11. Thanks for the update DP, however I am trying to get it catagorized along with other compression functions. I use both WinZip, SecureZip, and WinRAR. 7zip is so ungodly slow extracting files or compressing in general. However, I like LZMA compression, it will be better in the months to come though

  13. On what conditions? Wireless hinges on the availablility to roam a network with laptops, Portable Data Terminal (aka Scanning Mobile Computer). Wireless is just an add-on to enhance the range of technology that had limited operation. Land line CPE is the most secure and reliable form of data transmission. If you have a laptop or several computers in alternate locations and have 1 CPE/AP in your household or business then, yes, you may benefit from a wireless solution, but ONLY if you needed a roaming AP. However, if you have a couple computers located within the same room it's not recommended. Dont get over hyped on wireless because of sales & marketing. They are just ployed to get you to purchase there products. a subjective question. Who's your ISP do you have DSL or Cable? 30ms is normal for an RT, even considering that it is google. Wireless will not change your response time to connect to the CPE or DNS servers in fact it may slow it down. The main reason's you could be seeing a slow response or connection from your ISP or system could be a multitude of issues. 1. CPE is showing a incorrect Rx/Tx and needs correction. 2. Bad media connection(s) or Physical. (e.g. ethernet cables, power cables, coax cables, router, CPE, network card and/or (drivers)), but not limited to. 3. Amount of PC's on your segment or home LAN being used at the time of the issue. 4. PC infected with a virus(s). Also, you need to take into consideration network collisions. Even though you may be able to connect to google.com does not guarantee you will connect to yahoo.com and 'NO' ISP can guarantee that for you. Your ISP, or any ISP, rely upon the web of networks to cohesively manage themselves, which allows you as the consumer to browse the net. To make things short. There could also be a number of other possibilites, your ISP could be in flux (upgraded firmware to a router & crashed) happens all the time. This could cause significant downtime or a drag in network performance. Sometimes this may bottleneck networks but larger networks can compensate for this type of problem. I created a small batch file, a couple years ago, that will check connectivity. Open it in notepad, you will need to change a few things between "double quotes". Once your finished rename testbat.txt to testbat.bat or whatever you like but the file extension needs to be changed to --> .bat <-- to run correctly. Once it has completed (5-10min) it will save the output format to c:\ as results.txt Edit: Copy and paste this into a new text document if you do not want to download a file. Once you have edited the commented options save the file as ping.bat You can run this file on a daily basis when you experience the problems and compare the files between the days. You should rename the file corresponding to it's date. This will help you determine if its your ISP or general network conjestion. @ECHO OFF ECHO written by bc ECHO : Troubleshooting done: >> c:\results.txt ECHO : ECHO : ECHO : ECHO !!!! PLEASE WAIT !!!! 14. Things You Will Need *Three medium or large paper cups *Empty soup-type cans (optional) *25 feet and 10 feet of heavy thread that won't stretch *Three toothpicks *Sewing needle with a very large eye Do This *Thread the needle with the 25-foot length of heavy thread. *Carefully pierce the center of the bottom of one of the paper cups with the needle. *Remove the needle from the thread. *Tie a knot around a toothpick on the inside of the cup. (The toothpick may have to be broken to fit in the bottom of the cup.) This will prevent the thread from pulling out of the bottom of the cup. *Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the other paper cup with the other end of the thread. *To use your paper-cup telephone, two people will have to pick up the cups and carefully walk away from each other until the line is slightly stretched tight. Do not pull the thread so tight that it pulls from the cups. Do not let the thread touch any ot *One person should place their cup directly against one ear and cover the other ear with the other hand. The second person should speak into their cup. Each person should try being the sender and receiver of the messages. Instead of speaking into he cup you could tap or scratch (morris code). :scratchhead: This would be a breakthrough in technology.
  15. I assume your asking if thats secure shell... yes it is or the shortcut to 'cmd line' thats DOS 6.22 localized I love RH & Unix environments, but sometimes it's nearly impossible get away from the Window's 'client' base.
  16. 17. Thats really irresponsible. Sad to say that it is easy for anyone to start there own webhosting business with a T1 or access to a datacenter. It's good to believe in the theory; "You get what you pay for".
  18. I agree that 'some', not all, Cell phones and PDA's are now running some version of Windows Mobile. With today's technology it run's a little faster. Yet, it is UNIX that made what Cell phones are today, not Windows. Yet, you also forget that the satillight that operates and sends that signal to your friends phone is operated by UNIX. Oh, really?! I would really want to see this report. What companies where involved, how many companies really took the survey. How many companies have Microsoft employed employee's that would state that *cough* windows is better. In some points it is, but as in security, it is lacking.Take AS/400's for example, it is virtually imposible for a virus to be written for the Platform. Everything is dependent on a series of objects, unlike Windows which relies upon a string of commands. Antitrust laws were not as complex back then. Also, comparing a vehicle to the creation of the PC industry is like comparing apples to oranges. Wow, Xerox created a version of Windows? What version what it? Xerox created a platform that would operate its print servers. By no means were they developing a system that would run on a Home computer. It's a fact that when they failed they would toss the code away left on these machines and start over from scratch. Sorry, but I do not believe half of the fictional information contained in that video, it was all media hype, when I first watched it I laughed my a** off. Also by that statement alone your stating that I am a fan of Michael Moore. Please refrain from comments like this, what gets your age group into trouble. I know the history of the PC industry (i.e. Hardware, Software) since my 20+ years being employed with IBM, HP and Microsoft. No, I am not boasting my employment history I am just letting you know where I started my successful entrepreneurism. Linux and Apple don't call themselves PC's? So, why are they even on the Personal Computer market or even have millions of subscribers and used in households? It's because they are the competition of Windows, they are in the PC market. I see Gate's has already brainwashed you.Mac's are expensive, and Apples goal is "Quality". Gates states Apple is going to fade out.. I hardly doubt that and Apple has a long lifespan ahead of them. If we did not have the great effort Steve Jobs has brought forth to the PC industry we would not have the great DVD quality videos we see today, we probably be still sitting in the BETA catridge era. Look it up if you dont know what a BETA cartidge is ( twice the size of a VHS tape). Television & recording studios still use BETA cartidges since they last longer and display a better image quality. Digital Photography and Color Engineering is all MOSTLY done by Mac's. Windows is able to do this, but it is unable to pick up the fine flaws, Most of all your Halmark cards are designed off of Mac's and printed via Xerox production copiers running Macintosh, UNIX, and or Xerox print servers. So, without; Intel, AMD, ARM, 3M, HP, Apple, Xerox, Compaq, IBM, SUN, Solaris, Western Digital, Seagate, Fujitsu, Micron, Samsung, Sony, Pioneer, Mitsubishi, InterNIC, Soltech, Asus, APC (most common vendors today and dominent) and so many more to list. Microsoft single handedly created what the PC market is today!? Sure, why wouldnt there be. Microsoft had only inflated technology, but did not create it. I challenge you to read up on the history of the Hardware and Software Industry. HP, IBM & Compaq, Intel, AMD have made what the PC industry is today along side UNIX/Sun, OS/2, Windows, Linux and Apple to name the dominent vendors out there today. How can people conceive that one identity (namely Microsoft) created the PC industry as it is today? You can't!
  19. It all depends on how long you will be using this particular system, if your that type of person that wants to upgrade and sit on it for 5yrs or upgrades every year or every other. OCZ, Munshkin, Samsung and Micron are the best to buy on the market. Have you considered sound, besides onboard hardware?
  20. Are you on a budget? Depends on what your looking for. SATA does operate faster and you do see a slight performance boost. But if you were to go SATA you would want to go towards the SCSI lineup 10k or 15k rpm... WDRaptors do not run as hot as many say they do. I have 4x76GB and they all run between 24-28centigrade and thats stacked on top of each other.
  21. Call them. They will send you a recovery CD. You may have gotten a better response in Hardware hangout.
  22. Your reading it wrong; respect or credit "for the creation". Microsoft (Gates) does deserve the respect of many for the deployment of Microsoft and has helped the PC industry tremendously, but what is Microsoft. Yet has broken 'several' anti-trust laws along the way. True to a point. However, UNIX and OS/2 (I neglected to mention in previous posts) have been there longer than Windows has. OS/2 failed the market as IBM did not promote it's software as well as Windows has done. Nor did IBM / Unix attempt to break anti-trust laws. But are we forgetting that fact that Microsoft "borrowed" OS/2's look and feal during the Windows 95 era and now. An example of what functionalities were taken for the use of Windows; Each icon was called an “object”, objects having a right click “context menu”, objects having a properties & settings dialog, properties dialog using a tabbed interface for accessing different “pages”, managing system functions (being done in a notebook like interface, like Display Properties), moveing from a text based INI structure to a “registry” (a binary INI structure), cut/paste functions, shortcuts, Explorer, Multithreading, Multitasking, Dynamic linking (DLLs), Interprocess communication (IPC), and so on. Microsoft was then claimed to break anti-trust laws (and well before then and today as well). Windows was built off reference to OS/2 and it seems generations are forgetting this and now state they were Windows conceived. UNIX, OS/2 and AS/400 have made industries flurish. As far as the home PC industry they helped with it's creation of what it is today. No one identity can claim it's creation or become the creator; Gates is claiming. Some old articles; consume the knowledge. Hmm that looks similar to Windows95.. BUT Windows created it's look and feel *cough* *http://pages.prodigy.net/michaln/history/ I find it interesting that mostly everything Windows based is derivited from OS/2 and UNIX.
